Started down the road with four teenage boys (13-15) headed to Oklahoma state park Burns Run West. Popped a movie the dvd player and "I KID YOU NOT" about ten minutes or so into the movie I was asked to turn it off! I turned it off and there was SILENCE in the motor home the entire hour and ten minute ride. There was the occassional "wow" but silence. It was getting late so I stopped to get the boys something quick to eat. This way they would not have been so hungry once we arrived and set up. THEY ASKED IF THEY CAN EAT IN THE MOTOR HOME WHILE RIDING! And again, there was silence! Two of the boys were brothers and neither had ever gone camping before. I over heard one of them say to the other, "....the next time we come I gonna bring mommy's nice camera...." Who said they would be coming again?! The boys set up two tents late Friday evening. I didn't hear a peep out of them until late Sunday. And I KID YOU NOT....these teenage boys said they want to go every weekend and they are gonna tell the other boys (in the neighborhood). Once we had gotten back home I saw one of the boys sitting in his backyard just daydreaming. These are the same boys I've seen spend hours playing video games!

Yeah, I have a 12 year old niece that now wants me to drive from TX to GA to take her and her friends camping - twice in one year from the kid who said she would never ever go camping!!!

here in Canada we might have assumed they had "smoked a bowl"....
funny thing about todays kids, I teach hunter safety and firearms safety courses, I take otherwise "bad" kids out hunting often and the changes just one visit to the bush can bring out in a young mind are stunning.

When our kids hit mid-teens, we told them it was okay to bring electronics (games, dvd players, etc). After years of "NO electronics" when we camped, I figured if having electronics would keep them camping with us, I'd rather have that than nothing. Well, my son asked if we could keep the "NO electronics" rule, as he wanted to keep camping with us and having electronics in the camper just seemed wrong. My daughter, being a book worm, was fine also.
My family is VERY electronic when home (4 computers, internet, games, etc), but when we get to a campground that is all forgotten.
Great post rookie_rv, and I'm glad you all had a good time!

Our grandkids have been going with us since they were little. Not often but each time they love it. They look out the window and watch the scenery and ask questions. They nap on the sofa. They do take their electronics in case it rains but they would rather play card and board games. Last summer we took our 17 year old grandson on what we thought would be our last trip with him. We stopped in Savannah GA, Charlotte NC, Gettysburg PA, New York City and Niagara Falls. Great trip! Our grandson said "Grandpa, when you get too old to drive the RV, I'll drive it for you!" LOL.
