Hello, my parents have a 2007 southwind. They just bought a new 2012 honda CRV. The delta difference requires a 14+ inch drop. This seems like a large drop as compared to my adventurer which only has a 4 inch drop max to my jeep (jeep sits higher than CRV of course). What are your drop lengths and do you find any problems with ground clearance, braking, etc...btw, they installed the blue ox receiver and the readybrute/brake arms...Thanks much...

Are you sure that was measured correctly? That seems WAY long for any RV setup....

That truck has a 14" drop hitch, and I just don't see your parent's RV frame height being that far away from the CRV...

EDIT: OK, never mind...I just looked up pictures of the RV, and HOLY CHEESE AND CRACKERS! That is a heck of an upswing in the rear of that thing (and looking at other threads, it appears that it isn't unique to the Southwinds..guess I just never paid much attention to what I had no chance of affording, lol).

In this thread, someone mentioned a different kind of tow bar from Blue OX to accomodate it - http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/25566764.cfm

Maybe it is the weird angle, but it looks like the motorhome end of the tow bar is lower than the CRV end of the tow bar.

Make sure you are using one of the proper drop receivers for towing a car. Roadmaster, Blue Ox, or NightShift Auto.

Kinda looks that way...I have just seen pics so not sure if its the angle or not...the whole setup was done by RG and Sons (authorized NightShift Auto retailer)in Arizona so I hope they did it correctly... Im pretty sure they made the drop hitch...

Roadmaster wants the tow bar to be no more than +/- 3 inches from level at the hitch, when connected to the toad. I assume the ReadyBrute towbar has a similar requirement. If the drop receiver meets that requirement then you're good to go.

My Bounder's hitch receiver is 24 inches off the ground, and the hitch pins on my HHR are 13.5 inches off the ground, so I had to use an 8 inch drop receiver from Blue Ox to get within the +/- 4 inches that Blue Ox recommends for their tow bar.

Just had mine installed today and it uses a 4" drop hitch. Pretty level with that one.

Similar situation with Bounder but Roadmaster hitch attachment points 2.5" higher than Blue Ox so I use a 6" drop for my Honda Fit to get to 3". Good luck.
