Dealer told me to keep mine locked. Mine has the rear view camera in it too. Very expensive to replace.

They steal them mostly because they are worth a lot of money. Probably a few highs.

what type of hose clamp will save your tailgate? and where do you put it?
wouldn't it only take a minute and a screw driver to remove it?

I tend to agree that they are stolen by junkie, who will sell them on Craigslist or someplace else, then get a quick $100 for it. The owner might end up paying $4,600 to have it replaced, repainted to match the truck, and then also spend $54 on a good tailgate lock.

Because they are expensive like everything else on a quality tow vehicle

Easy to steal, expensive and easy to peddle.

You place the hose clamp on the lower right pivot point and face the screw downwards . Most of the thieves know all they have to do is open the tailgate about 6 inches or so and it slides up and off with no effort in seconds. How many will crawl under the bumper to unscrew the clamp, or have both a philips/flat screwdriver in their possession?

Another item they are stealing - catalytic converters. They crawl under cars and trucks and cut them off.
