I'm planning on replacing the factory hitch on my 2005 chevy 2500hd after reading of cracks and failures. The problem is, I'm not going to be dealing directly with a dealer, thus I'm not sure if one would be better for me than the other. My wife can get these "at dealer cost", but does not directly work with the pickup truck market.

Truck: 2005 Silverado 2500hd cc/sb (6.0 gas)-Factory bumper.

Hitches: Curt 15108 vs. Curt 15521 vs. 15211

All supposedly fit my truck. All are rated over my max towing.

So, other than the increased rating of the 15521, What is the difference? Fitment issues? Preferences?

Since some may ask, current trailer is a Stealth ss2216 toy hauler. Max trailer weight of 7500lbs or so.

Thanks

Might help if you give us links to the info for each hitch you're considering. Likely, none of us are familiar enough with Curt's part numbers to be able to tell you anything about those hitches just based on a list of part numbers. I'm sure I could likely go look up those numbers and find something out, but I'm not that interested in doing the research for you. Make it easy for us to help you....

Curt 15108

Curt 15521

Curt 15211

The 15108 & 15211 are both rated for 12,000#/1200 tongue

The 15521 is rated for 15,000#/1500 tongue.....but weighs the less??

Hi,

Some hitches are wider or taller than others. This might accommodate a spare tire mount near the frame mounts that the hitch also uses, or some other reason to adjust the hitch shape to accommodate a dual exhaust or something similar.

I would be looking at the amount of "Drop" that the receiver is from the bolts on the truck frame.

If the truck had been raised for larger tires or is 4 wheel drive, then a hitch with a lower receiver would be nice, and if the truck is lowered (popular thing with people who owns cars that don't carry much, and have to crawl over a speed bump) then the higher hitch receiver location in relation to the frame would be nice.

Also there might be a difference in how far from the mounting point to the hitch ends, or how many bolts are on the frame, yet only a drawing of the hitch will answer most of these questions.

15521 - it bolts on with 6 bolts, not the 4 bolts that would be a weaker design when using a weight distribution system. Pick that one!

I have the 15521 and it is great! The tube is hidden behind the bumper and all that is seen is the "receiver" itself.

I have been very happy with mine. It is extremely well built and I got it installed in less than an hour.

Go with the 15521, you will not be disappointed.

So it's(15521) in a similar position as the stock one? As long as it's close I guess that would be the one. Just wasn't sure what it meant by concealed. I don't want the receiver behind the license plate like a lowrider.

15108 and 15211 appear to have the same hitch positioning, to me. I believe either of these will be the closest to the position of the stock hitch, since they bolt to the bumper like the stock hitch does.

I like the much larger size cross tube of 15108 and 15211. That is a stronger design than the much smaller cross tube of 15521.

The side plate designs of 15521 and 15108 appear to be stronger than 15211. I would take 15211 out of the running.

For me, it would be a choice between 15108 and 15521.

Really, I would like to see the side plates of 15521 combined with the cross tube of 15108. That would incorporate the strongest features of both designs.

Yes similar position.. right under the bumper. The hitch crosstube is hidden.
