Sorry, you are wrong about this. The 2012 CRV is still towable 4 down.
If there is ever a doubt, you should check the chapter in the manual labeled "Recreational Towing or Motorhome Towing". The CRV requires that you pull a fuse (or use a fuse switch). Depending on the brake system chosen, you may want to add a charge line from the motorhome to the battery.
Well, I spoke too soon. I had stated earlier that we haven't had a dead battery while towing our 2012 CRV. We had our first longer trip yesterday (7 hrs.) and guess what...a dead battery. I'm a little bummed in that our manual says nothing about a fuse or a time frame for towing. If I hadn't read about the fuse on these forums, I'd be totally clueless. We stopped for lunch at about the 4 hr. mark. I wonder if starting it at intervals when we stop to eat would prevent this? Of course we'd have to go through the towing procedure again, but that's not
a problem.

Pull out your manual and look for the Motorhome towing section. That section will cover things like the fuse to be pulled, how long you are supposed to run the engine before you tow, how many hours you can tow (without repeating the engine run), and the max speed you can tow.
You can add a charge line from your motorhome to the CRV battery and you won't have the problem any longer.

X2. Happening on this trip and not the previous ones. Followed owner's manual exactly.
For those adding a hot wire how do you wire the CRV after picking up the voltage from the connector?

I am confused as to how to go. There are two wires attached to the negative terminal. Do you connect them both to the switch then run a third wire from the switch to the battery terminal? If you switch the negative terminal what good will the charging wire do?
My CRV is new and I am having dead battery problems after a day towing. Didn't have it first two times towing but this trip had it twice.

..Fuse pulled or not, from what I've seen of how easily a towed vehicle's battery can be drained...If I was using any kind of supplemental braking system that draws from the towed vehicle's battery, I'd have a battery charging system of some kind as well. And I might would, even if it (braking system) doesn't draw off the battery.
We use the ReadyBrute/Readybrake system that is a surge brake system, that does not use ANY battery power. Only thing drawing off the battery is the rear brake light (center) that comes on whenever the towed vehicle brakes are engaged. Last trip I also used a set of magnetic lights that also came on whenever brakes were engaged. That ALONE, was enough to draw down the battery enough to make it very weak when we got to our destination (only a 200 mile trip). Car almost wouldn't start. Did away with the magnetic lights, battery was fine after trip home.
Remember also, that 'starting' batteries in cars, were not meant to be drawn down like that. They are not deep cycle batteries. Every time you draw a car battery down to that point, it may seem fine after you recharge it, but you are taking years off its life, and will be replacing it that much sooner.
I'm seriously thinking about adding a charging system to ours, even though there is very little drawing off the battery far as I can tell.

I tow a 09 Honda Fit with a lawn mower sized battery. When I tow for 10-12 hours I have had a dead battery but solved the problem by running the engine and transmission procedure while I get gas. About every 4-5 hours vs 8.

Hey, Dance Chick. I have a new 2012 Honda CRV and page 256 of the owners manual tells to pull the 7.5A acessory radio fuse and 7.5A accessory key lock fuse to prevent the battery running down, It also tells you that if you are going to tow for 8 hours in one day, to repeat the "before towing your vehicle procedure" at least every 8 hours. The fuses are located in the interior fuse box. Hope this helps.

It would've been smart if I had turned the page.....DUH!! The instructions for extended towing that everyone was talking about was on the next page.....I'm not normally an airhead, but sometimes I need to be a dumb$$$ to keep me humble. Thanks!!
