N2S and I have decided we want to see the Grand Canyon to make sure it really exists. We want to pull the Colby T from San Antonio to the Skywalk area with two or three nights along the way. Finding places to stop during the trip is pretty easy. What I need to know is where to stay in the area of the Skywalk. I expect to drive a bit between the RV park and the Skywalk, but don't know which of the area towns would be the best choice. Any suggestions? Kingman seems to have some choices, but are there others you would recommend?
Either rim in the National Park is far superior to the Skywalk. Not only do the Hualapai Indians try to scalp the White Man at this location, the road there is long and very rough. I would not recommend this spot. If I recall correctly, we stayed in Kingman, which is quite far from the Skywalk. I made the mistake of going there, you shouldn't.

Agree. There is NOTHING for RV parking near the Skywalk. It is off US 93, Dolan Springs CO Rt 25. NOTHING but 2 gas stations, 100 tour buses with engines running.
Very HOT, very expensive and VERY quick tour.
GO to Williams AZ- see the Grand Canyon by car, train and temp is about 30 degrees cooler.
If you Want to do to the Skywalk still, I would go North and stay in Las Vegas on the Boulder Strip. Lots of over night parks. I would recommend Arizona Charlies Casino and RV Park- check out Good Sam's Top 100 Rv parks and you will find it there.
Thanks for the info. N2S really wants to see the Skywalk. Don't like the sound of the rough roads, though. Is that driving to the Skywalk from the RV Parks? I can handle rough dirt roads in the truck, but not when towing the Colby T. It sits to low to the ground and makes me all kind of nervous.
We were there a couple of years ago and I saw no campgrounds anywhere near the Skywalk. Like others have said it is a long rough road to get to the "attraction". I was glad I was driving a rental car. I would not want to take an RV of any kind on that road unless it has been improved since 2010.
I am glad we went, but, I have no desire to go again.
If you want full hookups, Grand Canyon Trailer Village campground in the park is the best bet. You can walk to the tram stops from there, and you will have a/c. Even with the altitude, it gets warm there this time of year. Grand Canyon Trailer Village
The North Rim is higher and cooler (at least at night), and has a really nice no-hookup campground in a fir/spruce forest. For a first trip I'd probably stick to the South Rim, though my wife and I prefer the North Rim now.
While you are looking down into the canyon, remember to look up as well. It is a thrill the first time you experience a California Condor low flyover!
FWIW, in our travels out west, we have yet to hear anything good about the skywalk.

I have heard that time and time again .
Seems there is a big feud between the Indians and the builder about monies and everyone that goes there is sorry .

Skywalk is terrible road; we turned around because of it and also the high fee. It is not part of the NPS. Go to SR and stay at Trailer Village and spend your early mornings and late evenings feasting on the GC (views are limited at NR).
