Planning our ist trip to a state park, I am seeing they have elec.hookup but no water hookup.there are some water symbols around the circle on the web site at stratigic spots. Question is can we fill our fresh water tank when we get there,or should we do it before we leave home ? suggestions appreciated.

We do almost exclusive New York State Park camping. I always stop at one of the areas you mention and fill up. Sometimes on a busy weekend it backs things up but generally not too bad.

Have not been to New York parks but other state parks who have the same thing have places where you can fill up with water as well as dump. Ask when you come in where you fill up. The symbols are usually for tent campers to get water in the campground. Not that you cannot but you would probably have to sit in the middle of the road while you filled up.

In Ohio, there is a special spot to fill with fresh water, as well as a dump station. Usually clearly marked but ask at check-in. I have been hauling my water from home as I saw signs of hard water at one of the parks. You still have to use your white hose to fill up. Bring disenfectant wipes to use at the dump station-faucet, chain, hose, etc.

You can use the hydrants located in the loop to fill up.I do not stop in the middle of the road to fill up my tank because I don't want to block the road for others.I usually put enough water in the tank before leaving to make sure we have enough for bathroom breaks. When we get there,if my hoses reach the hydrant,I fill up that way.If not,I use a 5 gallon portable tank and carry water back to the camper and use a hose and funnel to fill it up.Some have battery operated pumps they use to transfer water from the portable tank to the RV.Others use a rubber bladder that they can put on the roof of their TV or in the bed of their pick up and fill it at the dumpstation or restrooms.

I carry 7 gallon jugs and fill up using them when there are crowds at the fresh water fill areas. They are also useful for refilling if you stay a while and run out.

We always fill up at the hydrant provided, sometimes there is no choice but to block the road and that's OK.
When traveling long distances we always have a little water on board.

In Michigan the SP water spigots are specifically designed so that you cannot hook up and fill. You would need jugs and then hoof it to your rig. There are fresh water fill stations at the dump site areas, you would need to swing through there to fill up when you get there.

I fill up at home. Never get funky well water surprises. 8.3 lbs per gallon I can handle 240 lbs.

We fill at home for the same reason eric james does--we know our water is good. The little weight that the water adds is minimal and I don't have to mess around at the campground.
