This may be a dumb question. But of course i never claimed to be real real smart.
The slide when moving in and out squeak and groan make a lot of noise. I checked. This ole Texas heat has them pretty dry.
What do some of you put on them to soften them up??? The RV dealer has about 4 different types of spray. But didn't know which would be the best. He even said I might try WD-40 but I didn't like hat idea. I know there must be a number of people on here that will give me some good ideas. Thanks.

They make a spray on treatment for the rubber slide gaskets. I have also used Aerospace 303 and silicone spray.

I'd avoid WD-40. first, check the owner's manual, since a lot of slides may give some groans in protest, but that is normal operation, and WD-40 might weaken the belt if it is latex causing it to break or stretch. WD-40 also is not good for rubber seals. Those, I'd consider a non-petrolium based silicon compound.

WD-40 is extremely overrated. I would never use it as a lubricant except in an emergency. It is a good thing to use as a coating to protect against rust and maybe clean crudd off an object. However, as a lubricant, I'd use something that is actually meant for the task like 3 in one, or a Teflon oil.

Slides can have very different mechanisms. One solution that can fix one slide can destroy another.

As for seals, I read that if you can, replace them every 5-6 years, just as you replace tires, and for the same reason (dry rot).

I've heard 303 protects and treats the seals, but haven't tried it myself yet.

BTW- Thanks for reminding me that I need to do mine lol.

These did not groan & moan when it was new, just started the first trip this spring. Getting worst as the weather warms.

I had the same squeaks. I bought some of this STUFF and it's quiet again. It comes out as a foam and stays on rather than run all over like most slide sprays.

Mine has been in heat for 7 years now.

Yes they squeak, etc. but I look at it as a warning sound, much like those beepers that beep when a truck is backing up.

Seem to work just fine as they are so I'm not doing anything.

Of course you have to remember I use Dawn dish soap to wash my coach and any toilet paper I can find, along with hanging a ladder on the back of my rig, so you may want to look elsewhere for advice......

Two of the long blade-seals (one on the lower surface of the bedroom slide and one on the upper surface of the dinette slide) on our rig had rolled over due to excessive friction. I decided to stay away from any lubricant that had petroleum distillates in it.

On the dinette slide, I've rubbed powdered graphite onto the slide ceiling top surface. On the bedroom lower slide, I'm considering spray-on molybenum disulphide. I understand that the carrier in the spray evaportes very quickly and doesn't leave any pertroleum residue.

That's a job in the next couple of weeks. I'm trying to get the generator running again at present.

We make a very weak solution of Ivory dish soap (no antibacterial) a put it in a spray bottle. Before we close up the slides we spray a very light mist along the outside slide walls, It allows the slide to pass over the gaskets very easily. The gaskets wipe off any excess water. Again a very weak solution, have used it for years and haven't had a problem. Cheap and easy

One of the used units we looked at had a squeaky slide. The salesman said it just needed some baby powder on it
