Hi:
We just bought a 20' hybrid trailer and have a couple of camp sites booked (KOA Cardinal and Black Donald). However, I am looking for other sites within a 3 hour drive of Ottawa that offer waterfront or near water access. We have a canoe and want to do some small tours/fishing with the kids.
Electric/water services are preferred but not required. Looking for something a bit more private where the focus is less so the activities offered up by the camp site and more so the lake/fishing/hikes.

check out the various Provoincial Parks - Bon Echo, Sandbanks, Fitzroy, Algonquin, are just a couple examples. Not nearly as jammed in as KOA's and other private parks.
You will likely have difficulty finding sites this later in the year however, the good ones book up quickly.
The Ontario Parks web site is quite good at describing parks, and in turn the actual site - shows pictures of the lot in some instances.
Good luck.

Thank you.
Sorry, I should have mentioned that. We checked and not many spots available. We just got the trailer 3 weeks ago but we will plan better next year. :-)

Other than Sandbanks, you should be able to make reservations at pretty any of the Provincial Parks nearby. Sandbanks is pretty much always booked 5 months ahead but they usually have walk-up space available.

Mont Tremblant Provincial Park in the Diable sector and the Chevreuil campground on lake Monroe; they offer water, sewer and 30-amp electric. Since it's a faunic park with wildlife, it has a no pet requirement.
One of our favorite places.

Looks nice but I should have mentioned we do have 2 dogs that will travel with us most of the time.

It's actually kind of funny. If you read the full rules for Park du Mont Tremblant, dogs (on or off leash) are forbidden in the park and wardens are allowed to shoot any dogs in the park! (or at least that's what was in the rules a few years ago)

Well, ok then. I am thinking that is not the kind of memory I want my girls to have about camping :-)

Here is something you might find useful. I know I do.

Actually the wardens don't just shoot dogs at will and certainly not one on a leash. The requirement was for stray dogs that were chasing wildlife such as the many deer in the park. They will attempt to cage trap a stray first. They also will not put down anything in a public area.
