I pulled the vent cover off the camper today for the first time and noticed a white tube with a black plug like thing on it which ended by sitting in a small black water catch that had some water in it. Is this the but from the drain catch inside the fridge? I see alot of them coming out of the vented areas on campers. Why is this? Do some have trays and some don't?

Dometics have this slobber tube, which carries water from a tray under the fins outside, which is of immense help with defrosting.

The downside is that the slobber tube has to be sticking out of the vent, or else the water winds up in the interior and causes rot.

To boot, the tube is very brittle. To keep the insects out and the end cap on, I resorted to using some silvered tape to keep it in place.

Poorly routed or broken slobber tubes have caused a LOT of floor damage over the years

The drain tube on my Norcold fridge terminates in a drip pan near the burner where the water evaporates. I've never seen enough water in the pan to worry about it running over.

I drilled a hole in the outside floor of the fridge compartment and routed the tube down to drain underneath. Then screened the fridge access door to keep the wasps out.

You have a Norcold,, The ones where it comes out the vent are Dometics.

The theory is the heat of the burner will evaporate the water in the catch basiin.. Hopefully.. On my Dometic they did not subscribe to that theory.

I have a Norcold and out of curiosity I just looked to see how much moisture was in the drain cup. We have had 100% humidity here for the past several weeks and this should be a real test to see how this system works. The cup maybe had a teaspoon full of moisture in it. Not completely dry, but very very close to it.

I exteneded my tube to divert drippings out side the compartment. Simply slide it through a vent on the cover. No it doesn't drip on the side of the RV.
