I just purchased a Toad Charge system. Should I connect it to house batteries or the starter batteries? Or doesn't it make a difference?

We hooked ours to the house batteries as it was more convenient. The main thing is to hook it batteries that the MH alternator is charging. In our unit, both house and chassis batteries get charged by the alternator so it doesn't make any difference.

In your case I do not think it makes a difference.. but starting would be normal.

Page 2: If your Damon is like My Damon, the converter is in the rear, I'd connect to it. Saves on wire that way.

I'd do it from the house batteries to reduce wire run and complication. Also I like to protect the start battery from any possible drains.

4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

I picked ours up at the rear mounted Onan Genny heavy 12V terminal and it works fine. Be sure to fuse both ends, Coach and toad.

I would hook it to the chassis batteries as that is charged by the engine alternator and used when running. Actaully probably makes no differance just seperating running and living functions.

I would hook it to the chassis batteries with a solenoid.

That makes the most sense if you need a toad charging wire. Of course the first thing to do is make sure you even need one.

Almost all, if not all, manufacturer's of supplemental breaking systems will state in their manuals to hook up to the chassis batteries. The reasoning behind this is that should have a problem with your charging system, you will get a warning from your coach. You will not get a warning if your house batteries have a problem. And if your house batteries loose their charge then you toad will also not have brakes!
