After using our Hybrid as a base camp for five days it is now infested with an incredible amount of fleas. Our dog hiked with us as usual. The sheer number and durability of these bugs is huge. I washed all bedding, bought a liquid spray and sprayed all carpets top and bottom, set off a can of flea bomb said to be good for 2,000 square feet and let is sit closed during hot weather. Opened it up and got a flea bite on my foot. I fogged again and searched you tube for clever aaproach to this but not sure what to do. What am I missing here? I am wondering if the flea stuff was not working or if I am missing something else? Any thoughts?

I hit one state and got them too and have several dogs that travel with me
I can't go with heavy chems or bomb in such a small area as the MH because of asthma and seizure dog. No smelly sprays either.
And NO topical flea/tick treatments for any of my dogs all had severe reactions to those. So my mission was made a bit harder.

Members here on the forum gave me this advice which worked!

I managed to get rid of them by finding a safe flea shampoo and all the dogs got washed once a week and the bedding was pulled and inside of crates washed down same time as bath day and new bedding in.

Threw out all throw rugs, and vacuum, vacuum, vacuum every day and put cut up pieces of flea collar in vacuum bag to prevent the buggers from laying eggs and hatching inside of there.

Find a spray that has precor in it or other brand name that states "prevents eggs from hatching" this is a big help. Adams makes a good spray to spray on the dog when you let them out.

Took me two weeks while I was on the road with the dogs in the MH to get rid of all traces of fleas.

This was MY arsenal:
Adams carpet powder w/linalool and nylar
Kills ALL stages of fleas life cycle
kills fleas eggs and larvae for up to 12 months.

Pet Naturals Citrus-PN shampoo
Pet Naturals flea + tick repellant.

AND

You have to spray outside the MH also. I had it easy because I use an ex-pen.

I found Raid has an indoor/outdoor spray that has no smell and no respecting bug will cross the line you spray with it. Has a battery operated trigger, great stuff. I now use this to spray around the MH every time we move from CG to CG for ants and everything crawly.

Good luck!

I had an outdoor cat that would sleep on the hood of my truck. Fleas got into the air vent and into the cab. The cat was my buddy, but that first bath was rough on me. After that, he would come inside willingly for his bath. He loved it. He would jump right into 6 inches of warm water like it was his favorite sport.

You need to vacuum thoroughly at least once a day with a bagged vacuum. Immediately after vacuuming remove the bag, tie it up tightly in a plastic trash bag and dispose of it far away from your RV or house.

During my one bad flea infestation, I vacuumed twice a day with a bagless vacuum. Naturally, I dumped the cup into a plastic grocery bag outside, then walked it to the dumpster. Since I'm fulltiming, I also used a lint roller on the bedding to keep from stripping the bed every day.

Very popular in Florida is 20 Mule Team Borax. Sprinkle it on the carpet and bedding. Leave for 24 hours, vacuum, throw the bag away .. continue to repeat. you have to continue through the cycle. The Borax dries up the eggs.

I've heard this product advertised on the radio.

The following Ask Ben responses are presented unedited to assist you in the determination of which CedarCide product to use for your particular objective. If you don't find your answer in a previous response, please click on the ASK BEN button located on the home page of the www.cedarcide.com website or contact us by phone at 1 800 842 1464.

# 1.HOW TO CONTROL FLEAS IN THE HOUSE
Hi Paul,
Good to hear from you. In response to the Ask Dr. Ben inquiry on the www.cedarcide.com website I respond as follows. I sympathize with your Flea Dilemma. I have been there myself. Don't burn the house down yet. Let me help you with the problem. Here is what I suggest you do.

It is difficult to control fleas inside because it is impossible to use large volumes of water which is normally needed to expose the fleas to a exoskeleton erosion solution and subsequent death from dehydration. There is however, a alternative which will provide instant results for inside use. It is a Cedar Oil and Silane based product called BEST YET. Silanes are used in shaving gels, deodorants, fabric softeners, hair spray and many other products. This is a very safe solution. CedarCide sells considerable amounts of this product to the hospitality industry including but not limited to Restruants, Hotels, Motels, Casino's and Condo's. Here is my recommendation for your home treatment.

I suggest you purchase some BEST YET # 4002 solution from CedarCide.com. Cedar Oil products are the only thing I know of that will provide INSTANT KILL to Flea's, Ticks and Mites. These insects have become immune to any chemical on the market. The Exterminator will not be able to help you. Save your money. Take a moment and read the attached Press Release related to BEST YET. As you may or may not know, all of North America is experiencing a infestation of these pests. CedarCide.com invented this product for the US Army and trust me, IT WORKS. If you don't believe me take a moment and go to the TESTIMONIAL PAGE of the www.cedarcide.com website and find out what other folks say about the product. Apply it on the floor, rug, carpet and furniture and anywhere else those critters might be. It will not stain or attract dirt. Incidentally, it will also get rid of any other insect you might have in the house. I promise, you will like the results.

I suggest you use a tank type garden sprayer with a wand for application. That will make it easier to get in the difficult places such as under furniture etc. It will also provide a consistent delivery of the solution often difficult to do when using a trigger sprayer. Remember, you want to get all areas as this product is a CONTACT KILLER and must be able to be inhaled by the insect to incur death. The odor of BEST YET is not offensive but somewhat overwhelming for a hour or two when total home treatments are conducted. Given a short amount of time, the atmosphere will evolve into a refreshing clear odor. I would wait several days after treatment before cleaning or vacuuming the floor areas. This will give the solution a opportunity to destroy the flea egg and larvae in the carpet.

Most orders ships SAME DAY UPS the day ordered. Depending on where you are in relationship to our warehouse in Houston, Texas, you will receive the product in 1 to 5 days. Expedited shipments can be arranged if necessary. Some thought should be given as to how the fleas got in your home. Your Pets can be treated with BEST YET also. Perhaps a outside treatment with a different product is in order ? CedarCide can help with that treatment as well.

Have a good day and don't forget to read the Press Release. It will enlighten you on the unique technology used to manufacture BEST YET and the outside product treatment called PCO Choice.

Dr. Ben Oldag

Be careful with the 20 Mule Team Borax. I had used that one time. I had a male and who apparently got some of the Borax on his underside. He got so gauded from it, I had to take him to the vet.
It wasn't something that I let go and it got worse - it was just there - boom. I never used that stuff again.

Over the years, I've had such occurrences. Have tried many approaches to immediate resolution and, while most work to some extent, it's (in my opinion) impossible to get them all. So we use Frontline Plus... year-round In addition to using more immediate resolutions when there was an infestation, the Frontline will, within one flea generation (about three weeks, isn't it???) eradicate the rest because the remaining fleas jump on the dog and get dosed, too. Occasionally, I forget to apply the Frontline and, eventually, get a flea bite. Applying the Frontline (without doing anything else) will solve the problem.

Not an expert here... just relating my experiences. Hope it helps.

When I lived in GA, we could not get rid of the fleas. Determined that they were in the yard so I took a bottle of flea dip and put it in a lawn sprayer. Sprayed the whole yard. No effect on the lawn except we never had any more fleas.

We also used, I think it was called Program Flea prevention pills. The directions say one a month but I slowed to one every 3 months and never had another flea on the dogs.

I would bet you could try the flea dip in a carpet cleaner if you tried it somewhere to test colorfast first.

Good luck.
