RE: Replacement Converter PD9270v

Its a good unit. I would also consider the Powermax Boondocker 75. Similar money and a better warranty. The Iota is nice too but more money. Check out bestconverter.com Reasonable and great folks.

RE: Source for good hydrometer?

I have a couple older auto battery hydrometers but am looking for a good temp-compensated instrument. Anyone have a source for this? Which ones are you considering?

RE: Samlex PST-UL 1500

Never hear of that oldman. Got so frustrated with the Xantrex I had it put in the garbage and hate to say it but mostly because I could get no help or understand the cat at Xantex. Clearly they are not interested in our market.

Fuel, air and spark. Remember that for next time too. Good luck.

RE: 'Elixir ELX25 problem

The Elixir is a rock bottom basic converter that is no longer produced. They have a very high failure rate. I am not sure but believe it should be used with a battery, check the manual. The beep you are hearing is a low voltage dc alarm inside the converter. I and many others have replaced their Elixir with the WFCO 8725P. It is almost a direct replacement. The opening may have to be enlarged about 1/8". The breakers from the Elixir will swap into the WFCO. The WFCO provides three stage 'smart' charging whereas the Elixir is single stage. The WFCO can be had for under $100 on eBay. There is a reason the WFCO can be had for under 100 on ebay. They don't have a warranty from Cheng when bought on ebay and they are just junk.

RE: converter

Absolutely not. It could hurt your accessories if you have an older non switching unit without filtering or a battery but it sure wont hurt the converter, it could care less. New units don't need a battery which is what I think they were trying to tell you because they have their own filtering.

RE: Advice on Surge Protectors?

Hands down Progressive. Best has them and have been great to us.

RE: Samlex PST-UL 1500

Figure 6.1 shows the inside terminals and they told me they also have lines ran to the GFCI so either OR BOTH outputs will work. I like the idea of having an outlet in the compartment where it will be installed to run a power tool or something outside direct from the unit even though its hardwired to my panel. Note that it does not recommend paralleling so a transfer switch is required if connected to the panel but nothing new there. The instructions are clearly written by somebody with English as their first language. BTW, BFL, it looks to me that Best write ups and Samlex are identical.

RE: Samlex PST-UL 1500

That is the difference. The old units had GFI output only. New can be hard wired to panel or sub panel.

RE: Samlex PST-UL 1500

Its the PST "UL" series. I think they just came out but the PST series has been around quite awhile. That was what I was waiting for, an affordable pure sine that could be hard wired.

RE: Converter/Battery Issue?

You clearly have a WFCO converter. Call these cats at www.Bestconverter.com 888-828-1893 and your problems vanish with new upgraded unit. Good luck.

Samlex PST-UL 1500

Got one. Glad it has hardwire option. Randy at best converter said it was what they were waiting for them to update. Remote is extra but seems silly not to have one. Samlex PST-UL Hardwire 1500 and 2000 can be hardwired.

Manual Powermax Boondocker

Hows that rascal working out. My buddy wants full controlof charging and I told him about it but he hangs out on FB. Said Randy has them but special order until Apr. Hey its almost Apr and we should be all getting one, eh?

RE: New Samlex UL hard wire inverter

Has anybody noticed their new PST-UL inverters? I need a hard wire about 1500 amps and think this might be the answer. I have one of the 600 watt older PST models and it does GREAT but need to run the occasional coffee pot or small microwave and want hard wire. Thinking this might be the answer. Samlex hard wire I can not comment on this particular unit but am currently BETA testing an inverter/converter 2000 watt unit for them. It has been in everything from zero degrees to over 110 degrees under inductive and resistive loads with no problems for close to a year. We are full timers. One of its loads is our residential fridge. Hope this helps. Good luck with your project. Do you mean an inverter/charger? I talked to Best and they too are working on that I think.

RE: heating pass through storage

I agree, whatever works. Every seems to have a better mouse trap. You could invent anti freeze latches and somebody would be willing to critique. Hey, the WD-40 does help prevent freezing latches this much I know but there is a better product I found at Tiffin while there. Sprayon 711 Best new snake oil I've found in years

RE: New Samlex UL hard wire inverter

I used one of their units several years ago in a commercial application. This unit looks like a very well made unit and has excellent specs. Note that it will require large gauge wire to deliver the rated 1500 watts. In the manual it calls for AWG 1/0 wire for a 3 ft run, up to 4/0 wire for a 10 ft. run - big stuff. Also - it will pull more than 125 amps for a full 1500 watt load (lots of battery needed!). That's what I'm talking about. I want full load but since its a short duration, I think a pair of 27s will do fine during short heavy loads. TV, DVD, etc and won't tax batteries much at all.

RE: "Nice" Nashville TN Campground?

Thanks. Again didn't want to hijack, just find more opinions. I think Jellystone is the answer especially with a couple teen aged daughters to shuttle us downtown ;)

RE: "Nice" Nashville TN Campground?

Instead if starting a new thread on the same topic, and without hijacking this one, wanted to bring it back to life as I too will be there next week and made a reservation at Two Rivers but have not paid or committed. Thinking maybe Jellystone or KOA might be a better option. Thanks to the OP and comments and hoping more will chime in.
