RE: F150 payload quetion

my 2013 F 150 XLT supercrew 4x4 is 1573. I have the towing package only and it is the 5.0L not the 3.5 eco-boost.

RE: New to RVs

Yea I know I'm pushing it with the weight. My tow capacity is 3500 lb on the minivan. The dry weight of the trailer is about 3100 lb. I'll just have to be careful how much I weigh it down. On the KZ web site the GVWR includes everything the trailer can hold including people. Also, for the near future my caping will mostly be within a couple hour drive of my house.
Thanks,
D
Well first of all, I hope you are not carrying people in the trailer. Just joking - we all know you can't do that.
You have to remember that 3,500 lbs is max towing, with a 150 lb driver and nothing else. You will need to subtract from the 3500 lbs additional passengers as well as cargo and the WDH hitch.
Before you even add a package of crackers to the trailer you will likely be over your tow vehicles weight rating.
that being said, I have seen folks around here towing mid sized hybrids with minivans. They take is slow and hope they are not travelling into a head wind.
My TV was a 5,000 lb max Ford Explorer towing a 3,500 lb trailer plus people and gear and we did not feel overly comfortable in it. It did the job, but we did notice going over hills, it really worked hard. I just upgrades this week to a 2013 F150 - first tow is this weekend. I am sure the new vehicle will tow much better and it will be like the trailer is not even there.
You will not be happy towing that big a trailer with a mini van.

RE: New to RVs

Welcome to teh forum and good luck with your new trailer. What minvan are you towing this with, as the model you are suggesitng has 4,500 GVWR and a 426 lb tongue weight. I would be interested to know what minvan can handle that weight

RE: How is Tracfone and/or Virgin Mobile internet service

check for roaming charges for your wifi usb's for Canada. You may be faced with excessive roaming costs. I know if I use my Canadian one, the roaming charges are through the roof.

RE: Warm enough?

We used our Hybrid all winter we (DW and 6 and 8 year old girls) camped over 15 nights in temps as low as -21C (not sure what that is in fahrenheit). I put reflectix over the canvas with a tarp on top and utilized the furnace and 2 electric space heaters. We turned the furnace off at night time as my wife is a light sleeper and the cycling on and off from the furnace drove her crazy. We also had heated blankets and were toasty warm all winter. No issues whatsoever.
I had no issue keeping the trailer at about 18 - 20C.
I also put relectix on the floor with mats on top and the floor stayed warm as well.
The key is putting the reflectix around the sides of the canvas ends so that when you touch the sides, they are somewhat warm. The tops of the canvas i left a bit of snow and ice on, as that acted as insulation. We found that wind is a bigger heat loss culprit then cold, so the relectix and tarps really made a difference when it was windy.
Hybrids will stay warm in the winter or really coald weather if you put some type of sheilding over the tent ends.

RE: killbear provincial park

As Scorp said, Awenda s very nice. If you want to stay on lake Huron, consider The Pinery, Inverhuron, or Point Farms. All very nice parks, same lake just well father south.

RE: Camping in Ontario Provincial Parks

You may be limited on a number of the non-electrical sites to get your rig in. Sometimes they are very tight and are really meant for car camping (car/SUV/pick-up) and pitch you tent. You will likely be limited to the electrical sites.
As to booking, the weekends at most provincial parks are typically quite busy, but weekdays are not as bad and you should not have a problem finding sites. Here are some other Provincial parks to think about:
Restoule - not far from Grundy lakes and a nice quiet park. Good lake for canoeing and fishing from my recollection. good sized campsites. usually has space available.
Killarney - one of the nicest parks in Ontario - great hiking, swimming and canoeing - would definately be a great place to go to
Killbear - very nice park, but can get busy.
Awenda - very nice park, good water for swimming, and nice hiking/walking trails. Lots of failry large and private campsites
So long as you get on the Ontario Parks website 5 months in advance you will not have a problem. Try to make sure you are not doing this trip ove rthe long holiday weekends as well, or that you are booked in aon Thursday for teh long holiday weekend. The busiest weekends at Ontaio parks are Canada Day, August long weekend (first weekend on August)and labour day.
Their is not much near Niagara falls, other then private parks. Some are Ok, some are a little questionable, but Ok for a night or two.

RE: CampLite / Volvo towing experience

I towed a coleman pop up for 2 years behind a 2005 v70.it only had the 2.4l base engine. You do not want much tongue weight on th volvo as the suspension is pretty soft, and the receiver sits pretty low. You may end up dragging your safety chains. I would not tow something that large behind a V70. It is too much trailer for the wagon.

RE: Any concerns on this model?

I have a 2008 Antigua 195 ck - essentially the same trailer. look for water damage under the front dinette storage area. The large awning does not cover the entire window, and even with drain extenders rain may run down the outsid of the trailer wall and seep inside - especially if the window has been left open. We left the windro open one day, went out, it rained and came back to a soggy cushion. Did not think to look under and a couple weeks later getting something out notice some of the wood a little soft.
make sure you check all electrical, applicances, AC etc.
these are good trailers, i have been very happy with mine so far

RE: Cargo Carrying Capacity

The almost identical rockwood roo and shamrock versions have a GVWR os about 4,700lbs. This trailer is about 8" longer then the comparable rockwoods and shamrocks.
If this trailer is priced comparable to roo's and shamrocks, why would any bother buying one of them and be limited by cargo capacity. even if you are not going to use it all up, you would likely be getting a stronger frame better components to handle the additional weight.

RE: Do Canadians celebrate same Labor Day as U.S.?

in Ontario we also celebrate family day in February and in August we have Simcoe day. Nohting special about these days at all excpect that it makes for a long week in the winter and an additional summer long weekend.
we also have thanksgiving, but ours is in October and not November. Thus we get younger and fresher turkeys

RE: Refrigerator Question....

1.
3. I'd rather have foot, beer, and ice cream in there than ice. When does the food go in, or does it?
-- Chuck
which "foot" do you prefer - left or right? just joking.
We actually turn ours on 4-6 hours before heading out. |I put 2 large forzen jugs of water in each of the fridge and freezer when I turn it on to help start teh cooling process. Just beofre leaving we put frozen food in freezer, along with cool packs, and some frozen food in fridge (dinner for arrival night) and load the fridge with stuff already cooled from home fridge and have never had an issue with food thawing or being warm. Our fridge seems to cool fairly quickly.
