RE: EZ Pass

I have never had an EZ pass so don't know their system very well. I went with an I-PASS which is good on roads where the EZ-Pass is except for some parking if I recall correctly. I went with the I-Pass because they don't charge inactivity fees when the pass isn't used. I have it automatically set up to charge to my credit card when the balance reaches a designated low balance.

RE: Almost embarrassed to ask....

The suggestions you all are posting are appreciated ( and amusing Jim Shoe with your Budweiser comment LOL). We're off today to check out a few dealers a couple of hours away. Will also keep our eyes open for used, not to old models. Are inspectors of MH's easy to find? Are there specific certifications we should look for?? Inspectors can be easy to find but finding a GOOD one can be a little harder.... Are you in Mount Vernon, VA? Might also want to consider going to an RV show in Hershey, PA RV Shows in general are a good way to compare different brands nearly side by side. Lazy Days near Tampa, FL also have a huge selection. Never purchased there myself so can't speak to that experience but have shopped there a few times.

RE: Almost embarrassed to ask....

It is a very hard decision. You didn't say if you were thinking used or new. We have a Monaco product that we are very happy with but I don't know that I would buy a NEW Monaco/Holiday Rambler at the present time while they are being bought out/restructuring. Just remember that all brands have some nice models and some entry level models. Try to find out where the one you are looking at falls in the available models for a manufacturer. If I were looking for a used 40 foot Diesel Pusher, I think I would look at Monaco Knight, Diplomat or higher; Holiday Rambler Endeavor; Newmar Dutch Star or higher, Winnebago/Itasca; or Phaeton. I haven't seen anything in the Fleetwood line that we liked at the same price point although their higher end models are very nice. I would look for something 2006 or newer if possible because that is around when the interior heights were raised and the advent of the one piece windshield. Floorplan is very important but as it is your first motorhome it will be difficult for you to know what you like. Try to imagine yourselves living in the coach for a month - where would you each sit to watch TV on rainy days, where would you put your groceries and/or dishes. Outside - where would you store your grill and lawn chairs, bottled water or beer/sodas. The outside storage bays can look really large until you start putting things in them - then they fill up really fast. Cargo carrying capacity is a very important factor if you plan to be in the coach for any extended period of time. Think of it as the equivalent of the foot print of a new home construction. You can't add carrying capacity later, it has to be there from the start. Good luck in your search.

RE: Towing Speed - Am I Going Too Slow?!

Just remember that you will never see the folks driving the same speed you are because they will either be in front of you or behind you.

Great Falls, MT to Gillette, WY

Looking for suggestions on nice routes for the end of this month. First thought is US 87 to US 191 to US12 - then should we take MT3 or go further east to pick up US 87 again. Third option would be to just stay on US 87 the entire way to Billings and then pick up the Interstate. Anything you recommend we stop to see between these two locations? By the way, we will be coming from the east side of Glacier National Park, just stopping at Malmstrom AFB for one night. Thank you for your time and suggestions.

RE: KVH Tracvision Flashing

Is your KVH R5SL powered by AC or 12 volt power? Here's why I ask - We have a KVH R5SL in motion Sat dish that we have been using with Standard Definition DVR's for the entire time we have been full-time. The only time we had a problem with the KVH was when the batteries started getting a little older in the coach and the sat dish would just spin and spin looking for a signal. Turned out to be a low voltage situation that KVH was aware of because I found a Technical Bulletin on their website recommending adding an AC power supply instead of using the 12volt that it came with. Funny thing was when talking to KVH tech reps, they didn't suggest checking the power supply. I had to hunt it down on their own website. It was published March 24, 2008.

RE: Beware of Michelin tires

Good thing nobody has has problems with Goodyears. :W I can only tell you about the problem we had with our Goodyear 670's. They were less than 6 years in use (Less than 7 by Date code) and only had 52,000 miles on them when we replaced the rear tires. We hadn't seen any problems but decided to replace them when it was convenient for us. Imagine our surprise when they took off the rear tires and we found a sidewall crack more than 5/16 inch wide between the two tires. We had already decided to replace them with Michelin through FMCA. Where the cracks were had not seen the light of day and the coach was driven very regularly after we purchased it in 2007. At most the coach could have sat for 1 year on the lot prior to purchase based upon manufacture date of the tire. The coach has been four corner weighed at least every 24 months and the tire pressure checked at least twice a month. I don't know what else we could have done to take care of the tires any better. That said, we still have two Goodyears on the front and 4 Michelin on the rear. For us, it was about the cost and date of manufacturer we were able to find when it was time to replace. In a year or so, we will be replacing the front two tires and again it will depend upon what is available at that time. By the way, the reason we got out of sync on replacing all six tires was due to earlier road damage on one front tire and we decided to buy two matching tires at that time. As to why this thread got so out of hand versus the same subject on another forum - intentionally or not, I do believe the tone of this thread was more aggressive and confrontational from the first post and title. Unfortunately after that, it just got worse. Bottom line, I'm happy that it worked out for the original poster and that Michelin was made aware of the situation.

RE: Surge Protectors

We prefer to have one. We have a Progressive Industries 50 amp Hard Wired Unit. We felt it best to have one since we travel to many different campgrounds. While you can check the pedestal before plugging in, that is only a reading for that moment in time. We prefer to be out and about and not sitting around the campground checking a monitor to see if the power goes up too high or browns out when everyone's Air conditioners kick on all at once. We also plan to keep this motorhome for a very long time and see a Progressive Industries unit as an investment in preventive maintenance.

RE: Beware of Michelin tires

Tire Dressings come in two varieties: Solvent Based (which are clear and greasy) and Water Based (which are milky). Aside from being non-biodegradable and often slinging up onto your paint while you drive away, solvent-based silicone dressings contain an compound known as Dimethyl (DMS) which leeches the elasticity from the tire causing it to harden prematurely. It also advances the movement of Antiozonant out of the rubber, causing premature browning of the tire called “blooming”.

RE: Beware of Michelin tires

Is it possible while he was meticulously maintaining it that he used some type of treatment on the tires to make them shine? Some of that stuff will definitely cause tire damage.

RE: DSI fault light on panel - Hot Water

The DSI fault light only pertains to the gas side of the water heater. If it's coming on when the gas is off and you're using 120 AC, then you have a weird issue where something is shorting out between the two systems. IF the Electric side fails to shut OFF (defective tstat) and the ECO trips the DSI fault light will come on. IF you have the unit on LP AND 120 at the same time and the LP side fails to light, the DSI fault light will NOT come on. Doug What is the ECO?

RE: DSI fault light on panel - Hot Water

On ours it works like the folks at Camping World said - the DSI fault light comes on after the gas has failed to light for the 3rd time. The DSI fault light has never come on on ours when only the electric water heater is turned on no matter how long it is on.

RE: windsheild curtains versus windsheild shades

We updated to MCD shades this past January and we absolutely love them. We did go for the electric shade on the windshield. I actually don't know of anyone who has an MCD manual shade on the windshield.

RE: Intellitec only showing 30A service connected to 50A. ???

We had a similar issue 4 years ago. We eventually resolved the problem by tightening all the connectors in the main breaker box in the bedroom. We had to trouble shoot it for about 5 days. It started out the same way as you describe your problem. After a couple more days, it started cycling on and off like the coach was being plugged in and then unplugged at the pedestal. Intellitec pointed us in the direction of looking for a loose connection in the breaker panel. We were in Alaska at the time so the idea of something having bounced loose seemed appropriate.

RE: Malmstrom AFB to Glacier Natl Park - St Mary's

your in my area!!!! If you must stop around browning and you have pets...continue to east glacier...the path is through Browning, hang left where sdianel says to go straight, its only 20 min up the road....DO NOT let your pets out in browning...there are dogs running around and your dogs will pick up their fleas..It is more a curvy road than going straight, but East Glacier is a neat little town to stop and stretch your legs. The road from KONA to St Marys is pretty narrow and lots of turns..no way around that. if you need help, before you go PM me and I can meet you on the base if needed. Where or what is KONA?

Malmstrom AFB to Glacier Natl Park - St Mary's

Looking at the map, it looks like I could head up I-15 for a ways before cutting over west but on which road - 2? Or would I be just as well off by heading up US-89 when leaving Great Falls? I have used Microsoft Streets and Trips to map it a couple ways; what I am looking for is first hand thoughts. I'm be going in to St Mary's campground on 20th of June. Speed isn't really an issue but don't want to take a narrow smaller road if the scenery isn't worth it or if our rig size is inappropriate for the road. Thanks for your thoughts.

Using a UPS with DirecTv DVR R-22

We have been traveling fulltime in our motorhome for six years. 99% of the time, we have no difficulty but there is one nagging problem that we would like to fix. When we switch from generator power to inverter power, about 50% of the time, both DVR's will reboot. When we switch from Campground (shore) power to our onboard 2000 watt pure sine wave inverter, no problem. When we switch from inverter to generator power (Onan 8000), no problem. We have contacted ONAN about this issue and they have speculated that it just depends upon where in the wave it is when we shut down the generator. We are considering buy this UPS - http://www.amazon.com/APC-BE550G-Back-UPS-Outlet-550VA/dp/B0019804U8/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=23X8P2A81D8DK&coliid=I3ILO3QJUU1JY9 This item is not returnable so I am looking for your thoughts as to whether you believe this will resolve our issue. We primarily use a roof mounted KVH R5SL in-motion sat dish but on occasion we have to hook-up a remote sat dish when we park in the trees.

RE: No refund from Terry Bison Ranch

Thanks to your son for his service. Did you cancel the reservation over the phone with an employee (who can only enforce the rules are written) or write a letter explaining why you had to cancel? I would suggest if you cancelled over the phone, that you follow up with a Polite letter explaining why you had to cancel, when you initially notified them of the need to cancel, and acknowledge that at least a partial refund would be appreciated especially since you cancelled early enough for them to be able to fill your vacancy.
