RE: front end vibration
Ok, this is my update to our original post. On our trip home, the vibration continued, but was much worse with breaking, and depressing the brake had a pulse back through the pedal as it vibrated/rocked the steering. I checked the front tires and the right front rim/tire was much hotter than the left. Made it home and took it into the brake shop.
They confirmed that it was the right front rotor sticking. They said it was common on RVs that sit for extended periods, especially the fords. He thought it was some sort of corrosion issue from sitting. They did not recommend just doing the one rotor, and agreed as well that there are issues with the front break lines collapsing.
So, had the front break lines replaced, along with a rebuild of the front brakes, new calipers and pads, with rotors turned, for $600.00. Rear brakes were fine with little wear. Back on the road and issues are gone. Problem fixed.
One more reason to regularly "exercise the rig", and not let it sit to much!
RE: front end vibration
Thanks for the advice. We will take care and work our way home tomorrow. Will start with the front tire inspection/balance, change the OEM front brake lines, and brake caliper inspection, and go from there.
front end vibration
We are on a trip, and noticed a severe vibration from the front end, coming up through the steering, starting at about 45 mph. It did not start until about 10 mile from the house. Stopped and it cleared, but started back up again several times over the next 100 miles. Visual inspection during rocking the steering show maybe a very little play in the upper right rod joint. removed wheel covers and inspected tires, and found nothing. Tires are about a year old, but the vehicle did sit the last 5 months. The strange thing is the intermittent part of it. Did not have this happen before.
Did research on line, and it does seem to be an issue with ford front ends, but suggestions are anything from a sticking park brake, brake caliper, wheel bearings, or tire separation. I am thinking it would not be tire, front end, or wheel bearings, and leaning toward a brake issue because of the intermittent nature of the problem?
RE: Generator question
I have been having a similar low power start issue, with my onan generator, not sure how it is wired or where to start. When I tried to start, after sitting, connected to shore power for a month, the generator would turn over slowly, and with each revolution, the low voltage alarm on the lp gas leak detector would chirp, and the gen would not start. I connected an external battery charger to the house batteries for a few hours, and then the gen fired right off. The next day we headed out on a trip, and tried to start the gen with the vehicle running, and got the same slow turn over with chirp. We parked for the night with shore power, and while connected to shore power, it fired right off. Not sure what is going on. One time the shore power gave enough charge to the house batteries to start, one time it did not, and while under road conditions, house batteries not able to start generator from the vehicle generator charge, and there is that chirp :)
The coach battery is charging and the vehicle has power and no trouble starting.
Don't know if the coach batteries are getting bad, there is a connection problem, or the on board charger is not working correctly?
RE: driveline vibration
We are having a very similar experience. Tires are about a year old, but the vehicle did sit the last 5 months. The strange thing is the intermittent part of it. Did not have this happen before, now we are on a trip, and notice a severe vibration from the front end, coming up through the steering, starting at about 45 mph. RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???
My husband spent this weekend cleaning and waxing the motorhome and it turned out great. He did a wonderful job. While working on it we noticed the light next to the door had a melted cover. The cause was that ants had moved in and built a nest, causing a fire! I hate fire ants already but this took the cake. We evicted them for not paying the rent.
I am still amazed at all the critters that move in when you live in the South. I guess you pay a price to be able to go camping all year long.
RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???
I cut the cab over off with a and threw it away because it was rotten and moldy...I am now trying to figure out what I'm going to do tomorrow.
Does anybody know where I can get the fiberglass sheeting for a custom rebuild job?
My husband says try the wind deflectors thy make for semi trucks. About he same size. Also he would like to see some pictures.
RE: Darkening Windows In Winnie
We bought inexpensive sun shades made out of a foil that you put in your car to protect it from heat. Lee sized them for all three bedroom windows and the skylight and slid them behind the existing shades. Made a huge difference not only darkens it but reduced the heat. Total cost $12 from Walmart. Saves on AC too. Christine and Lee and three dogs now. Added a Westie to the mix
RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???
Starting the generator up so we can sleep with AC tonight in our driveway. Power outages continue and more bad storms in forecast. Plus neighbor wants to stop by for her coffee in the morning
RE: Is lack of a rear cam a deal breaker?
Our Minnie came with a camera and I like it, especially when traveling alone. Backing up into a campground space is much easier when using the camera along with your mirrors. We live and camp in an area where 80ft plus pine trees are abundant and hitting on of those will set you back a few thousand $. Just in our driveway alone I have to park the Minnie inches from 10 tall pine trees and the camera makes all the difference.
RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???
Hi,
I thought I'd return it to storage--oops! It is a provincial holiday.
???
Do they close all the roads on holidays?
Thanks for the laugh. I needed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RE: weep holes on roof of cab
Weep holes are mainly to get rid of condensation from cooking or heating with propane, Propane expels condensation while burning, so if you are a fair weather camper guess that up to you ,I'll keep mine since I camp all year round.
This is the first explanation I have received. Thanks! My main concern is water penetration because I have minor leaks from the cab over, and it looks like water would get in here. How do these weep holes allow condensation from the inside out, without letting water from the outside in?
RE: weep holes on roof of cab
Well, I sent Winnebago pictures over a week ago, per their request, and no response, so I guess I stumped them. Eternabond it is!
RE: weep holes on roof of cab
I wrote to Winnebago and they responded that they did not know what I was talking about, but needed to see pictures, so sent pictures, and now waiting for a response.
RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???
Serviced the generator by replacing the spark plug at 800 hours, (runs much smoother and starts better!) Should of been done at 500 :(
and pulled the bottom plug on the muffler to dump carbon dust- Is this really necessary?

This is the weep hole;
