RE: Starting a controversy on RV Net

Just take the half full tank and dump it into the half empty tank and problem solved.:S Something can not be half empty.. its either empty or partly filled......sort of like being half pregnant ! LOL !!!! :-) This is still not the worst topic on here, by far LOL! Just had to join in! Andrew

RE: time to set up?

Levelling would take about the same except for a MH with automatci levelling. A good routine for setting up a pop up takes about 15-25 minutes to get everything done that you need to do to set up a pop up to get inside and start on the other stuff. I agree with this one exactly! The extra stuff like dining tent, out door chairs etc is the same no matter what you camp in. The PUP itself takes about 20 mins. Re: the motorhome and auto levelling.....we recently followed one in to the park, we were set up and drinking a cold "beverage" before the MH was even parked! And as for leveling, those hydraulics were going up and down for close to an hour :D Andrew

RE: camping near Kingston Ontario

....... We want to travel a little out of Kingston and under 10 hours. ... 10 Hours from Kingston and you will be in New Brunswick. NB Provincial parks are great. Our first stop in NB was at Sugar Loaf PP. It has nice trails and Mountain Biking. Wish we had stayed longer there. $24 a night including elec & water. I recommend calling the Provincial Travel people, you know 1-800-new-brunswick or whatever it is and getting the books. Thats what we did. You can then plan with those inhand and all the info you get from here. HTH Andrew

RE: OUTSTANDING Service

Upon leaving a campground in Nova Scotia, we noticed a strong ammonia smell in the RV. ................ I am overwhelmed by the kindness, friendliness and hospitality we have experienced from our Canadian neighbours. For Rick to do what he did is indeed above and beyond. Canadians - I salute you. Lonnie and Hazel Henderson Grey Mountain I ( as a Canadian ) am very glad you had a nice experience, but, its the people of the EAST coast! I have lived here in Southern Ontario since the late 70's, but I was completely over whelmed by the friendliness of the people in the Maritimes we met this summer! They put us to shame!!! :-) Good luck for the rest of your trip. Andrew

RE: BC Fuel Prices

You guys have been very helpful and I appreciate it; I see no reason not to come to BC next summer unless the world goes to hell in a handbasket. I have to figure based on today's situation when planning a trip and it looks like about an 8% differential on the US / Can dollar. It was even two years ago when we were there so, right now, I am 8% ahead. Thanks so much. Now thats what I call "Glass Half Full" type of thinking ! :) It is nice to see a "fuel price" thread that has not gone stupid! Andrew

RE: Wear and Tear

...We had one who feels he paid for to much food. We should have went and paid for our own meals. But that just the way it worked out... I guess you now know who doesn't get to go on the next trip :W w00dsman Ditto, lesson learned I had a friend who wouldnt pay for gas because " you guys were going that way anyway!" needless to say he took the bus home a lot LOL!!!! RE: It got an other one...

I ain't the sharpest pin in the cushion, but I believe I could see the underpass ahead and know that the thing was too low to pass through. Stuff ain't that hard. There is an underpass near our house that is about 12' clearance IIRC and delivery trucks keep hitting it. They have now installed a bright yellow I-Beam ahead of the bridge also at 12' . They hit that first!!! I assume it is cheaper to fix than a railroad bridge. Same as those people that get the gas and brake "mixed up" and end up at the counter of the Pizza Place! Happened at our local place!!!! I also believe there is a "little" leeway in those signs too,so that you can be close. So no excuse but stupidity. LOL Andrew

RE: NFLD and Maritimes - A Great Trip - long post

WOW, great and timely post! There is a bunch, well a small group of us planning the same trip in August of 2010 we are in the planning stages now, and any information like the above is well taken. Anyone interested in the fun can join us here: "Eastern Trek 2010" Thanks for the post! We did NB NS and PEI the best as we could in three weeks ! and planning was very very optional. We emailed for the provincial guide books and basically called from one campground to the next . NEVER needed a reservation. The best part was talking to the "locals" and getting the inside scoop on some places with no tourists LOL Andrew

RE: Another ? about a Prodigy B.C.

I did it the hard way. The cost of a trip to the Auto Parts store for two sizes of splices and looking everywhere for my crimper tool , and all the time on the interent trying to make sure I was going in the right direction, would be coverd by the cost of the adapter plug. Of course, the answers came almost instantly once I posted to our favourite forum !!!! Andrew

RE: Best route thru Montreal?

Don, I guess you probably got enough info now, especially from the "locals" but we did your option #1 +/- . The construction when we went through was not tooooo bad, sounds like its hit and miss! On a the bright side, that was the only real bad construction, but it was everywhere. Seems that Our Govt is spending a lof of Stimulus money on roads! Enjoy the ride Andrew

RE: Wanted Level Campsites - Ontario Parks.

I think the key to Franks original post here are the words... I still think everyone should be able to expect a "reasonably" level campsite ... I have been at Ontario Prov Parks that are like being on the side of a riverbank! I carry a heavy piece of 2x10 as a leveliing board and had to put a LOG under it to get the camper up about 8 inches!!!! The other side of the camoer barely had the jacks down! On our recent trip out east that board remained completely unused, along with 150ft of extension cords I seem to need in OntParks as well LOL Reasonably level is not much to ask, either for my Daughters One person tent, or for Frank's Big Rig or any of us in between. RE: off to a slow start

That is for sure. NB Parks could teach Ontario Parks a thing or two, not the least of which is price! I also felt bad wearing my shoes into the Bath House, I was looking for slippers! We will keep it our secret so there is room for us next time we go LOL The Cabot Trail certainly was breath taking in spots, and for those of us from the FlatLands of S Ontario, it was interesting driving at times LOL Andrew

RE: Cost to add brakes to popup?

BUT remember automotive brakes are designed to safely stop the GVWR of the vehicle, NOT the GVCR. Even some very stout pickups when hooked to a PU still needs brakes to bring the stopping distance back down near the non towing vehicle. People wouldn't think of towing a hybrid without brakes, but the truth is most PU's weight as much or more than small hybrid trailers. As some of you know, I recently installed a Brake controller. After 3 sesaons of towing without actually using the brakes and one with, I can tell you it is great to have electric brakes. You really do not even know the trailer is there when you stop. It is as someone said, like Day and Night. Andrew ps:Also as an aside, I tow with an f150 that I use for working in home renovations, so I am accustmed to hauling around weight.

RE: Trailer wiring hook up

Ok we purchased a palomino yearling in 2006. It has a 6 way square plug. This year we are using a 2008 Toyota Highlander to tow with, it has a 4 way flat plug. We have purchased a 6 way square car end (hopefully ther's only one type)from a trailer dealer and have a 4 way flat trailer end, hoping to make an adapter basically...since we can't find one to buy. Anyone have any idea if this will work or have palomino wiring color codes so we know what wire is what? Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. We have a simillar trailer. Now it came with the 7 pin plugged into the 6 pin square allready. Methinks the previous owners kept yours :-) I may be able to help you with colour codes for sure though. Someone mentioned that the electric brakes wont work. That is true of course with the 4-pin plug. Trailer wiring from the Manual: - Green wire = Clearance lights - Red wire = Left Turn - Brown wire = Right turn - White wire = ground - Black wire = dome light - Gray = refer - Blue = Elec Brakes - other white = Ground for brakes HTH Andrew

RE: off to a slow start

Well, we were off to a slow start, but the rest of the trip went well. Thanks to the people at Tirecraft near Woodstock Ontario, we were on the road feeling safe! Saw maybe 1% of the maritime provinces but we will go back for sure ! Andrew Cathing up on many posts !

RE: Best route thru Montreal?

Gents; Your not painting a very encouraging picture. I assume everyone slowing down because of the road condition or is the situation just magnified by driving an RV. Should I also assume any road thru the centre of the Montreal is the worst or is it simply Quebec Province? Just trying to find the best of a bunch of evils. donc We just got back from the east coast and the only "rough" part IMHO was actually in Downtown Montreal on the QC 20. This was due to construction ( clearly LONG overdue ) The rest of the 20 is fine, although very straight and boring LOL. I have to say one thing about Quebec drivers, they put Ontario to shame. They can merge, they allow you to merge or change lanes and mostly they keep to the speed limit and keep right. It was a pleasure to drive.....although long and boring :-) Andrew

RE: Mississauga, Ontario RV sites?

JMHO, .............there isn't much (realize Mississauga is a major city). I second the Bronte Creek PP idea. I agree, its about 25mins drive each way, but it is all Multi lane Highway . GPS Co_0rd is 43.403426,-79.756794 plus or minus LOL Andrew

RE: off to a slow start

how's the condition of the spare? Bon Voyage It is OK, If we were going to be doing a shorter trip, I would put it on, BUT considering the distance I was not going to chancce it. I will however optain another tire / rim combo, so that I have a spare-spare ! Andrew

RE: Sep/Oct Weather in the Maritimes

Do they speak English in Nova Scotia?? GM You are thinking of Newfoundland where they speak Newfenese! It is though based very loosely on English :B Most of Canada you get by pretty good with English though. We are heading out east in the morning, assuming my tire comes in! ( Just poking a little fun and our friends from the rock ) Andrew

RE: off to a slow start

good luck... I believe that tire in a load range D is a bit harder to find... LOL !!! Thats the understatement of the week :R Most of the tire guys that they called didn't even believe there was such a thing! ....but apparently they can get one Purolator'd down and we "SHOULD" be on the road tomorrow at 11am. Hopefully! Anyway, its a story to tell over and over again in the future. Andrew
