RE: Adding a 4 prong flat to existing 5/6

An adapter would be the easiest way of taking care of this. When you need the 4 flat just grab your adapter and plug it in. When you're finished put it back in the glove compartment or wherever. Just curious - what's the reason for needing to keep the 5/6 pin available?

RE: Proflex removal

When I called Geocel about it a year or so ago they recommended mineral spirits and that seemed to work fine.

RE: HELP- Need key for Windows XP sp 3

It may boot into Safe Mode and you could run a key finder from there. Try hitting F8 repeatedly after you see the 'Starting Windows' screen. Select Safe Mode from the menu.

RE: Removing light switch cover

After a couple of attempts I finally managed to get this thing removed. I was going about it wrong. I didn't realize that it was JUST the toggle switch cover itself that would get removed. The rest of the switch and frame is screwed to the wall. I was expecting a different outcome even after looking at the pictures I had found. I guess the next time I have to remove one I'll know exactly what I'm doing and won't mangle up the housing in the process.

RE: Removing light switch cover

I'm going nowhere fast. Something that seems like it should be so simple is creating quite a challenge for me. I've just started tinkering with this switch again.
I found a picture of a double gang version of this switch on ebay and the user posted a picture of the backside of the switch. It appears that there is nothing on the outside edges of the cover holding it onto the body of the switch that is mounted to the wall. It looks like the attachment points are on the sides of the rocker switch itself.
Has anyone taken one of these guys off before? Is there a secret trick to getting it done? I'm trying not to tear stuff up in the process.
Photo I found on ebay...

I found a picture of the single gang switch like mine but it's blurry...

Removing light switch cover

Can anyone tell me how the cover on this switch is supposed to be taken off?

RE: Switching to Linux

I thought about it just to tinker on an old 1st gen Motorola droid but I don't really see any benefit of having Linux running on the phone versus Google android OS other then saying you did it.
Edit: Just went to the Ubuntu website and looked at their distro for phones and it seems that the Ubuntu OS for smartphones hasn't been released yet. I'm not going to do any more searches but I'm sure there are some other Linux ports for smart phones already though hardware support is probably limited to a few phones running the same architecture.
The Android OS is Linux based so in a sense you already are running Linux on your droid.

RE: Switching to Linux

I would recommend taking whatever distro you choose for a spin under a VM (Virtual Machine) before committing to installing it on your system. This runs the new OS in it's own environment so that no changes are done to your machine. It'll be much less of a headache for you if it doesn't seem like your thing.
There are others but VirtualBox is a good one for that.

RE: Brake Controller

Another vote for the Prodigy P2. I've been towing with one over the past two years with no problems or complaints. The P3 is a step up from the P2.

RE: Anyone use "Flying Insect Screens" on your vents?

We have the screens on the water heater door, furnace vents and the fridge vent/access panel. They are well worth the price. For the water heater door I attached bug screen to the opening cut to size and held them in place with jb weld from the inside. The other two appliance screens are pre-made.

Interesting, but with the FoxFi app you don't need special software on your laptop to connect.

RE: Changing Suburban Electric Element

I have the same model water heater and the switch on the outside of the unit to turn on/off the electric element had gone out - just something else to check unless you're sure the element is your problem.

RE: Free Monitor For Internet Usage

Your router may or may not give you that information - depends on the model. There's also third-party firmware for the most popular routers that can give you this data such as DD-WRT.
If it is only one computer you are concerned about data usage with then I would just install a bandwidth monitor utility on it and call it a day. NetMeter is one and there's also BitMeter. If neither of those catch your attention there's others to choose from.

RE: Best apps for determining stops

RoadAhead for the iPhone is what we've used a bit and works quite well. It'll show you the exits up ahead on the Interstate and show you what services are available at each one.
The price is right for it as well - free.

RE: Water heater fire.

When I told this fellow race fan about my issue he said it was my fault because i had it hooked up to a generator while running gas and to read my manual.
I fail to see how this would be any different than if you were hooked up to 30 AMP shore power on a pedestal. What model water heater?

RE: Bigfoot

I really like the picture, but I don't think that it is Bigfoot. I can't be sure because I can't see her feet.
If you look between her legs you can see a little of her foot.
