RE: Campground Near Plano, Tx

Springcreek RV is the only thing IN Plano. It gets bad reviews from some and good from some. Take your pick. The south end of the park looks like a conventional RV park. The north end is mobile homes. There is a transition area between. For convenience, it would be the best. The next closest is the Lighthouse RV in Melissa, just north of McKinney. But the traffic can be a nightmare between there and Plano. 75 can be at a standstill both north and south depending on day and time. Since I live here, I have seen both from the road, but I have never stayed at either. This is not an RV destination area.

RE: Good Hotel on Strip in Vegas to Park TT??

Hotel prices on the strip vary considerably week to week and even day to day depending on what conventions are going on at any given time. But you can get some really good weekday room rates at Harrah's right in the center of the strip with a little searching. Check their "hot deals" button on their web site. Rates sometimes less than $50/night during slow times. But unfortunately I don't remember them having an open parking lot that you could get a TT into. Parking garage is the only thing I remember. Might give them a call and see. The Sahara at the north end of the strip used to have an open parking lot across Paradise Road from the hotel. But don't know if they still do. Edit: I looked at Mapquest aerial view and it appears the large parking lot is still there. There is an overhead walkway across Paradise to the hotel/casino.

RE: A FYI on 3/4 and 1 ton tow vehicles

Wow, I didn't know there were parks that could hold 200, please continue with your count :C We go to an RV park in Colorado each summer that advertises 450 sites. And last year in July, they had many rigs parked in a staging area with no hookups waiting for a site to open up. :E

RE: Cedar Creek vs Montana -

Here is what a "salesman" told men. ....... Plus the CC is a wide body where the Montana is the standard 8'. How is that for a sales pitch? The Cedar Creeks are 96" wide. Last time I checked, that was still 8'. Maybe the salesman has a different tape measure. Doesn't give a lot of credibility to his other statements.

RE: F350 shift on the fly

A very good place to ask the question would be the Ford Truck Enthusiast web site. You can get an answer to about anything Ford truck related there.

Read about short beds and broken rear windows.

RE: Small 5th wheel?

Don't know how small is "small". But most of the major manufacturers have some brands that fit that category with units 25' or shorter. Check web sites for Keystone, Forest River, Jayco, and others. Each of these will have several different brands, so check the floor plans of each.

RE: Cedar Creek vs Montana -

I don't know anything about Montana, but Cedar Creek is better. :S :R We have an '07 Montana that has been completely trouble free and we could not be happier with our purchase. 8500 miles and 73 nights so far. Although we bought the Montana, I am in no way bias for or against either. We looked at both the Montana and Cedar Creek a long time before deciding. Both appear to be equal.

RE: Learn How to Read Maps Not GPS

I fully agree. My GPS tried to take us thru a back road, unpaved, over a mountain pass into Great Sand Dunes National Monument in Colorado. Fortunately we knew to go a few miles farther down the highway and take the paved main park road. Another time, my son's GPS lead us to a dead end road, also in Colorado. We could see where we needed to be across a dry creek bed. Fortunately, we were not towing at the time and could easily back out and get back on the highway and find the correct road. A GPS is a great tool. But far from perfect.

RE: hauling a 5th wheeler

I would get a F350 Ford or 3500 Chevy/GMC or Dodge diesel. The brand is whichever you like best. There is very little costs difference between the 350/3500 and the 250/2500. And the 350/3500 has a better payload capacity if you decide to up size later.

RE: Suction cup mount GPS problems ?

I am with eycom. Get a bean bag type. Easy to move and easy to hide.

RE: Shopping for Electric Heater-need advice

We use a Lasko blower/heater. At night we can sit it in the living area pointed toward the bedroom. It will blow warm air into the bedroom and circulate it back to the living area. Very quiet and not easily tipped over.

RE: roads

Is your question about road conditions? Or a route?

RE: single or dually?

I pull a 34' 5er with SRW and stability is not an issue even in strong cross winds. I would be more concerned about the pin weight of that 38-40' 5er being too much for an SRW.

RE: Garmin map update

I just updated my Garmin maps. I did not notice the size, but it took about 2 hours on DSL connection. I also updated it about a year ago and it showed a new nearby road that had opened just about a year before that. Don't know exactly when they actually added it.

RE: Good internet weather forcast site?

I prefer National Weather Service for current conditions and long range forecast. Seems (to me at least) most accurate. And wunderground.com for radar images.

RE: MP3 players

It is going to depend a lot on the area. I use a Belkin that plugs into the lighter socket or power adapter and holds the Ipod upright. Works great most of the time. Occasionally in large cities where most every frequency is taken, it can sometimes take a while to find a useable frequency. Even near the Dallas area, I have found one particular frequency that I get good response from. And I can usually use that same frequency when driving hundreds of miles away.

RE: New to 5th wheel questions

I have an '07 F350 pulling a 34' Montana and don't have that problem at all. The Montana has Moryde suspension that creates a really smooth ride for the 5er. And I added a 5th Airborne air ride pin box that smoothes it out even more. It is a pleasure to drive and tow. And I can tow it 500 miles, everything is still in place.

RE: + & --'s of replaceing Pin Boxes... $$$$

Our F350 SRW and 12,000# 5er pulled and rode pretty good. Not much herky jerky motion or chucking. But I installed a 5th Airborne pin box and it smoothed it out even more. Worth the money to me. About $500 if I remember right. I installed it by myself, but a second set of hands would have made it easier. I lowered the front of the 5er until the pin box was about an inch over the lowered tailgate of the truck. Removed the bolts. Dropped the pin box. Raised the 5er. Pulled the truck out and lifted the pin box out of the truck. Put the new pin box in place in the truck bed. Backed the truck back under the 5er. Lowered it down on the new pin box. Put the bolts back in. Not too much trouble.
