RE: Different Hitch ??

I am not pulling that heavy (closer to 12,500), but I put a 5th Airborne pin box on mine. Really softens the ride for both the truck and the 5er. Worth the money to me. Considerably less expensive that an air ride hitch.

RE: San Antonio

We also stayed at Travelers World, a little ways south of downtown, and will again. Very convenient to downtown and the Riverwalk and Alamo. The street in front runs directly downtown and crosses the Riverwalk. Bus stop right in front, but we drove downtown several times and parking was never a problem, even right at the Riverwalk. Sea World is at the west edge of town and Six Flags/Fiesta Texas is at the north/northwest edge of town.

RE: What are most common greenhorn mistakes?

If you do not have a V gate, make sure the tailgate is down when hooking up (and unhooking). And up afterward. Can be easy to forget if distracted, and costly. :o

RE: Picture From Last Saturday Night....

As long as the program sound and the related talking and laughing that goes along with it are within reason, and if all is shutdown by listed quiet time (if in an RV park) it would be ok. But like some others, I hope I am never parked next to you. And it has nothing to do with NASCAR or any other sporting event. I like sports as much as the next person, but not necessarily the same sports as the person next to me. And there are probably programs I like that you would not want me projecting on wide screen next to you for you to see and have to listen to.

RE: Traveling Through Fort Worth and others

I have found that when you don't speed, the likelihood of getting a ticket is greatly reduced. Yep, that works for me also. And I have not seen any more activity in Ft Worth than any where else.

RE: Bike Rack Questions-- Again

Having seen too many bikes bouncing up and down and side to side on the back of trailers I would not put ours back there. Removed the front wheels and carried them (3) laying in front of and behind the hitch in my long bed truck. Removing the wheels was a pain and stacking them caused some scratches. But I recently fabricated a pin box receiver to hold the 4 bike rack. A few feet of 2x2 angle iron and a cheap receiver tube from Harbor Freight and it works great. Not sure I can get 4 bikes on it, but 3 works. We normally only carry two anyway.

RE: Age old question.

Any of the big 3 350/3500. Dually or not will depend on the pin weight of the trailer and the rating of the truck.

RE: Cable & Satellite Inputs

As noted above, the cable input goes to the normal circuit with the antenna, thru the switch box, and to both TVs (assuming you have two). The satellite input requires a satellite receiver box from Dish or Directv with a cable from that box to the TV.

RE: Traveling in Tornado prone areas

We have lived at the southern end of tornado alley all our lives and really just don't worry much about it. Just keep an eye on the clouds. If you have a smart phone get a good weather app or two with good radar maps. If you see a heavy storm in your path pull over some where until it passes, preferably some where that provides shelter. Rest areas around here do have storm shelters in them. Can't say about other states.

RE: squirrels under the hood

Go to Home Depot and get some Critter Ridder and spray it on all wires and vacuum hoses. Will stop them. Chewed mine 4 different times to the tune of about $400 each time. After spraying every 1-2 months they have never bothered it again.

RE: First time using Dexter E-Z Lube axle

As long as you did not do it TOO fast. Slow easy pumping with a manual grease gun while continuously turning the wheel and it works great. Pumping too fast or too hard can push grease past the seals.

RE: Digital Multimeters- An RVer's Best Friend

Anyone not comfortable using a DMM/DVM/VOM/etc would do well to build ( or have someone help build) a test fixture as described under "outlet testing" on this web site. No probes to worry about. Just plug it in before plugging the RV in.

RE: Second A/C question

Depends on the trailer. Some have duct work so that the second AC can be ducted into the same ducts that the rear AC is in. And the thermostat can operate both units. Some do not have that feature. You will need to check the trailer to see for sure.

RE: 3,500 max tow capacity.

There are some TTs under 3,500 lbs, but not many and they are pretty small. Google light weight travel trailer and see your options.

RE: Fifth Wheel hitch

Any of the common name brand hitches are good; Reese, B&W, Pullrite, Curt, etc. If you want a flat bed (i.e. no rails in the bed) when you remove the hitch then look at the Reese Elite or the B&W Companion. Remove the hitch and the bed is left flat. Both are very good. Leaving the rails in is not a particular problem as they are not very intrusive.

RE: 5th Wheel Travel with Large Dogs

We have been traveling with a 5er (not full time) and a Golden the last 7 years. Previous truck the rear seat folded up leaving a platform for her bed. New truck does not have the same platform so I made a simple removeable one with some light weight wire shelving from Home Depot. She is always ready to go.

RE: Towing with new pickup

I have not read newer TSBs, but an older one I read did not mention any change in ratings. Two wheel drive trucks have 2" blocks I think.

RE: Towing with new pickup

I agree that a little nose high will not be a problem. Depends on just how high it is. You probably have 4" blocks under the rear axles. Those can be swapped out to 2" blocks to lower the rear of the truck. Ford has a TSB on that very issue. I did it on my previous '07 F350. New '12 F350 (with 20") is also a little nose high but I have not swapped out the blocks yet.

RE: Fantasticvent stuck?

Mine stuck after the first year. Climbed on the roof and lifted the cover by hand. Cover was stuck to the gasket. Called them and they sent me something to clean and lube the gasket with. Has worked fine the last several years.

RE: License Plate on Coach Front Required in Texas?

$7 for a set of replacement plates. Walk in, hand over $7, walk out with new plates.
