RE: Plywood X support

Here ya go:
clicky
I made some a couple years ago. I think they work great. You can add blocking to level. I also use 2 -2x6 across the top of the X's. I store these against the forward bulk-head.
One thing I would do different, is to, make the slot slightly larger than 3/4". When the wood gets wet and swells, it makes them harder to separate.

RE: Camper Jack Backing Plates for Bigfoot

I would also use some Sikaflex or 3M 4200 adhesive to help bond the brackets to the fiberglass.

RE: Happijac Qwik Load turnbuckle upgrade?

I went to the Home Depot and bought the 1/2" rod. I cut it with my grinder, to lenght. TL gives you the hardware to do it either way. Using the rod you can customize your length. Before you make the cut make sure you thread a nut on above the cut, then spin the nut off. This makes it easier to reset the threads.

X2. I fill or pressurize the system, with city water supply. Then I check that the pump is working properly.

RE: Absorbtion refrigerators in Hot Weather

I use a battery operated fan in the fridge, on the bottom shelf. It gets the cool air, which settles to the bottom, up and moving. I also use a thermostatically operated fan in the exterior compartment, to help move the heat up the fridge chimney.
Here's a link to the company that make these products:
Fridge Fans
One other thing that we do in really hot temps is use a small cooler full of ice for drinks. This limits the amount of times you open the fridge. And the beers are always nice and cold.:W

RE: BC Canada and truck weight ratings

I've never had a problem. As long as you don't stop at a scale you should be ok. If your rig looks level and safe, you shouldn't get stopped.

RE: Battery relocation project - BF10.4

HMS Beagle, thanks for all the detailed info and help, with my battery move/upgrade. I really appreciate it. When I get it done, I'll try to get some pics up. I'm going to get the batteries any day now, then I can gather the supplies to do the install. I was thinking of buying some stuff from here:
https://www.vtewarehouse.com/index.php
Do you know of any other online retailer for battery install supplies?

x3 on a bolt in a cordless drill. I used my grinder to grind 3 sides, of the threads flat. This way it doesn't spin in the chuck.

RE: Battery relocation project - BF10.4

No, i'm not running two battery banks. I'm thinking of doing as you have done, and relocating 2 batteries to the inside front of the camper.
I thought that maybe, by adding an isolator, it would protect each battery from cross discharging. This would be in the case of one battery goes bad. I'm still learning when it comes to understanding how the RV 12v system works. So, running them in parallel, so as to limit the discharge level makes sense too.
With just one battery bank and no inverter in the system. I guess I have 60 amps going to the battery bank. What would be the largest draw be? Just trying to figure out the wire size needed. I know the wire size is based on amp draw and the length of run. Once the wire size is determined then you can pick a fuse size?

RE: Battery relocation project - BF10.4

I was thinking of using a battery isolator to seperate the two batteries. To prevent any cross draining between batteries. I was thinking of using a 90 amp isolator. It has 3 posts. One for each battery and one labeled, "Alternator", which would go to the converter? I'm guessing it's a diode based one, like you described. You said they cause a voltage drop?
As far as fuse size, at the battery. Does this need to be slightly larger than the largest draw on the batteries? I think my Happijacs have 2x20amp fuses. So 50 amp fuse?
I'm going to use AGM's and I have a PD 9160 converter. I have some #2 wire to do the runs to the converter.

RE: Battery relocation project - BF10.4

I'm thinking of doing a similar project in my BF 10.6. I wish I had that basement compartment. No such luck though.
I'm going to put them inside the camper, under the dinette. I have a storage door with enough room for 2 group 31's. From there it should be a short run to the converter.
When you did yours, how did you tie in the existing wiring with your relocated batteries? My battery shut off is near the outside compartment, on the other side of the camper from the new location.
Did you have a wiring diagram to design your install? Like placement and size of fuses? I've read 12v side of life, but the diagram is very basic..
Is a Battery isolator needed?
Any help would be great. Thanks

RE: Extra propane

I carry one extra bottle one the rear seat, in a milk crate. I seatbelt it in.
Definately comes in handy. For the bbq or portable fire pit. With auto change-over you can take one out of the camper, but having one out already is easier.
When boondocking my Onan 2500 uses a fair amount of propane.
If you have propane, food and fresh water you can stay where-ever for a longer time....

RE: Jacks down while camping with camper still on truck?

I've had 2 flats (slow leak) while camping. With my jacks down and turnbuckles released, I was OK. If I didn't it would have ripped out my camper anchor points. Funny, kinda ludicrous actually, but I never thought about my tire pressure increasing. LOL. If ya listen you learn something new everyday.
If supporting one side of your truck would tear out your anchor points I'm not sure I would trust them while on the road. The dynamic forces have got to be much higher than that as you hit bumps.
I don't think there is a camper out there, that has anchor points that will support the weight of the rear of a truck. They're there to hold the camper in place, to prevent shifting. Gravity does most of the job, to hold it in place.
