RE: GST refund?

Thanks for the quick replies.
I hope not. I never try to claim any tax I pay in the US.
I drove on your roads and will gladly pay tax.
That is awesome...you should apply for U.S. citizenship.

GST refund?

I have been trying to decode the Candaian Revenue Agency website as to whether I would be eligible for any refund. We spent a week camping and doing the tourist thing in Banff. Can I just submit one of the forms along with copies of our receipts that show we payed GST....and expect a refund?
Thanks.

RE: Kalispell, MT to Las Vegas...avoid SLC?

Just got back from our 4,800 mile / 21 day trip. Had no problems going thru SLC yesterday (Monday) at about 1230 noon. Saw some cones on the Ogden area, but all was clear. Provo still had some construction going on, but it was a non-factor.

RE: downtown Denver on a Monday morning

Postscript (for anyone who cares)....
Left the AF Academy at 0730. Traffic stopped briefly about 1.5 miles short of the E-470 interchange and then picked right back up. Averaged about 55-60 mph all the way thru Denver with exception of a small accident on an on-ramp. Then the wife says to me "well that was easy". About 60 seconds later (approaching 136th Ave) we see a billboard saying that there was an accident 3 miles ahead. Ouch. After 15 minutes of sitting still we exited and hit the wal-mart to use the restroom. I-25 was closed for a short time. We took a side road (Huron) that was probably a mistake. Cost us about 80 minutes.
What surprised me about the rest of the trip thru Cheyenne and to the Black Hills was the terrible fuel economy. Seemed like we were constantly going up hill. I did better going thru Colorado.
Thanks for your advice.

RE: downtown Denver on a Monday morning

Thanks for the input guys. I may just let *****in' Betty (Nav unit) do the work for me and navigate me through Denver. She did a great job in LA a few weeks ago. Still negotiating with the wife - 0600 to her means 0615 is a win. I'm leaning towards a 0800 departure. We'll be leaving from the Air Force Academy so C Springs traffic hopefully should not be too bad regardless of when we leave.

RE: Mountain driving w/new Ram

Yeah, I'm not that smart but am also curious as to why the rpms will all of a sudden just jump to 2500 when going down a hill (with or without tow haul mode on) and effectively slow the truck down. And that's when I don't want to slow down and let gravity help me out. Is that one of the problems with this tranny? Or is tht a good thing?

Mountain driving w/new Ram

I'm a thousand miles in to a 4,500 mile vacation thru the US and Canadian Rockies. Previous experience was towing an 8.5K travel trailer with a 7.3L Excursion. Now I have a 2012 Ram DRW with 4.10 axle and pull a 14.5K 5th wheel.
Made a few trips from Las Vegas to SoCal and have been impressed with the ability of the exhaust brake to handle Baker grade and Cajon pass. Never need to really even touch the brakes. This past week we've driven from Vegas to Ouray, Colorado and now Colorado Springs...via I-70 and Hwy 50. These mountains are a little more challenging and include the long descents with 6% grades and 30/35 mph curves. Here's my question.....
How do you guys with the Rams and newer trucks with 6 speeds approach these descents? I was locking it into 2nd and 3rd gear with the exhaust brake helping. My concern was the rpms running over 3K right at the red line. Had to use the brakes occasionally to keep the rpms under control - more than I had hoped would be needed. Can't imagine trying to bring the rig down Red Mountain Pass into Ouray.

RE: downtown Denver on a Monday morning

Yeah, that's what I am thinking. Getting my 4 women loaded into the truck by 0600 may be a bridge too far. If it were just me, I'd be on the road by 0445.

downtown Denver on a Monday morning

Any locals out there that can give me a little guidance on getting thru Denver on I-25 this Monday morning? We'll be leaving Colorado Springs on our way to the Black Hills and Mt Rushmore.
If I get on I-25 by 0600 and hit the Denver area by 0700....how ugly will it be? Should I wait until 0800 to leave C Springs?
Thanks!

RE: Kalispell, MT to Las Vegas...avoid SLC?

Thanks for the posts. I think we are going to play it by ear and either hang out in Montana for an extra day, or take our time and do the Idaho and 93 route.

RE: Kalispell, MT to Las Vegas...avoid SLC?

Thanks - I did mean 93. And if I were going to avoid SLC, I would pick up 93 in Missoula and make my way thru Salmon and Twin Falls. I'd like to cut through Idaho and check out the Sawtooth area, but we don't have enough time to stop and hang out.
I'm thinking that maybe we should stop at Hill AFB (620 miles) and arrive after evening rush hour. And then leave the next day after morning rush hour.

Kalispell, MT to Las Vegas...avoid SLC?

This will be the last leg of a 4,000+ mile trip over 23 days - to include Ouray, CO, Mount Rushmore, Banff and Jasper. Gotta get home to Vegas in a timely manner as the fun stuff is over and it's back to school for the kids.
From what I have seen on recent posts, it seems like the problem with SLC is traffic delays. True? Or is there major potholes/construction debris that would be best to avoid? I can make a small detour and head west to Twin Falls and take 95 down the east side of Nevada. I did that a few months ago when picking up my new truck - cool scenery until darkeness set in. And it is in the middle of nowhere. But keeping on the interstates would probably make life easier for the final 1K miles.
It will be a Monday or Tuesday when I go thru that area. It's a vacation, so the idea of trying to time my way thru SLC at 10 pm does not appeal to me.
Any suggestions?
