RE: New Triple Slide

If Eagle Cap goes under it will be a great loss. The economy being their demise would be one thing but they aren’t doing much to save themselves and/or enhance their business in the cyber-marketing department. I don’t know about the worth of the rest of their sales organization but whoever oversees their website should have been fired long ago = it’s one of the worst out there!
Chalet’s website is even more of a modern day atrocity. Both companies could easily and cheaply find a local high school kid that could do a much better job let alone the zillion qualified pros out there.

RE: New Triple Slide

Let's take a new design and slide system and test it out...oh, we can test three while we are at it. :) Seriously, how dumb would someone have to be to entertain buying a slide camper from a brand new camper company!...
You mean like those who bought Host campers when they were a new company a few years ago?
You can see from my signature that I have a Host. Someone noted Host came out of nowhere...just fyi, by 2006 they had three different slide designs. Last I checked, they haven't changed since the 2006 models, but thinking this company got it right with one time...almost no chance.
Gary Hubbard came over from Eagle Cap so I'm thinking he knows a thing or two about building a quality rig.
Pretty much everyone who builds a slide camper has changed them. I'm think 3 revs would be good, so wait for about 5 years. :w
Introducing a whole new line along with a new style slide system does seem like it would merit more than a one year structure warranty on a 45k purchase. Must be Gary knows we will buy all they can produce weather they warrant them longer or not since we the public have a long history of doing just that!

RE: New Triple Slide

Sounded interesting until I read this: "A breakthrough came with our slide mechanisms. Lippert just recently came out with a slide mechanism that is different from a normal slide mechanism. It has two inch clearance on all slides. The slide-out is all the way to the floor so there's only a two inch step into the dinette. And the whole slide-out mechanism weighs seven pounds! The Power Gear slide mechanism that others use weighs about 100 to 150 pounds per slide. It’s a big breakthrough in slide mechanisms."
You should do a forum search on "Lippert" and read about all the problems TT and Fiver owners have had with Lippert frames. Sounds like they really know how to make things light and flimsy.
:):)
Lippert Components is a huge company that has been in the RV supply business since 1956. They are now owned by Drew Industries who also owns Happijac along with several companies. While I'm sure they have had some issues they are one of the most successful companies in RV history.
Regarding the new Total Control 1 slide out mechanisms they are building, my money is on every RV manufacturer will be using this new technology as fast as they can dump the now antiquated systems they are currently using.
Less framing requirements … two inch clearance on all sides … only require a two inch step-up in the dinette … super lightweight … no adjustments ... extend out further adding 18” of floorspace all sounds like brilliant and much needed engineering to me!

RE: New Triple Slide

What is Gary Hubbard thinking? Better yet what was Eagle Cap thinking? EC had the mold for a great triple slide . . . the Okanagan TKS126. All they needed to do was change the framing to aluminum, add gel coat siding and give the EC trim and touch.
Who is going to buy a TS from Chalet, a company whose reputation is built on tent trailers and pop ups?
I'm confused. I thought Gary worked for Eagle Cap. TCM Article
The TS116 article says he started with Chalet in October

RE: New Triple Slide

Wow! The new TS116 is stunning! Like when Host came out of nowhere and blew the doors of everybody in the industry debuting their first slide-ins, it looks like there’s a new sheriff in town by the name of Chalet!
State-of-the-art construction, Lippert’s striking new slide mechanisms … “the furnace, water pump, generator, and batteries are all on the outside of the interior box” ... “no wiring or plumbing in the fully insulated and heated storage compartments” … “a 46 x 72 inch long bed in the dinette and a 46 x 72 inch bed on our flip lounge sofa” … immense amounts of outside storage right down to “lighted” jacks … the list of cool innovations goes on and on! Truly amazing out-of-the-box thinking for a change! :C
Thank you Gary Hubbard, Carl Kern and the rest of your team for arriving on the scene and shaking a mostly stodgy industry up like never before. I look forward to seeing this (and may fly up to Louisville for the day just to see the TS116) and the rest of your designs.
On another note: Something over a one year structural warranty would be nice. :W
P.S. To Bill Penney of East End Campers who asked “Why did you start at the top? Why didn’t you start with a small camper?” … ask Host for that answer lol! ;)

RE: Mouse Urine smell

Wow, sorry to hear that! A friend swore by this product used at their kennel so I got a bottle and am a believer now as well. Other alleged odor eliminators I’ve tried either didn’t work or the perfume smell they left behind was horrible. If you can get to the source it will take care of your problem from my experience. Good luck!

RE: PC in your TC?

BiGG, Is there an advantage to a wired connection as opposed to a wireless? I noticed that the one you suggested at TechForLess is a wired connection as opposed to those I had been looking at which were wireless. The wireless would seem to be better in house for the phone amplification since you would not be stuck to a desk etc when talking.
Thanks,
Grant
Grant, Wireless is likely the way to go if you want too spend the money as you can use it for multiple phones and aircards simultaneously but for my use what I have works great. I’m not sure if there’s any signal loss with them rebroadcasting or not so it might be worth a call to the company to ask.
Back when I first bought one they were near $400 for the wired version and I was skeptical about its worth. I was also at my home in northern MI where the cell works fine but the aircards were useless so when it arrived and I started cruising the net at lightening speeds I was hooked. It sits on the table beside my laptop and/or desktops when at home and I take it everywhere in my briefcase when traveling by vehicle or plane so since I gotta move it all the time anyway it doesn’t matter if its wireless or not for me. Creature of habit I guess!
P.S. I’ve rarely needed it for the cell but use it constantly for the aircards and in case you didn’t see it in their website this is the reason I use Wilson. Don’t know if it’s just a sales line or not but they sold me with it!

BiGG, Thanks for the input. Greatly appreciated.
LabMan1945, Check around when ordering, I see them on sale here and there. I like using sites like NexTag for price comparison and see TechForLess has the wired version I have on sale for $150 including shipping! I’m gonna order another one for just in case something happens to this one for that price.

RE: 2001 Lance 1161 NIGHTMARE!!!

In response to posting a picture of Mooney’s license plate …
11/06/09 05:42am Maybe it’s not a concern for some here but I would never post a picture of my license plate when it only takes a few minutes to look up that person’s real name and address having that information.
Too many nutjobs and criminals out there lurking around just waiting for an opportunity!
11/06/09 07:16am I post my name.. many know my address... and phone numbers
what if, what if, OH! my... what if
I'm not a scaredy-cat
afraid of everything in the world
I even boondock with impunity.
Get a life
11/06/09 08:13am No need to be an idiot about this, I was just being nice offering a suggestion, maybe you could be nice in return when responding! :R
I posted it because criminals may wanna visit Mooney's home next time he mentions hes away camping.
11/06/09 09:12am I'm away from home for 5 to 6 months a year... my debit cards and credit cards are used the whole time. My out of state lic plate shows up in several hundred locations every year. Everyone knows that we are not at home.... what they don't know is who is at home!
I refuse to be paranoid. I refuse to be scared.
I refuse to obsess over every little thing in life
I refuse to try to scare others.
12/23/07 08:36am My view seems to be different that some.
I don't want an uninvited visitor to just show up.
I don't want to be on a list of any sort that gives personal information….
….. I don't blindly trust my fellow man.
Apparently you’ve changed you mind since the post in 2007 or its ok to post others personal information but not your own? :h

RE: PC in your TC?

Along the lines of this thread I probably have a stupid question but here goes. I have been looking at the Wilson amplifiers but get rather confused with the different models. I am looking for an amplifier for the truck when traveling and if possible use the same amplifier in the house as my reception sometimes leaves something to be desired. Can the same amp be used in the house with the antenna located near a window? Also what is the real practical difference between the 12.5" and 4.8" magnetic antennas? Does the larger antenna pull the signal in better than the shorter one?
Yes you can use the same one and with mine I usually can just set the antenna anywhere in the room for good reception, you may not need too worry about placing it near a window. If you are getting a weak signal now you are gonna love the amp! For the antenna, I bought several but have only used the small one with great results so I never hooked any of the others up.

RE: Many New Lance TC for 2010

Interesting how after all those years of nearly everybody else going to aluminum while Lance was still telling us how their wood framing was allegedly superior they are getting with the times and admitting they were wrong. That aside, its nice seeing some new blood in the mix.
Gosh in hard side campers I can only think of Arctic Fox going to ALL Aluminum frames in all models before Lance. Of course I’m only thinking of companies still in business.
There’s Host and Eagle Cap off the top of my head but that’s not the point … when others started building with aluminum Lance continued touting the alleged superiority of there wood framed units for several years until they changed their minds in recent history and started building their larger units with aluminum. Now all their units will be aluminum so did wood change recently or what lol!

RE: PC in your TC?

I'm not surprised, really, by the usage. Lightweight notebooks really do fit the bill for the TC. The comment regarding reading the "news" with a cup of coffee really hit home. While I have the PC, I don't have a paid wireless account. I was a bit surprised by the number of folks who posted that do.
I avoid monthly fee's like the plague but of late have been considering dumping the home hard-line phone/DSL (~$60)and going with a wireless cell/data combo (~$90). Have others dropped their home data tethers in favor of the mobile solution or are you carrying both? 5G of date enough or do you come up short?
I’m mobile and online more than most so I have two aircards as 5G would never work here but even for normal use with 5G you will need to pay attention to the amount of pictures/videos monthly as 5G can get chewed up in no time. If you spend a few hours online everyday it should be no problem and they do have a handy button you can click to see your usage-to-date.
As far as landlines, haven’t had those for years now and would never even consider one.
P.S. I mentioned it before but can never stress it enough, look into an amplifier as there are too many places around the US that have shoddy service you will not be happy with where they speed things up or no service unless you have one. They work as advertised!

RE: Lance generator compartment mod - Yamaha EF2000is generator.

This is also a lance designed generator compartment, not just a storage spot, with a metal interior and factory venting built into the door.
Yeh, my Lance has the same thing. Make sure your life insurance is paid up.
Brad
Ever heard of anybody having a problem using a gasoline powered generator in an RV? With the odds of you being injured/maimed/killed being in the stratosphere doing just about anything else on the planet compared with this, I don’t see the big deal. Like for instance, there are over 70,000 pedestrian injuries and 5000 deaths annually in the US and not one from a gasoline powered generator used in an RV that I have ever heard of. Should we all stop walking now as well? :h

RE: Lance generator compartment mod - Yamaha EF2000is generator.

Gasoline powered generators have been used in RV’s since the beginning of time and I wouldn’t think twice about using one pending it had a proper intake air/exhaust setup. Motorhomes and toy haulers come standard with gasoline powered units, a TC is no more vulnerable than any other RV in this regard.

RE: PC in your TC?

What are y'all using for connectivity? .....
Verizon (the only choice with 5 times the 3G service AT&T has) aircard and you will be happy you shelled out a few extra bucks for an amplifier which will also work for your phone when needed. The amp will provide service in many places where you can't get service and speed up your connection where you can.

RE: 340 cummings DP

Unlike gas, diesels do not need stabilizes. However, in a warm humid climate, an anti fungus additive would be wise depending upon how long it is stored. Anything less than six months would not require this however.
What source do you have that refutes this information?
