RE: 2006 NuWa Hitchhiker 37CK

Champagnes are great trailers but tend to be heavy. Like Norsky, I thought that was a real nice floorplan. I'm on my third NuWa now and really have no interest in looking at other brands.
Unless that trailer was a special order, brakes should be all electric.

RE: New to me fifth wheel, a few questions.

With the Reese instructions it not difficult to install the rails. Check the Reese site online and see if you are comfortable doing the install. You will also need frame brackets for the rails which is where a lot of the price comes in. The custom brackets for your vehicle do make the installation nice and easy though, generally no holes to drill other than the truck bed.
Can't help with specific insurance but it pays to call around and check. Had been with the same agent for 15 years with occasional price jumps. Shopped and got the same coverage for a lot less money.

RE: Electric Brake Performance Issues

Were the drums turned when you installed the new shoes? It will take a bit of driving for the new shoes to seat against the drums.

RE: Least problematic brands and dealers

Since you've mentioned them, I'll throw in the plug for NuWa. We're on our third Hitchhiker now and have been very happy with all of them. Yes, I know they are currently out of production but the factory is still open for repairs. Their outlet, Kansas RV center has quite a nice inventory.
We are fortunate that our dealer is only 35 miles away and does outstanding service. We had a couple of warranty issues on our second HH and they were promptly repaired. Current trailer has had no issues at all.

RE: Any LEO retired or currently sworn here!

Enjoy it!
retired from the State Police after 28 years. I'm still friends with most of the guys in my Academy class. I went in with 2 years experience at a local PD so law study times had a group at my bunk asking questions. It actually worked to my advantage as it made me remember the quirks in the laws. Best time will be riding with your FTO where you learn the "real stuff".

RE: hitch and pin gap or sizes

Sounds definitely like a slider hitch in a short bed truck. Had that in a previous rig and would get folks attention when I slid the hitch without following Reese directions. Reese says lower the landing legs to take some weight off the hitch which does work very well and quietly. Also sounds like inadequate lube on the slide rails.

RE: I90 East to I87 NY.

According to the paper this morning, construction on the twin bridges finished last night. Some temporary lane closures to be used to remove the temporary crossovers.

RE: Looking for a RV park on 301

We use that route but generally during the off season. Tried Lums Pond, ok but just not in the right spot. Tried parks in Bowling Green and not impressed at all. Have used Kings Dominion, first exit south on 95 if you use 206 to get back to 95. Good overnight stop.
We're 30 minutes down the road from you and I'll push the first day and stay at South Fourty just south of Richmond. Leaves 2 easy drive days from there to Florida.

RE: I90 East to I87 NY.

CCMRET, you missed the West Ave. turn and went through the downtown, heart of Saratoga. Tractor Trailers do it but going around West Ave is a lot easier.
It's a bit over 30 miles from I90 to exit 15 I87. There is a Hess with diesel just past the exit with a rear exit around the block back to rt 50. It is a bit tight though. There's also a truck stop at exit 16 but at exit 17 north about a mile there's a Sunoco with diesel with very good access plus the best price.

RE: I90 East to I87 NY.

You can do either, the route all the way to Albany being longer.
If you want to short cut, get off I90 at the Fonda exit and follow rt 30A to rt 29.East on 29 to Saratoga Springs. As you enter Saratoga, turn left on West Ave ( D'Andreas liquor store on the left) and go to the T intersection. Turn right and go past the hospital. At the next light, bear left (Van Dam St) continue straight onto the arterial ( rt 50) After you pass a lake on your left, you want the left lane for the entrance to 87 north about 3/4 mile ahead..
It sounds complicated but is an easy route to follow and avoids a nasty turn from a narrow street through the business district. It does save quite a bit of time and a lot of miles.

RE: Colleton State Park,South Carolina

Used to use Schumans' park just up the road from CSP. Very nice elderly gent owned the place. Not too many sites but all pull throughs. Haven't been that way in many years so not sure if its still open.

RE: Power Chip in tow vehicle

Ran an Edge EZ set at 40 horse on a 2000 Dodge dually for about 20k miles. Satisfactory increase in power but no change at all in mileage. Did have to watch the EGTs on hills as the temp tended to get higher than I liked.

RE: Syracuse NY to Tampa FL

From your side we've used 81,66,17 to 95 to go south, brings you out to 95 at Fredericksburg, Va. Use an entirely different route from our side of the state. As far as stops, we've used South Fourty, Petersburg, Va, RVacation, Sleepy Bears, Lumberton NC New Green Acres, Walterboro, SC Savannah Oaks, Savannah Ga and Lake Harmony in Townsend Ga, all nice spots with easy access from 95. If you need an early stop on 81 at Lebannon, Pa is Lickdale just before the 78-81 junction.

RE: Double Towing OUTSIDE of Michigan...

Cost is likely not the biggest problem. You will be required to make your vehicle legal before you continue which means dropping the extra "trailer". Are you prepared to leave the bike alongside the road while you go find a place to store it?

RE: To old to pull that big rig.

I'm 70 and enjoy traveling with the trailer. Have a group of friends I meet in Myrtle Beach in October for some surf fishing - and I'm the youngster in the group. What Dusty said is true, though, I can't do the 600+ mile days anymore.
I did have a friend who drove his motorhome quite capably into his 90s.

RE: Using Weber 120 with RV Propoane

Yes it is quite easy. I had an old regulator that had failed. Removed the regulator and kept the valve. Shopped the fittings bin at the hardware store to match up with the hose connection and quick disconnect that I picked up at my dealer. My HH already has the quick connect fitting on the propane line. The only thong I would do differently is to get the longer propane hose. I went with the 4 footer and should have gone with the 12.
