RE: Pittsburgh, PA - northwest side near I-79/22-30interchange

We visit family in Pittsburgh (Munhall) several times a year. Occassionally we boon dock in Munhall, but lately we have been staying at Pine Cove Beach & RV Resort. It would be an easy 30 miles drive from the campground to Rosslyn Farms via I79. Hope this helps. Send me a PM if you need more info.

RE: 5th Fall Friendship Gathering 9/25-27, 2009, Verona, NY

Yep. since last weekend she was filled with the pink stuff and covered on the outside in gray and white. Have 3 month reservation in FL starting Jan 7th and hoping no family health issue arise that would prevent the trip from happening. Certainly would be nice to bump into some of you guys in 2010.

Motorhome Engine Whining Noise

I just started to notice the 454 Chevy engine on our 1996 motorhome is producing a whining noise. The noise becomes louder and higher pitched as the engine revs up. The voltmeter on the dashboard indicates around 14 volts but at times drops lower but never into the red zone. This noise has been present for the past 1500 miles or so. I suspect it could be alternator whine, but what does this mean? Is the alternator about to go bad? Should I replace it? How can I test? Thanks in advance for the help.

RE: Country Way, Luray, VA - Anyone else here?

You are right about this being a nice campground. Nice size, level sites with a great view of the mountains and surrounding farmland. Only thing lacking would be cable tv. Like the rest of the northeast it is could here right now but weather will return to more seasonal temps in the high 60's and low 70's this week.

RE: heat shields on spark plugs 454

I too use the Jacob's ceramic boot plug wires. Have used them on the MH 454 Chevy engine for the past 30,000 miles with no problem. In fact, I just replaced all the plugs, ditributor cap & rotor...the plug wires looked to be in great shape.

RE: Mr. Monk goes camping

At first I thought someone was writing this about me. But I do not have a TT. I think this is perfectly normal and wish more people were this clean.

Bruce.... I feel for you. I know the routine as I have been having them since the age of 39. Once you have one you have a good chance for reoccurrance in the future. Drink lots and lots and lots of water. Then drink more water. I have one on each side right now...very small, but they are there. Doc says down the road when you reach 65 yrs of age you have less propensity to create them.

RE: 5th Fall Friendship Gathering 9/25-27, 2009, Verona, NY

On September 4th we started an 18 day trip at Pine Cove Beach & RV Resort, then on to Stonewall Jackson Resort, then Friendship Village Campground and then a final stop at County Haven Campground. When we reached Country Haven Campground we had plans to make reservations at Turning Stone CG and surprise some of you. Buuuuttttt....on the second leg of this journey a car decided they wanted to be in the same lane with us on I68 near Cumberland, MD. Fortunately no one was injured but 2 cars were totaled and our MH has about $2K in damages. We were able to continue with our trip...just shook us up pretty good. I use Delorme GPS software on my notebook PC so the entire accident was logged. So, does not look like we will be surprising you guys but hope to be able to join the group again sometime in the future. By the way, all the CG's listed above are excellent. We had tried to get reservations at Stonewall Jackson for the past 3 years and finally had success this year. Have a great time in Turning Stone !!!

RE: Involved in car accident with MH

Now I wonder how the insurance process works? Will the insurance companies fight with each other to see who pays for what? The police officer told me the report has the woman as the cause of the accident. Does that mean her insurance has to pay for everyones damage? Does that mean she cannot sue anyone? Also, here is something interesting. I run Delorme Street Atlas for GPS routing. The software creates a log file which I never paid much attention to...until now. I just played the log file and could see the MH route, speed and heading for my entire trip including the accident. The speed limit in this area had just reduced to 40 mph and I can see the MH was travelling at 38 mph. I never exceed the speed limit anyway, but was reasuring to see I was below the limit.

RE: Involved in car accident with MH

Larry B...... So very good to hear from you. Hope all is well with Anne, you and your fur buddies. Last winter we missed wintering in Flordia but for this winter we have our reservation made for a 3 month stay at Olde Mill Stream CG in Umatilla. I would be anxious to hear your planned travel route when you head to RI. It would be so nice to see you guys again. The damage to the MH is much less than I expected. When the woman hit us the thud was quite un-nerving. When I got out to see the damage it was not what I expected. There is one small 3 inch hole in the fiberglass on the right side near the bumper area. Also some long scratches in the paint and a large black rubber mark where here tire hit the MH. The police wrote all the details for each of the drivers and gave each of us a copy with an accident report number. The police officer told me the accident report would read with the lady at fault. When I called the insurance company they asked for the accident report number and the police department that responded. Since it was the weekend the insurance company said a claims rep would call me Monday morning. I'm glad that we keep the owners card and insurance card in the MH glove box along with a pencil and pad. When your all shook up it makes it real easy to find the info so easily. In hindsight I should have taken some video or digital pics while the police where documenting the accident. While all the details were fresh in my mind I wrote everything down as soon as we got to the CG. We were all so fortunate to not be seriously injured.

Involved in car accident with MH

For the past week we have been travelling in the motorhome. We visited Pittsburgh for a few days to celebrate my mom’s 90th birthday and then headed south into West Virginia for an extremely relaxing stay at Stonewall Jackson Campground. This morning we departed West Virginia and headed for a stop in Bedford, PA. Just 30 miles south of Bedford we were involved in a motor vehicle accident while travelling on I68. A car came up on the right side of us, struck our motorhome and then the car continued out of control passing in front of me and into the far left lane and finally crashing into a cement barrier. Then this car was struck by a car in the left lane. We managed to come to a stop and not strike anything, nor did anyone plow into the back of us. Those 2 cars are probably totaled and out damage is less than $2,000. Fortunately no one was injured, but the lady that caused the accident was frantic. We are able to drive the motorhome just fine and have stopped in Bedford, PA at Friendship Village CG as originally planned. We have not decided if we will cut our trip short and head home or continue with a stop in Lancaster. Right now we are both a bit shook up and going to take a walk now to see if that will relieve the stress. PS....when a car srikes a motorhome you can hardly feel the bump but do hear the thud. The Brake Buddy in the car did an excellent job when it was necessary to make the emergency stop. Stonewall Jackson CG is awesome.....a solid 10. Frienship Village CG is nice...8+.

RE: Shower Drain - Plumbers Putty or Silicone ???

Thanks folks for all the replies. So far the putty job is doing well. When at Lowes I too thought about buying an extra rubber O ring and place one on top and one on the bottom, but decided to do it the old fashioned way with putty. Thanks again.

Shower Drain - Plumbers Putty or Silicone ???

Yesterday while sitting outside the motorhome I noticed a small water drip under the coach. I immediately recognized it as the same problem that occurred 3 years ago. The seal around the shower drain has dried out and allows water to leak around the drain. The last time the repair was relatively simple since there is an access panel that allowed the drain basket to be easily removed and reinstalled with fresh plumbers putty. But I thought the seal would have lasted longer than 3 years. This time when I removed the drain basket again the plumbers putty was dry and crumbling. I wonder if the putty is drying during winter storage? Also, my wife uses Scrubbing Bubbles to clean the shower and I wonder if this stuff is caustic enough to deteriorate the putty? In any case, I used plumbers putty to do the repair again this time, but for a short time I considered using silicone caulk instead. What would you suggest....plumbers putty or silicone caulk? Thanks for the advice.

RE: Base Plate Installation - Honda CR-V

When I purchased my Honda CRV I negotitated to get the best price I could. Then when they would no longer budge on price I told them I would sign the bottom line if they would install the base plate for free as part of the deal. Be sure to get it in writing on the contract.
