RE: Dumping air when parked

I never understood why some manufacturers have you put slides out before leveling. If the coach has a high or low corner, the body xould twist enough to cause the slide to bind, when extended. I have always leveled first, and then extend slides. My leveling system uses 4 hydraulic jacks. Maybe those with only 3, are different?
Same here, my manual says Brakes, Air dump, Level, Slides.
If it helps the acronym is BALS.

RE: Chassis Battery

We have friends with a mid 90s Safari with the same problem as the OP. He puts a trickle charger on the chassis batteries, works fine.

RE: Front window rattles

A quick fix is to fold up a piece of paper and wedge it between whatever is causing the rattle.

RE: Basement rollout trays

Hello everyone....I am considering removing the rollout trays in the basement storage of our coach and selling them so i can then build some storage units myself. I know the trays are nice in some ways but I would rather use the space better. I have one full tray and two half trays....has anyone else done this and then regretted loosing the convenience? Do you have any pictures of what you replaced the rollouts with?
Thanks much,
Phil
Take them out and sell them. I have one, it's a PITA. You lose vertical storage space and, if an item on the other side is a bit too high, it falls off when pulling the tray toward you. In my other full width slide (without the tray), I have a four foot stick, like an old broom handle, with a nail bent to 90* in the end that can reach all the 'stuff' in the middle.

RE: Windshield replacement

The OP stated that the campground will replace the windshield so why should he settle for a repair?
A new one will run $800 to $1300.
Replacing a windshield is major surgery. And, like major surgery, should be avoided unless necessary. On my coach it's not just replacing the windshield...two side supports, both mirrors and other things must be removed, then put back on and resealed.

RE: Windshield replacement

How big is it and where is it? I had a rock hit the lower corner of my windshield and I had an 8" crack. A good windshield repair guy can stop the crack from moving and it will not need replacing. Mine cost $95, regularly $135, and has worked fine so far.

RE: Thank you - Open Roads Forum

My MIL had to have a kidney removed many years ago. The doc said the normal person only needs part of one kidney to live a long and full life, which she did.

RE: Which Manufacturers make a true 4 season class A ?

Virtually all the manufacturers will have some top of the line models that meet your requirements. I have an American Coach...it meets them all. Add an Aqua Hot to the heated floors for serious winter RVing.

RE: Cargo Slide trays

Be sure to check to see how much verticle clearance you will lose. I have two bays that go all the way through, one with a slider and one without. I prefer the one without. I can get lots more stuff in there. To reach everything a friend gave me a four foot pole (like a small broom handle) with a hook in one end.

RE: Nuances of driving a DP

...My Horizon also has the 400 hp Cummins with the 6 spd Allison transmission. I use the economy mode when traveling thru flats lands with little hills and turn it off when going thru high hills/mountain areas. On the matter of cruise control I only use that in mostly flat lands like in Texas for an example...!
I use the economy mode and cruise the same way. The ecomomy mode will keep the engine in a higher gear longer than the normal mode when climbing slight grades.

RE: Curious about maintenance...

I do all my maint on the MH and generator except the engine oil change. As noted above, there can be problems draining it all into a container and properly recycling it.

RE: Power Gear leveler problems...

Solinoid went bad? Go to their website. LOTS of info there. You MAY be even able to call them on the phone!
G'luck!
Check the web site or send them an email. They will not talk to customers on the phone, dealers only.

RE: Waxing/Polishing Question

I am considering upgrading from a 38' to a 43' m/h. Thought the extra room would be nice, I like the one I have now, but I would like to hear from someone that has done this. Im wondering if the extra length cause's parking problems, or if the tag axle is a cause of concern, with turning around when you find out you took tke car entrance instead of the truck entrance, state parks, and the extra cost of the tag. Probably looking for somebody to tell me to just be happy with what I have and use the money for traveling. Mine is a 2003 w/2 slides and the the one Im looking at is a 2005 w/4 slides.
Any pros & cons ?
Thanks or any advice.

RE: Newmat ?

There is a great deal of difference. Here's the order starting at the top ( and the 2011 MSRP):
Mountain Air, tag axle, $407k +
Dutch Star, some tags, $207k +
Kountry Star...unknown.

RE: house batteries

...why I can't use two 12 volt batteries which are readily available with a lifetime warranty for 1/3 the price of six volt batteries-...
You can, just won't have as much power. What battery is giving a lifetime warranty?
