Possible, but unlikely considering the poor insulation qualities of these trailer. There's no way to compare a trailer to a stick house in spite of the claims of Polar Packages, etc.

Cost. It's always about cost. They can buy their a/cs in bulk and save money. Not really. The published price for an upgrade to the 15K unit is $146 and that's going to be passed on to the buyer.

You can check for proper charge on a R22 unit with a clamp-on ammeter, but most people don't know how to do it. The usual response on this forum for just about any air conditioner problem, and usually the incorrect one is low freon. Also, the non AC people won't realize that the newer units are charged with R410A, instead of R22. R410A runs at very high pressures and the high side pressure tends to be unstable and changes a lot with ambient temperature. That means you can't just have your local AC guy come out, sweat a service valve on, slap the gauges on it and charge it until the pressures "look" right. These units have to either have an exact charge weighed into them or they have to be charged by superheat, and they have to be charged as a liquid as opposed to R22 vapor charging. R410A is a 50/50 blend of two different refrigerants. Since the two have different weights and molecular structure, a leak results in an imbalance because the two refrigerants leak at different rates. That blows your 50/50 mix.That means, if you actually do have a leak, the system must be evacuated, vacuumed, and recharged. These units are no longer shade tree repairable.

I wonder why they don't put 15K in all of them. well you don't want it too big as you want it running a lot of the time since you aren't taking out humidity when it isn't running. bumpy I've never seen a trailer that was over cooled by a 15K BTU air conditioner. I don't understand why the 13.5K models are used at all. Theoretically, you can have so much air conditioning that the unit will short cycle and not dehumidify, but I've never seen that happen in a trailer. If you think you have too much AC, spend a couple of weekends on the Texas coast in August.

RE: Splicing AWG 6 to AWG 12?

I'm just curious why the OP has a need to run larger wire. He didn't specify if the circuit is AC or DC, and If it's AC, wire is sized by load, not the current draw at the other end, and if it's DC and properly sized for amp draw and the length of the wire run, it's already sized for a 3% voltage drop which is standard, even for voltage critical devices. Trying to lower the drop before that is not going to buy him very much.

On the negative side put black Traditionally these colors mean Positive (RED) and Negative (Black) at 12 volt. No, this is not standard household or electronic wiring. White is standard color for trailer ground and anyone who works on it in the future is going to be looking for that. Is the trailer new or just "new to you"? That is not factory wiring, and if it's something the dealer did, I would ask why. Green wire is only used for AC safety ground.

12V lights on a string are always going to be wired in parallel, black or red is hot, white should always be ground. If there is no wall switch for the overhead light, then it is hot all the time and you are safe tying into them anywhere to power the fan.

RE: Transfer tanks...anybody use one?

In the interest of conserving bed space, I would go with one of the replacement tanks like Transfer Flow. I put one in my Toyota Tundra and went from 26 to 47 gallons. It takes all of the stress out of trying to find fuel, gas or diesel.

I put a Fantastic Fan where the kitchen vent was. I pulled out the microwave and found 12V wiring that goes to the range hood then fished wire over to it for the fan. This lets me run the fan without having to turn on any lights.

AFAIK, TT's do not have a disconnect switch as delivered from factory. There may be a few models that have one but haven't heard of it. It is a fairly easy retrofit. All Northwood and Outdoor RV products come with disconnect switches from the factory, to name just two more line And Komfort. And Keystone

If it's set up correctly, it will drive right, but if you are one of those who likes to "experiment" with different ball tilt angles and chain links until it just looks good, then by all means, feel free.

I wish I had a dollar for every time this has been said on this and other forums, but I'm going to say it again. The purpose of WD is not to level the TV or the trailer. It's to return weight to the front axle that is removed by hitching up to a heavy load. The manual that came with your Excursion will specify how much weight is to be returned to the front axle. It can be anywhere between the unhitched and the hitched height. It varies with vehicles but it's in the manual. As far as the TV being level, don't worry about it. It doesn't matter. If it's a big deal then install air bags or helper springs, but you'll have to readjust the WD. As far as the trailer being level, if you read the hitch instructions correctly, you are probably pretty close already. Remember, the purpose is to return the right amount of weight to the front, not to get it to "look right" or "drive right". Once you get it set correctly, you shouldn't need to readjust unless you load the trailer differently so don't try to tweak it.

These "what's the best" and "what should I buy" all pretty much end up the same. What you get is a hodge-podge of comments by a bunch of intolerant people telling you that what they have is the best and nothing else will do the job for you. It really gets rather funny when after a couple of posts, it's obvious that the guy doesn't have a clue about the topic, but he's posting something and that's what counts. As far as towing and tow vehicles, there are enough stickies and posts on this and other forums about that same topic, that if the OPs would read them, chances are the questions would never be asked in the first place. Popcorn, anyone?

A lot of the Ecoboost F150s have been sold on the towing capacity pitch. You could easily end up with 9000 lbs of trailer. They are supposed to be rated to pull 11,500 pounds and they may do it, but the Tundra was also used to pull the space shuttle and you would not want to do that on a steady basis. While the Ecoboost may be a very capable engine, think about those turbos running full-tilt boogie all day long. That is a lot of stress and a lot heat for a 6 cylinder engine to handle, and that's not even getting to the payload issues yet. Bottom line, that trailer cries for a 3/4 ton truck

I'm putting Maxxis 10 ply tires on my trailer next weekend. I know they are STs but they are the only ST tires not made in China(Asian, yes, but not chinese), plus they have a load rating far above my current Road Rider tires. I was asking the guy at Discount tire about ST tire speed rating and tire failure. The explanation that I got was that the tires are not gong to come apart simply by running faster than 65. They are not intended to do so, but occasionally and for short periods of time is certainly not going to destroy them. His explanation for frequent tire pressure is because of running them under inflated. Not only does it generate heat at that time, but it also begins to break down the sidewall and that is something that may not show up immediately. His recommendation, and what I always do is run all of my tires at full pressure. We have engineer types that have time on their hands to calculate tire pressure based on load range,weights, temperature coefficients, and chemical makeup of the rubber, and all of that stuff that they like to sit around and read, but it's much easier to run them at max pressure and move on to fun activities.. I've never created a problem doing that, and will continue to do it.. YMMV.

Arkansas State Parks are the toppest of the notch. You can't go wrong with any of them. We have stayed at Lake Catherine several times and continue to enjoy going back. Halloween week there has become a tradition. Lake Quachita SP is also close to Hot Springs and just as nice. We haven't stayed there but are going to. BTW, Lake Catherine State Park is 12 miles from Hot Springs. It's a great location to use as a base camp to do day trips exploring the other close-by parks.

Can you spin the compressor shaft to verify no mechanical lock? :h And where would one find a 'compressor shaft' ? It's a hermetically sealed compressor. I think that was one of those "I want to post something" posts.

Skip all of the above options.The EcoBoost hasn't been on the scene long enough to prove it's durability in the world of long term heavy towing and if you look around the truck forums, you'll see some grumbling about them.. Are you buying a truck for the options or for the towing capabilities? You are going to run out of payload with the 1/2 ton.You may not think so now, but take it from someone who is on their third truck, you will. You'll load more gear, want a bigger trailer, etc. Forgo the leather seats, wood trim, and whistles and bells you really aren't going to need and put that $$$ on a 3/4 ton truck that will do what you need without worry.. You can always get a Focus for a grocery getter.

I would think that if you walked into any Toyota dealership in the country you could get it. In the second quarter of 2008 Toyota moved all Tundra production to the Texas plant, specifically San Antonio. Their product brochures do not indicate special builds for specific regions. .

You can do a couple of things. The first is to go to your RV dealer parts department and buy some high dollar stainless steel small mesh screens. The second is to go to your local hardware store and buy some 1/8" mesh hardware. Cut them to fit the openings. if you don't have snips to cut it and can not borrow a pair, Harbor Freight sells them cheap. When you finish throw them in your tool box. Cut the hardware cloth to fit the openings. Take the cover off of the AC and install the screens from the inside. You can drill holes and install them using pop-rivets, or a hot glue gun will work just as well.
