RE: Another when to visit question, this one is for Tennessee

Crowds will be smaller in Apr/May window because school is not out yet. We always vacation before 5/15 or after 9/15 for that reason.
Check out Piney Campground at Land Between the Lakes. We are going there tomorrow. http://www.lbl.org

RE: Checking the Polarity of a CG Power Pedestal.
I use the Progressive Industries 30 amp EMS, but still check with this before plugging in. Anything can fail. http://bellsouthpwp2.net/l/i/liles753677/Front.jpg http://bellsouthpwp2.net/l/i/liles753677/Back.jpg

RE: dead outlets

We are getting ready for our road trip. We went to plug the vacuum in and the outlets are dead. Why?????
We tried while plugged into shore power and while the generator was running. AC works on both. (AC only works on 120) Lights are brighter while plugged in. DH used his handy dandy multimeter. Power is coming in and going out on the circuit breakers.
so.... why are the 3 120 power outlets not working? What else are we missing?
I take this to mean that while you are plugged into shore power or the generator is running the AC outlets work just fine. Unless you are plugged into shore power or the generator is running, the only way you can possibly get 120v power to the AC outlets is to have them on an inverter. Very few RV's have the outlets on an inverter. My guess is the outlets are dead because they have no shore power, no generator, and no inverter. They are dead because they are supposed to be dead.

RE: gray tank

You are going to have to do some looking. When you pull the handle to open the drain, does the drain actually open? The handle may have come loose from the drain.
If the drain DOES open, does ANYTHING come out? If the drain is open and NOTHING comes out, the pipe must be plugged and a plumber's snake may help.
If it trickles, the above post about the vent can be valid. Another cause of trickle is a partial block of the drain pipe and the plumber's snake may help.
More information about the precise symptoms will help us narrow down the problem.

RE: Question About Winter Use of RV

I have winterized. We are taking the MH out in about a week, so I will un-winterize, then winterize again when we get back. The RV club is having a camp out 2 weeks after that so I will un-winterize, then winterize again when we get back. In December, we are taking a Christmas trip so I will un-winterize, then winterize again when we get back.
It only takes about $4.00 worth of RV antifreeze and 30 minutes to winterize and it is worth it for my peace of mind.

RE: Generator/Microwave/

If you start your generator, you have obviously decided you want generator power. Therefore, the generator seizes control of the ATS and the power to the rig is generator power.
That keeps you from having to run outside and unplugging if you fear a power problem from the shore line, like during a thunderstorm or a brown out. Just crank up the generator and you are good to go. When the emergency is over, turn off the generator and shore power takes over again.

RE: Hold off on that GPS purchase...

I have had "Sprint Navigation" on my cell phone for a year. It is a VERY good GPS, but not good enough to replace my Garmin. It is WONDERFUL as an emergency tool though.

RE: Need help with rear view camera

If the monitor is connected to the camera by RCA plugs, carry a small TV with RCA jacks out and plug the camera in to that. If you still have a white screen, you probably have a bad camera or wire. If you have a good picture you have a bad monitor.

If it is a 3 pin 50 amp outlet, not without much modification. If it is a 4 pin 50 amp outlet, probably.

RE: Generator/Microwave/

It SHOULD not be necessary to unplug first, as long as the equipment is working properly. Having to thump the ATS means it may be on the way out though. Personally I don't think I would just let it go because it may REALLY go when you are out on the boonies somewhere without access to help or tools. Call around to RV repair shops and price a new ATS, installed. That will let you decide if it is worth your while to replace it now, or be known as Thumper.
the other one, is in my case, the shore power pulls in the ATS, NOT the generator, the generator is ON 'time delay' but it is wired to the normally closed side of the ATS, so there are (2) relays the ATS and the time delay, if the shore power is holding the ATS, the generator power will NOT come thru.
I have never had an ATS so I may be all wet, but I thought the ATS was usually wired so the generator seized the ATS after the time delay even if shore power was still hot. However, in his test, he was not on shore power when the ATS would not switch over to the generator. The ATS was just stuck.

RE: Generator/Microwave/

Sounds like no 110v power is coming into your MH from the generator. First, flip the breaker(s) ON THE GENERATOR off, then back on. If that doesn't fix the problem check the ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch), if you have one, to see if 110v is going INTO the switch. If it isn't you either have a generator problem or wiring problem between the generator and the ATS. If it is, check to see if power is coming OUT OF the switch. If it isn't, try rapping solidly on the switch to jar loose any stuck connections. If that doesn't help you may need a new transfer switch. Since everything is working on shore power, I bet one of these is the problem.
On second thought, my rig doesn't have an ATS. I have an outlet in the electrical bay that the shore power cord MUST be plugged into to transfer power from the generator to the MH. Check to see if you have an outlet in the electrical bay instead of an ATS. If so, plug your power cord into it.

RE: When Dealers go WRONG!

The bank sues the unfortunate couple because that is who the bank has a contract with. The bank will probably win. The unfortunate couple sues the dealer because that is who they have a contract with. The couple will probably win. The dealer will (or has) claimed bankruptcy. The only winners are the lawyers.

I agree with everyone else. All of the other channels are working so your setup is fine. No local channels means you are out of the spot beam.

RE: Free electric street legal "golf carts"?

Then you need to read it again.
There is no scam here. You pay $5,300. You then pay $100 a month for 27 months. The cart is in your possession. You drive it and use it for 27 months. at the end of 27 months, you have now spent $8,000 ($5,300 down and $100 a month for 27 months). Now, you can be done and you own the cart, or, the guy will buy your cart for $2,000.
Why is this so hard to understand????? :h
You've got it backwards. You buy the cart for $8,000. You get a $5,300 rebate, bringing your out of pocket to $2,700. You lease it to him for his use for 27 months at $100/month bringing your out of pocket to $0. However, you have no use of it for the 27 months that it is leased to him. Now, after 27 months you can either take possession or sell it back to him for $2,000. What is unclear is who makes the decision whether you get the cart or the $2,000.

RE: leaving elec. on after winterizing

It depends on your converter. If it is a Parallax/Magnatek, then ABSOLUTELY NOT! If it is one of the 3 stage converters, it would be OK.
