RE: Relocating vent fan switch

Knowing and understanding how these things are built, I can say it would be difficult to gain access to the area required to hide the wires in the wall and ceiling. The goal would be to get a wire from the fan over to the wall and down. Biggest problem is getting a hole through the top of the wall, inside the wall, into the ceiling and fishing a wire. About the only way would be to pull a panel loose from the wall so you can reach up and drill a hole into the ceiling cavity. From there you would have to fish a wire over to the fan. If that sounds like too much work and effort, why not consider changing the fan out to a Fantastic Fan, Model 6600R/417. This fan comes with a remote so you could have it anywhere. And you will have a fan far superior to anything that the standard RV guys install.

RE: Poor design medicine cabinet - anybody upgrade?

As you just admitted even a higher quality cabinet you still will have to have the same modifications to prevent things from falling out as the one you say is not suitable for RV use. I also looked closer at your pic and that bottom shelf with the stuff stacked haphazardly with bottles on top of bottles will need more attention than just a different cabinet or a simple lip which BTW won't keep taller items from leaning against the door and then falling out when the door is opened. Quite a few others have given you the actual solutions they have successfully used and I bet you will end up using something similar even with your replacement cabinet to really solve the issues you mentioned. Larry But the fact remains that this cabinet is garbage and not worth retaining. It is simply just a very poor design and it is ugly. The reason the stuff is stacked haphazardly is because I got tired of neatly arranging it, only to find it everywhere and to have half of it tumble out when I opened the door. I got to the point where I just threw it back in because this poor design cabinet won't work properly. I never had this issue with my old TT with a wood cabinet and small strips of wood at the bottom. As I mentioned when I posted this, the old cabinet is going in the trash and I am looking for ideas on a better replacement. I am not going to jury rig some makeshift thing with a cabinet that is going in the garbage.

RE: Poor design medicine cabinet - anybody upgrade?

Normally we redo most of the storage in our campers over time in one way or another. The white wire baskets and trays with the front lip that hangs down work really well when they are reversed for the lip to face up. Jim I just bought a bunch of those to use in my overhead cabinets. My old TT had them and they worked great. Like you say, put the lip up and it works good. My new TT has tall overheads with a lot of wasted space without a middle shelf.

RE: Poor design medicine cabinet - anybody upgrade?

Thanks for your input everyone. This cabinet is going to be removed, scrapped and replaced with a matching wood one. The cabinet is simply not suitable for RV use. If I can find a wood one somewhere I can buy strips of oak or whatever and fasten them along the bottom to make a barricade to prevent stuff from falling out. I am one of those people who will get rid of an offending item and replace it with something functional. I have never been one to Mickey Mouse something just to get by with it. Hooks and rubber bands isn't going to happen, but I appreciate the suggestion! I have always been that way!:)

RE: RV.Net Stickers, 2 pics, a story, a question....

It is going to take me some time to see if this will fly. I am getting other quotes on supplying the stickers. They are more money than I thought.

RE: The idler arm/pitman arm is bad again.....

Forgive me, but how does a pitman arm go bad? It doesn't have any moving parts , does it? Not Flaming, as I am elbow deep myself in 200k Ford front end issues. I replaced my drag link and sway bar links but still have ball joints and axle ujoints to do. I just don't see how a pitman arm can wear out. Pitman arm has a ball joint on one end where it hooks to the drag link. That ball joint can wear out.

RE: The idler arm/pitman arm is bad again.....

Changing an idler or pitman arm is not that hard to do. I've changed dozens of them over the years. One tool that is essential is a tie rod / ball joint splitter, pickle fork as we call them. Take the nut off and insert splitter between arm and ball joint and give it good smack with a stout hammer and it comes apart. The idler arm is bolted to the frame and the pitman arm resides on the end of the steering shaft coming out of the steering box. Pitman arm will have a good stout nut on the end of the shaft to take off with a large socket and breaker bar. Strange it should wear out so early.... I have about 205,000K or 127,000 miles on my GM Dually and I'm running all the original steering components. And it's still tight. I grease it regularly and thats all.

RE: Poor design medicine cabinet - anybody upgrade?

Is it made of wood? Can you screw some eye hooks into the sides ?? No this thing is One of those cheap tin things with a mirror door. It is ugly, poorly designed, not overly functional and it is the only cabinet that does not match the rest of the wood ones. I don't want to modify it - I want to junk it and replace it with a wood cabinet more suited for the task. I'm fine with a mirror door but even that isn't a must because there is a big mirror on the adjacent wall.

Poor design medicine cabinet - anybody upgrade?

In my new to me TT I just bought, it has a medicine cabinet on the bathroom wall. One of those cheap tin things with a mirror door. Never gave it much thought until I opened the thing for the 4th time and had yet another avalanche of stuff all over the bathroom floor. And of course it is right above the toilet so I have to retrieve stuff from behind there...:M This thing is a piece of junk!! I hate it! There is nothing to stop things from falling out when you open the door. The one in my old TT was way better. It had little cross pieces at the bottom to prevent things from falling out. Everything got tossed while driving but at least it seldom ever fell out. http://www.hanover1.net/files/miscfiles/MedCab.JPG So, has anyone upgraded their medicine cabinet to something functional for an RV? Anybody got any great ideas for replacement? I'm going to rip this thing off the wall and launch it into the nearest garbage bin!!!! OK, I won't rip it off, I will take the screws out! :B

I always meant to order a t-shirt and a hat but never got around to it. Wish I could do it now! I like the design and colors.

The one posted earlier was deleted for contravening forum rules. No selling stuff here. Posts older than year are archived so they don't show in the regular search. You have to select posts older than one year in the search box.

RE: 6 or 12 volt

I would stick with the Interstate Batteries; In 2005 I bought 2 - 6V U2200 golf cart batteries for my TT. 8 years later they are still going strong and offering plenty of juice for my TT needs. I just sold my old TT and bought a replacement so decided to let the 8 year old batteries go with the trailer and buy new ones. My replacement TT has 2 near new 12V batteries, different brands and ages. I much prefer the 2 - 6V over the 2 - 12V. More oomph out the 6V setup. Yesterday I bought 2 new Interstate GC2-XHD-UTL deep cycle RV batteries. They are designed and built for the usage we put our rigs through. I did not even want to check out other brands due to the awesome service I got out of the U-2200's. I would have bought the same ones but they don't offer that model anymore. The GC2's are an updated version of the U2200. As mentioned, the 6V batteries are a bit taller. My battery box houses them with an inch to spare.

RE: RV.Net Stickers, 2 pics, a story, a question....

Well, I am not marketing anything. I chose to fund this myself, to offer it free as a service to other members here. Years ago when the stickers were available, everyone loved them and wanted some for themselves. I was fortunate that I was able to get two of them in the mail. I put one on the back window of my TT and kept the other for that special application, as they became obsolete shortly thereafter. My choice is to pay for a bunch of these stickers myself, and mail them out to anyone who wants one, totally free. If they choose to send me something to help, that is totally their choice, not asked for, not required, but appreciated if it happens. I have contacted the mods here and they are ok with it, as long as I obey the rules, and also get permission from the forum owners. I have to find out if I can actually afford this before I proceed with anything. Bottom line is that I really liked the stickers I got in the mail a lot of years ago, and now want to offer it to the other members. This might nor even fly. If it doesn't because of any reason whatsoever by the owners or mods, then I have to accept it and step back from it all. But until that time, I would like to provide a service here we can all enjoy. And it also may be cost prohibitive to me too. I can put a few hundred into it but past that it gets a bit much. Hope this explains things.

RE: RV.Net Stickers, 2 pics, a story, a question....

Wow! Thats really expensive!! I got a price of 1.05 if I buy 500. .70 if I buy 1000 and .55c if I buy 2000. Yoop I was a little shocked at the price there... There's something on Vistaprint about discounts to business owners. I'm thinking their services are aimed at the business people. Yer quotes are way better BYU... I'm not done yet - only just begun. Going to find other places to get a price from. I live in a very competitive area for pricing of everything. There is always someone willing to undercut the competition! :B

RE: RV.Net Stickers, 2 pics, a story, a question....

I was looking here on Vistaprint Looks like the RV.NET logo (or a new non-copyrighted design can be uploaded) 200 oval bumper stickers cost $449.00 The oval ones are 5X3" @ $2.99 each. Wow! Thats really expensive!! I got a price of 1.05 if I buy 500. .70 if I buy 1000 and .55c if I buy 2000.

Well, I got pricing back today for making these things. Gulp! It is a tad more than I thought it would be.......And the rest of the story? There isn't a rest of the story yet..... I need to do some more homework and see if I can get them cheaper elsewhere. I will post about it!! :B
