RE: Lake Texoma, Eisenhower State Park

Some of the COE parks will show pictures of sites. We have always stayed at Burns Run East with it being a smaller park and some sites with water views. DH and I went over to see Eisenhower SP that did not have water views with all the brush in the way. At BRE we have stayed in sites 9 and 12 that back up to the water. Thou it has been several years how low is the lake? You will like west also for the room between sites. It would be my next pick. Sharon

RE: Any one ever rent their Trailer out

No! I cannot afford to replace it. Besides that is like having a motel after you get it back. My bed no one is going to sleep in it other than me and DH. Sharon

RE: Bottled water vs not

Only use bottle water for drinking on the road. Rest of the time with the 2 filters in the camper have not had any problems with the water. Sharon

RE: Blocking window light and heat ?

Go to the Lowe's or any other home store for the silver shade, it comes in rolls. DH cut the shade material out to fit the windows. Sharon

RE: Campsite Configuration/Setup????

The state parks and COE you cannot move the tables as they have them bolted down. We are always dragging our chairs around for shade or watching newbies. The rug is down for the dogs to lay on. Sharon Seriously??? Have not experienced that yet, but most my camping has been Alberta and BC... Something to keep in mind next time I'm down in the states! Seriously! Some will have awnings over the table and concrete pads with table fastened down or even the table and benches made of concrete. The parks we have stayed in other states do the same in state & COE.

RE: Bumper-mount outside grill - Wanted

We have a side mount RVQ for over 11 years with not one problem with grease or over heating the side of the camper or even with the awning out. Sharon

RE: Cost of food while camping ... does it have to be high?

It depends if DH is with me at the time of shopping. He can find things to eat that I never purchase to begin with. Sharon

RE: Dog owners!

I am sure ours bark if someone walks by the camper. Most of the time they are walking a dog too! We try to take our 3 with us if it is an all day outting. In the summer I will not leave them in case the power goes out, it can really hot in a camper. For short trips to the store or eat out they stay behind and I will take them for a walk before we head out. Barking will happen no matter how trained the dog is, what I do not like are dogs not tied up at the campground private, COE or state owned. Sharon

RE: Finally getting a camper!

Thanks for all the advice! My TV does have a factory installed hitch, not a bumper mounted ball. I have a 2" drop, and a 4" drop receiver ready to go. Thanks for the heads up on the shocks, and alignment. I will try it without the WDH on the way home after picking it up. It will be a 300 mile trip, so I should know pretty quickly how she does. My hitch says with a WDH the towing capacity is 10,500lbs. and 1,100lb tongue weight, so if I think I need a WDH, it will well exceed the campers specs. Can't wait to pick it up and get out to the campground. We have been tent camping since we were married 36 years ago. The last time we went camping a herd of Javelinas attacked our tent, and got into the ice chest (I inadvertently left it on the ground instead of putting it in the bed of the TV like I usually do), and my DW hasn't wanted to go camping since then! We had the grandkids with us, and that made it worse for her. I had my pistol with me just in case, and she said, you can't shoot them! I said just watch me! If it comes between my family's safety, and a Javelina, he's gonna loose every time!!! Another one from Midland. We just got back from Davis Mts SP and they have really cleaned out a lot of trees & brush around the campsites. As far as Javelinas we did not see any as others told us they did in site 10, we had 7(FHU). Only one deer came down the hill during our stay. The park redid the sewer hook ups too. Sharon

RE: RV BBQ

We have used our RVQ from the begining of 2003, cooking steaks, hot dogs, hamburgers & fish. It has not damaged the side of our camper or awning. It is made to take on and off as you are camping. Everyone will have a reason why not to use one. Try it before you toss it in the trash or store it away. Enjoy your many camping trips with your TT. Sharon

RE: What brings you back to a particular campground each time?

Davis Mts SP to the west 3 hours with trees, mountians & not as hot during the summer. Hords Creek COE park to the east 3 hours with trees and small lake with still water in it, best in the fall, spring & winter. Lake Brownwood SP to the east 4 hours, it has cabins that our children can come visit and have there own space. It is half way for them to travel. We use it for holidays. Sharon

RE: Wired or Wireless?

A radio is the best way, we have used them for many years and work great. The camera cannot see the roof top for branches even if you think they will clear the top. Sharon

RE: For Those Of You....

I am always using my oven for breakfast rolls, pizza's or whatever needs heating up & baked. Would not do without it. Sharon

RE: TT tools

You think you have everything covered in tools & replacement items. Until that other thing breaks that you have no part for or way of fixing it. Sharon

RE: Oakwood RV Resort Fredericksburg,Tx

We stayed at the KOA, friendly owners, just make sure to get a large lot, ours was not much room between campers. It was fine for the 4 days we stayed. I did like they had a fenced dog area and no problem using the Wi-Fi either. Sharon

RE: Mississippi Roast

Why did I not try this sooner! This is my new best crockpot meal, so many things that can be done with it for meals. Sharon

RE: Groceries for needy family

Think of simple things to fix. Anything that takes time to cook will go to waste. Fresh foods will spoil before they get eaten. I have gone to buy groceries for many of my hospice patients and if a family member does not have the cooking skills it will be wasted. I found that box meals, cans of soup, instant rice work out the best and can vegetables/fruits. Check with local churches too! In our town we have Helping Hands that provide boxes of food. Maybe someone in the office can fix one extra meal for the family. Sharon Sharon

RE: COE campgrounds in central Texas

Lake Texoma should be a great spot for you. I think I heard the Lake is not being affected too bad for the on-going drought there... The Lakes around Wichita Falls are all but dried up... People are Walking way out into the lake bed now... I just heard the North Texas and West Texas has just started FRACKING for oil now. They probably already killed their underground water sources now. Don't see any connection. We have alot of fracking going on in northern Pa and all our lakes are full.Texas lakes are down because of a drought. Thank you for knowing fracking is not the cause of our low lake levels. Sharon
