RE: Bringing kayak with you...

DH does like wishbone51, but he uses pool noodles with PVC pipe inside the noodles and straps it down from front to back and side to side putting the straps inside using cab doors to hold it in place. Been doing this for 10 years with not one problem and times 2 will be on top of the roof. Sharon

RE: Gas station help!

Lesson learn after DH did not pull in to a large open fueling station like I told him to do. DH tells me we have a half tank should be fine. Famous last words. Got down the road only to find it would be miles before the next one. By luck he drove in on fumes at a very small town that the station was open & diesel. Never again no matter what the gauge says he pulls in to top it off. Here in TX some can be far and few, plus being a Sunday. Other times you can get blocked in by other fueling up. Sharon Sharon

RE: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012

Maybe you users of Andersen levelers might find this handy. I used 1/4" rope to make it easy to pull the levelers out when getting off the levelers. These work from either side. DW likes them since she will be pulling the blocks. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w368/BigBird651/2014%20Minnie%20Winnie%20RV/IMG_5701_zpsamlsq5ry.jpg width=640 http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w368/BigBird651/2014%20Minnie%20Winnie%20RV/IMG_5702_zpsyttjg4w9.jpg width=640 DH did that to ours also. Really helps getting them out. Sharon

RE: Rockport Texas

If you do not need FHU's go get a site on the bay at Goose Island. It is a great place to stay and fish right out the door of your camper. You will still be close to town. Sharon

RE: How do you feel about people walking through your campsite?

Not pleased with them doing it and has been done many times. We have been setting out front of the camper and I have 4 dogs that go crazy barking in protecting what is our space. Sharon

RE: Travel Trailer Inspection in Texas

We get ours inspected every year with it being 9,000 lbs. On that I thought it was going to be for cars, trucks on inspection stickers & tags. The local news & DPS was not real clear on how it is done. I went to get my inspection done to find out as I renew my tags it will get inspected for them. I was also told you have 90 days to get it inspected before the tags are due. Will need to find out about the campers inspection too. It is hard to find someone here in Midland that does inspections. Now DH takes the camper to a trucking center for inspection. Sharon

RE: west texas state parks

Abilene would be the best. Lake Colorado City would be fine but the lake is low and no sites on the water from our long drought not fracing. Been to Abilene 1 time and liked it for our 5 day stay. Balmorhea would be my next pick but it is still over 200 miles from Abilene. Big Spring as told by someone else has no camping. No idea what your plans are but the DFW area has lots of state and COE parks to stay at too. Sharon

RE: Cedar Hill State Park

DW and I stayed there last fall. Lots of various sites to choose from. Some longer platforms, some shorter, near water/away from water. Use Google maps to get an idea. If they are like most state parks, if they are not full and you see a different site you like better than the one you are assigned, you can go back and ask to change. They are usually accommodating. One thing I do remember is there were ants all over the place that we had to deal with. Yes! Lots of them, I had forgotten all about the ants around the campsite. Our grandson walk across a very large mound, good thing we had spray we always take with us. Sharon

RE: Cedar Hill State Park

We had site 112 fhu it was on a small hillside. That park has many sites flatter than the one we had. It was one we could see the lake from the outside table and above others sites. Our camper is a 31' and had room for the truck and son to park next to us. I get on Google maps with a park map to see what the area looks like. I have found some of the parks Google has driven through them for pictures of sites. It is a large park and it was our first time. Try this website campsitephotos.com, I was on it last night to see the sites at Ft. Richardson, not sure if Cedar Hill was on it. Sharon

RE: Levelers

The Anderson levelers work great and had not one problems getting the camper level on any surface. Best money ever spent. Sharon

RE: Forts visited or worth visiting

Fort Richardson in Jacksboro Texas. There is a cavalry fort restored from the old western days. Pretty good campground too. DH and I will be leaving on 4/9 for a week and be at the Fort Richardson days. After that will go down to Kimball Bend Park at Lake Whitney for another week of camping. This will be a first for both parks. Sharon

RE: Texas Park Reservations question.

You will get some coupons with the pass to use at any state park, only 1 per visit and no entrance fee charge on visits. Balmorhea is a great park & swimming too. Sharon

RE: Rockport at Thanksgiving

We will be at Goose Island at the end of this coming week. One of the best parks on the coast. Water front is what you want and will enjoy the most. Sharon

RE: Bye, bye storage facility!

A friend of ours build a pull through shop added a drain in the floor to wash the camper. Wish we could get property here, but our property values have really gone up. Sharon
