RE: west texas state parks

Abilene would be the best. Lake Colorado City would be fine but the lake is low and no sites on the water from our long drought not fracing. Been to Abilene 1 time and liked it for our 5 day stay. Balmorhea would be my next pick but it is still over 200 miles from Abilene. Big Spring as told by someone else has no camping. No idea what your plans are but the DFW area has lots of state and COE parks to stay at too. Sharon

RE: Cedar Hill State Park

DW and I stayed there last fall. Lots of various sites to choose from. Some longer platforms, some shorter, near water/away from water. Use Google maps to get an idea. If they are like most state parks, if they are not full and you see a different site you like better than the one you are assigned, you can go back and ask to change. They are usually accommodating. One thing I do remember is there were ants all over the place that we had to deal with. Yes! Lots of them, I had forgotten all about the ants around the campsite. Our grandson walk across a very large mound, good thing we had spray we always take with us. Sharon

RE: Cedar Hill State Park

We had site 112 fhu it was on a small hillside. That park has many sites flatter than the one we had. It was one we could see the lake from the outside table and above others sites. Our camper is a 31' and had room for the truck and son to park next to us. I get on Google maps with a park map to see what the area looks like. I have found some of the parks Google has driven through them for pictures of sites. It is a large park and it was our first time. Try this website campsitephotos.com, I was on it last night to see the sites at Ft. Richardson, not sure if Cedar Hill was on it. Sharon

RE: Levelers

The Anderson levelers work great and had not one problems getting the camper level on any surface. Best money ever spent. Sharon

RE: Forts visited or worth visiting

Fort Richardson in Jacksboro Texas. There is a cavalry fort restored from the old western days. Pretty good campground too. DH and I will be leaving on 4/9 for a week and be at the Fort Richardson days. After that will go down to Kimball Bend Park at Lake Whitney for another week of camping. This will be a first for both parks. Sharon

RE: Forts visited or worth visiting

Lots of neat forts to visit here in TX. We always stop to visit any fort because it is our history. Sharon

RE: Texas Park Reservations question.

You will get some coupons with the pass to use at any state park, only 1 per visit and no entrance fee charge on visits. Balmorhea is a great park & swimming too. Sharon

RE: Rockport at Thanksgiving

We will be at Goose Island at the end of this coming week. One of the best parks on the coast. Water front is what you want and will enjoy the most. Sharon

RE: Bye, bye storage facility!

A friend of ours build a pull through shop added a drain in the floor to wash the camper. Wish we could get property here, but our property values have really gone up. Sharon

RE: Devine, TX

Major Dad, yes we are. My DH is a geologist an will feel at home with all the drilling rigs and traffic. Midland County has had 26 death on the roads from 1/1/14.Besides we try not to pull our camper in San Antonio even though it is our hometown. Always stay on the outskirts when we visit family. They can come to us! I am trying to stay fairly close to Devine for DH to visit with his former boss that he worked for during HS & college. Sharon

RE: Devine, TX

There are 2 parks in Bigfoot. D&G and Kyote. Looks like they cater more to workers but rates seem decent. You could look at them on www.googlemaps.com earth view and zoom in to see what they look like. There is Castroville Regional RV Park in Castroville about 20 miles away that looks good. 20 miles toward San Antonio in Von Ormy is Alamo River RV Ranch. I had not see the 2 parks in Bigfoot on Google maps, but will look again. Thank you. I do realize lots of the parks have lots of oil field works in them. Sharon

Devine, TX

We will be heading down to the coast in early November. Want to stop to see a friend in Devine, TX and looking for a campground in the area. I found one about 21 miles in Hondo at 173 and Hwy 90 that is new. Sharon

RE: done for the year :(

Yep, our camping time has just started here in TX. Will be heading down to the coast in Nov for 3 weeks. Will have to keep an eye on the weather as it has snowed down on the coast during Thanksgiving. Sharon

RE: portable ice maker

I would not like having a bottle setting on top. One thing it would take up space in the camper, for 100$ at other stores I can fill mine up with a pitcher as it gets low. The price of a snow cone machine and ice maker will be cheaper some other place than that. Sharon

RE: How often do you buy new trailer?

Rockwood in 2003 as our first, then realized after 6 months needed a little larger one. In 2004 purchased the Wildcat and still going down the road. Sharon

RE: Using the oven while moving...

You have some that worry about driving with the fridge on and fueling up! Hum! I know people with MH run the oven down the road. If it is summer just think how hot the camper would be. Sharon

RE: Lake Texoma, Eisenhower State Park

Some of the COE parks will show pictures of sites. We have always stayed at Burns Run East with it being a smaller park and some sites with water views. DH and I went over to see Eisenhower SP that did not have water views with all the brush in the way. At BRE we have stayed in sites 9 and 12 that back up to the water. Thou it has been several years how low is the lake? You will like west also for the room between sites. It would be my next pick. Sharon
