RE: Plugging in at home between trips

I stay plugged in.
Battery disconnect that I switch off just to be sure I don't overcharge. Never have, but have heard horror stories, so....
If the TT is sitting for months, I'll switch the battery back on for a couple of days every month or so to keep the battery charged.

RE: slide out toppers

I thought about getting one for our trailer, but Mrs. BossCamper mentioned that I would have to clean out under it to keep spiders from invading the trailer each time we folded camp.
Since I have to use our folding ladder to do that anyway, I decided to skip the expense and possible "gadget" problems later on, and just clean it off before closing the slide.
So ... not necessarily necessary.
Depending on your preferences and situation.

RE: Light-weight Folding Ladders

I use this telescopic ladder (METAL-TECH Ladder) to easily reach the TT top and clean the slide prior to departure. Works great, lightweight and small enough to fit in the front storage.
That thing looks neat. How much is it? approximantly of course.
$200 - $240 here in Canada

RE: Black water jets?

Why ! It certainly does not have to be spotless ! Dump it , rinse it , forget it . Of course there will be those who say it must be surgically clean . But I say why . My sister cleans her tank with every product available while her husband is pacing back and forth waiting so he can take a %%$#%# !
Why? Why not!
I thought the same until I decided to install something similar to the Tornado linked to earlier. I dump the tank only if it's almost full, thinking that's flushing everything because of the rush of water.
WRONG!
After getting home I use the tank flusher ( I have ability to even dump at home if I want) and am always amazed at the amount of paper, and solids that come out while flushing. I flush with the valves closed until I get the tank full about to where the flush nozzle enters the tank, then dump.Repeat till it runs clean. If I were a permanent hookup situation, it might be different, because of ongoing use, but when I park it for weeks between uses, it certainly seems a lot better to get all that out!

RE: Rear Kitchens

Wife thinks she would like a trailer with a rear kitchen. I have heard that trailers with rear kitchens have more problems with appliances due to more vibration.
Is this true or not?
Not

RE: Power Pkg Added by Dealer

You should have no problem with having the dealer install both, as long as you get a warranty with them.
I have the power stabilizers, and they are great!I don't have to run around to all 4 stabilizers, no extra piece of equipment (drill), and as has been said, you can't put too much pressure on one corner or the other.
I wouldn't have another big trailer without a power tongue jack!

RE: Batterys

Yeah .. know what you mean.
I solved this by buying a plastic battery box for about $12.00.
I drilled a couple of holes in the bottom of the box for drainage, and then bolted the box to the trailer battery frame. Now the battery is in there, the strap goes around everything (frame and box) and all the strap really has to do is hold the lid on the battery box. Not so critical to get it so tight as to hold the battery there.
I also screwed the battery boxes down on my trailer except I don't even bother with a strap. My lids just snap on and stay on.
link
Plastic battery boxes are designed to contain battery acid/battery water spills. Drilling holes in them or screwing them into the frame can result in corrosion problems. Battery boxes should be secured to the frame with a strap or straps. I prefer the type shown in a previous post rather than the straps that come with the box. The boxes are about $7-$10 at WalMart depending on the size. :)
I've heard this before, but don't see how drilling holes in the box is any worse than just having the battery sitting there naked! The holes are just to let rain water out that can get in there even with the lid on from driving in rain. The water seems to be able to power in there even with the lid on! The holes keep it dry in there.

RE: Batterys

I don’t have a problem with the positioning… I don’t know where else you would suggest they go… the tongue might be a little longer on mine, it seems to have enough room to work on the batteries…
Agree. And in truth, All the strap has to do is hold the lid on. the battery, sitting in that tray in the A. Ain't goin nowhere anyway, unless the trailer turns upside down. You are not going to bounce it out.
Batteries don't like bouncing/vibration very much. I highly recommend keeping them snug.
Also, loose batteries can walk back and forth, putting their leads/terminals into contact with something grounded. This is bad.
you do know they are sitting loose in the box. the box is not snug around them. Only the box is snugged to the trailer. They can slide around in there.
Unless there's a moveable divider like my battery box. When in place properly, there's not more than 1/2" on all sides of the battery. If it's a major concern, slide some wood shims in around the battery.

Leaves a great little cavity at one end where I installed my battery cut-off switch.
Pictures Please
Can't do pictures of our trailer because it's under wraps. Best I can do is a link to the type of battery box I'm talking about, and the cut-off switch we installed.

RE: Park Models

I think a forum here would be great!
Park models, and the lifestyle has been in the back of our minds for retirement (which is overdue!), but where to locate?
It's not something we've looked into much. Is there a directory with valid reviews somewhere online?
Some input from other forum members that do it would be great!

RE: RV antifreeze in freshwater tank for winterizing and my plan

Go ahead and put pink stuff in your FW tank. It isn't toxic, and if it were that bad with after taste, you would taste it from the lines that you fill and leave pink stuff in all winter.
Of course, if your trailer has a winterizing valve, then buy all means use it! Or put one in if you want to, but it isn't wrong to put it in your tank and pump it through the lines.
Many folks have done just that for years with no ill effects.
I personally would never drink straight from a FW tank anyway, and cold bottled water from the fridge is better any day. We've never noticed any taste in the coffee after properly sanitizing the fresh tank, which should be done anyway at the start of the season.
I think your plan for winterizing is just fine.

RE: Best Interior Height

Check out Gulfstream. We have a Kingsport 28RLS and it has a very high ceiling. I haven't measured, but it must be 7 feet or more. Sharron complains because at 5'4 she can't reach the ceiling lights!

RE: Winterizing and dump valves

You must be buying your antifreeze from a trailer dealer!
I get mine for less that $3.00 and I'm in Canada where everything is more expensive!:D
The LAST place I'd get it is from a trailer dealer selling RV antifreeze! Go to any plumbing store and get plumbing antifreeze. Same stuff, and you'll find it a lot cheaper.
And IMO, I think 5 gal in each tank is a bit of overkill. If you can get it to flow out the drain with one gal, that would be enough to put a bit of the pink stuff against the dump valve, wouldn't it?
And I bet you have a bypass setup on your trailer. I think most do these days. After draining mine, I put 4 gallons in the fresh tank, pumped until I saw some pink coming out of the heater, then closed the bypass valve, and pumped through all my lines till I had pink in all the drains, and I drained a gallon back out of the fresh tank.

RE: Trailer with side bed slide AND L.R. slideunder 29' ?

My current trailer has the box 29'. Haven't measured total incl. tongue.
I want to stay with box length 29' or less.
Thanks .. I'll try to find that model on the net and see how it looks.

Trailer with side bed slide AND L.R. slideunder 29' ?

We're looking for a trailer in the 26 to 29 foot range that has a living room slide, and a side sliding bedroom slide.
We've been told by a couple of dealers that that kind of animal doesn't exist, and everything I've been able to find online that has 2 slides like that are over 30 feet.
My thinking is to get more bedroom space while keeping the trailer length under 29'. We have a 29' trailer now, and would like more bedroom space, but I don't want to go longer.
Anyone know of anything like this?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Dump station comedy jig

Go to a fire/safety supply store. They have heavier disposable gloves that you don't have to be so concerned about tearing. Then watch this Proper removal of disposable gloves (What's the point of wearing gloves if you contaminate yourself taking them off)!
It's one of the first things you learn in a jail environment, which is no doubt as dirty as a dumping station!
Then, to be safe, carry some disinfectant hand cleaner or wash your hands after.

RE: Hitch with undersized bars!

I do not know how your WD hitch is set up , but...
With my hitch I adjust the load on the equalizer by adjusting the number of links to apply tension to it.
Because my Duramax has lots of reserve capacity for my 800 pound (max ) tongue weight and my bars are heavy enough for 1000 pounds I adjust the bars with a lighter tension any way.
I can do this because my HD 2500 does not need as much help as a 1500 would.
If they have the 1200 pound bars that you can test , how about a test drive with a lighter tension on them.
That's one of my points. I'm having to put too much tension on the bars and am (overspringing?) them. with heavier bars, logic says I should have less tension on them to do the same work.

RE: Hitch with undersized bars!

next mistake will be going back to them again and again.
Never happen. All I've gone back to them for is getting them to re-reimburse me for the second set-up I had to pay for while on our first trip!
