RE: Greenbrier Bunker & White Sulphur Springs WV

We did the bunker tour last year and enjoyed it. It is amazing what was done and hidden from the public for 30 years. I have no knowledge of the ownership issue but I'm sure they still do tours; the tours are a huge draw for the resort. The History channel does shows on the Greenbriar regularly and there is much info online about the Greeenbriar as well. Have fun.

RE: CB Radio advice

I would agree with the above posts about the antenna being the most important. Also, have a CB shop adjust the antenna for you (SWR). For factory power it is not mandatory buit it will improve your outfit. I still use mine occassionally when we travel as a group or for short ranges the little hand held walkie talkies work well. They are on a seperate channels from CBs. Good luck.

RE: Lack of hot water

I would guess that 2" of water in a tub is in fact, probably 6 gallons. Think about a 5 gallon bucket poured out in there. Since there is no way you would set a child in scalding hot only water, when you mix in the cold to reach an acceptable temp, there would several more inches of water. Most water heaters of the RV style are not capable of recovering while the water is being used, they take time. I suspect your water temp is set very low or your bypass valve in incorrect, as mentioned above, for you to even have run out hot water only and having added no cold water. That should be scalding hot. Try turning up the temp on the water heater. Also, by using gas and electric when you have hookups, you will speed the recovery time. Also, you might try using a dishpan to do a sponge bath like you probably did when they were a newborn to create a "Navy" tub bath. Just a couple of ideas. If you are interested, my wife has severe rheumatoid arthritis and I installed a 2nd 6 gallon water heater in a previous TT we owned. Let me know if you would be interested in details. Good luck.

RE: What to do in Asheville with kids

If you haven't left yet and still see this...
While I love the natural beauty, kids may not be as interested as adults. To spice up their time, try the Asheville Fun Depot. It is great for kids and especially if it rains. The facility is well mannged. We have taken youth groups there many times. Great idea!!

As mentioned above, the Western NC Nature Center is good too, especially for younger children.
http://www.wildwnc.org/
Mount Mitchell is right up the Blue Ridge Parkway and has a small museum/learning center. Since it is the highest peak east fo the Mississippi River, it is somewhere they should visit just to be able to say they have been there. Take a jacket, it is ALWAYS cool and windy there. Don't make them misearable.
If they like Pizza, try the Mellow Mushroom. It is popular with the older youth through college aged so the younger ones think they are suppossed to like it. They will definately think "cool" here. Pizza is good too. This will not qualify as quiet adult time, but hey, the weekend will be about them.
Hope you enjoy the weekend. It is beautiful part of NC. Good luck.

RE: Tires with most plys but not commercial

Just curious... what is your goal? Load range E tires are rated higher than your truck is rated.

RE: Propane auto-transfer switch

Just as a thought... you might try turning them on and trying to light one of your stove burners to see if there is gas flowing into the pipes even though the valve indicator is inoperative.
Does the valve tank selector handle rotate easily between tanks?
Good luck.

RE: slide-outs: always open or close up when not in use?

We have a TT set up seasonally and leave the slide out all season from April 1 to Oct 31,then close it for the winter. I'm not about to repack every weekend to slide the side in. There are probably pros and cons to either method. Good luck.

RE: can I make sausage gravy ahead of time ?

Yes, but it will probably thicken. Adding a little milk as you reheat the gravy will fix this. In another life, I used to reheat creamed chip beef on toast in this manner.

RE: What I've been doing....our new Harley!

Hi Rhonda, did you sell/trade your bike? I know you were so proud you had ridden by yourself not too long ago. Anyway, good looking new bike. Enjoy. Remember to send Sturgis pics. You promised years ago.

RE: Bank Repo

I would be more afraid of motorhomes than TTs or 5ers because of the engine and transmission. Both esy to hide vandalism in and expensive to repair. I have never bought a repoed vehicle although I have bought several foreclosed houses. Check carefully, "buyer beware", no whining, and allocate a little of the savings to repair the unknown problems likely to occur. If you go in using a little common sense and knowledge, I'm sure there are bagains out there. Good luck.

RE: 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton?

I think most Rvers would say you are pushing the practical limits of a half ton. In my experience, you are at least a ton past my comfort level. If you tow just once with a 3/4 ton you will never go back to a half ton but your question is ride... obviously a half ton will ride better but I consider safety to be important. I think if you compare apples to apples, there is very little price difference. Good luck.

RE: Who has a Sleep Number bed?

Rhonda, as you know Jane has problems with sleeping and positions... we went to a foam mattress. It really cuddles you and doesn't ahve those pressure points. Much cheaper and no snuggling up in the middle problem. Jane loves it. We have ours in the RV and always talk about rplacing our regualr mattress at home. Her tightwad husband just won't replace a perfectly good mattress.
