Hey, those extra two tires are only 10% vestgial; I still use them everytime I go around a corner. :)

Hope you are having a good time where ever you are.
Working in San Antonio this week. Just when I thought most of my traveling days were behind me; they pulled me back in. Saw the Alamo yesterday after work; it was much bigger than I thought. But I would much rather be on I-70 headed to the Rockies in our drw with the camper in the bed and the jeep on the hitch.

Here is what I have decided to try. I can't go wrong keeping the airbags. They would be useful if I ever get a heavier camper, can use them as is for leveling at the campsite and going down the road, and can help to keep the truck at the right attitude. Based upon what most have offered, I will add the Stabile Loads and replace my shocks.
With your camper loaded and 0 pressure in the airbags, how much clearance do you have top and bottom airbag brackets? You may not have enough clearance to air them down enough to fully engage the stablelifts. You may have to remove the airbags to take full advantage of the stableloads and your oem overload springs.

Thanks for your responses. I will first try different pressures, and will include lowering the air to bring the overloads back into play. Sounds like I should be considering Stabiloads either way.
How much rear sag are you willing to live with? With airbags, you can bring the rear of the truck up. With non-adjustable overload springs, spacers, etc, you will have significant rear sag.

I had airbags on out 2001 F-350 hauling a 4k lb camper and I liked them. I generally ran about 90 psig as I recall.
On your rig, you need to test it at different airbag pressures to see what works best. Start out at a high pressure, drive it around some, let 10 psig out and test again. You may find that you cannot run them at zero pressure with the camper in the bed because the upper and lower airbag bracket may come into contact with each other.
Did the dealer install the airbags with seperate air fittings?
Ultimately any srw truck is going to rock around some with a large high CG load in the bed. You do what you can to reduce it to a minimum, but there will always be some.

There is no particle board in northstars AT ALL. The cabinetry is not particle board. Having solid real wood cabinetry is not practical for light campers like northstars.If it's not particle board and it's not real wood, what is it?

Exactly, you get the weight savings of unobtanium at a much lower cost. ;)

One other thing, I would not get those turn-buckles too tight. IMO, a little snug is plenty. Trucks flex; too snug and you may damage something if you get in and ackward situation.

IF we achieve RIP status, does that mean we automatically gain 10 yr status, even if we joined in 2004?
And, I'm betting we have a few with more than one screen name that have ten years worth of input too ... and looks like on that coming up on that date too, in June, close enough?
And curious, why would a poster get kicked off for deleting old posts? That seems a little odd ...
Yes, RIP status equal 10 year status.
Deleting the text out of one old post was not a problem. Going back and deleting the complete text of 100's of posts when you have been warned not to do that was a problem.

After 10+ yrs on this site myself, two site server crash resets, and being "deleted" another 2x by a moderator for "deleting" old posts, I get to live on quietly as a newbie member :W

If you are getting towed out of the mud, you really would never use both hooks
I've helped pull stuck vehicles before where we wouldn't even think about trying to use a single vehicle. We used two vehicles, each with a winch with a block to a single tow hook. Each of those vehicles were anchored to other vehicles to keep them from sliding. That works out to about 34,000 pounds of force which would have easily ripped out a single hook. And we still were thinking of pulling a third winch line to the stuck vehicle but a little bit of patience did the trick.
That's what I was thinkin'. If 2k lbs of pull will get you unstuck, you was never really stuck at all. :) :) :)
I've seen two cables pullin' on a stuck rig with the pulling rigs bumpers up against big trees to keep them from dragging and the dang cables so tight you start to wonder just how close you want to be to this catastrophe in the making. :) :) :)

Asking because I removed my tow hooks and replaced them with hard mounted 2" receiver tubes. A tow hook (or two) is one thing they can hold, but why would I ever need two?

You can't have too many tow points. I have 2 D-rings & 2 hooks on front and 2 D-rings on back. Have used all of them at one time or another.

Ditto. In most cases, that is correct.
Most people ask when they realize they are in that gray area where its possible to haul their camper on an SRW, but may not make good sense to do so.
