RE: Happi jac issue

I would give Happijac some time to respond. I have had excellent service from them when I called. I sent my jacks back to them and they sent out new jacks minus the motors. I had one motor that sounded bad so sent that also and they rebuilt it and sent all back to me. One jack got damanged in shipment so I called and they sent another out to me and then I returned the damanged one. I also had one of my levers that busted at the same time in shipment and they shipped the upper end (all the gears and everything but I just needed the lever) so I now have some spare gears in case I have this problem. What I have been doing is I carry a 18V drill with me all the time and I got a bolt that fits the Happijacs and instead of using the slow motors. I unloack them and use my drill. On speed seting 2 it really cranks them down fast. If I need to crank them down more I switch to speed 1. This is so much faster and quiter than using the jack motors. I guess I'm saving my jack motors for the next owner of the camper:) The motors well be new but the jacks well probably be wore out.

RE: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......

Well, Monday morning the service manager and tech came to our site at the campground and hooked up their equipment and I started the truck and it purred like a kitten. So they think it was just a fluke or a rock that dropped when they took the belt off. So after much discussion between the wife and I we decided to head out and continue on our trip. So yesterday we left Kalispell, MT and arrived in Radium Hot Springs, BC last night. Then this morning we left and are spending the night in Hinton, AB. We went through Kotenany Park then into Baniff and into Jasper. We had a very nice trip in fact I got a high of 12.6 MPG on Icefield Parkway. This was even after following some people that had trouble pulling the hills and I was stuck behind them. All is good and we well be leaving in the morning heading for Dawson Creek. :)Glad that is was not trip ending !! Do you have a gasoline engine in your truck ? Just Wondering :B Just got on the net, we are now in Dawson Creek and the wind is blowing. It rained and the wind blew most of the way here. Yes it is the 6.2 gasser.

RE: Swing out brackets hinge

After cleaning them up I would spray the pins and down the inside with Slip Plate. This is a spray graphite and this is what Super Glide 5th wheel hitchs recommends for their slide hitches. I have used it for other things also as it does not colloct dust. Spray one coat and let it dry then spray a second coat and let it dry then put it back together. Really slippery stuff. ON EDIT: Here is a link for Slip Plate

RE: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......

I thought on the rock also and I'm sure we'll be checking that. The tech did take off the belt and checked for any loose or to tight pulleys and all were fine. I don't know if he started the engine with the belt of or not but good thought. Thanks

RE: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......

I would normally agree with the belt but as the tech and I stood there and listened to it it sound like a loose nut or bolt getting kicked up and rattling around and then it would fall back down and then repeat itself. The squeal I would agree with most times is just a belt. The alternator should not have had a big load on it as we just drove the truck the day before and we are in a campground so we have power to the camper so the camper batteries are fully charged. I can't trade it in here as I don't have the title for it. The tailgate for the truck is home as I carry a slide in camper and the tailgate is one with the camera in it and the step assist. I also have special tires and wheels on it that I don't want to go with the truck. Then it all has to be set up to carry the camper. Lots of reasons why it can't be traded here and carry on. We'll see what happens on Monday morning, I hope they can locate the problem so we can carry on.

RE: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......

We are delayed in Kalispell. We broke down camp and got ready to leave this morning and I started the truck up and it was making a squealing sound and it sounded awful. We headed right to the Ford garage. They looked at it and heard some of the noise but then it settled down and they couldn’t find anything. So back to the campground. Ford tech and service writer well come to the campground Monday morning to see if it only happens when it is cold. They are bringing some test gear with them. If they can find it then if needed they well FedEx emergency the parts and would have them on Tuesday to replace. If they can’t find it then we are heading home as I don’t trust the truck to break down somewhere on the road to Deadhorse or Invuk and have to be towed. The truck only has 15.000 miles on it. If nothing can be found and we make it back home I’ll be buying a new truck as I won’t have any confidence in this one anymore. So here we set. Hope you all have good luck

RE: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......

Well we are on our way. We left home on Monday 5/27/13 and am presently in Kalispell, MT. We arrived in Kalispell on Wednesday evening. We have some friends here that we wanted to see so spent a few days here. We well be leaving here tomorrow morning and hitting the border at Eureka. We have had some real miserable weather getting to MT. On 2 different days we had to stop and wait out the rain and wind as you couldn't see to drive in it. It has rained on us every day since we left. Hope it clears up some.

RE: Lance or Artic Fox or ???

I am on my 2nd Northern Lite. The same model each time except the new one is a little nicer. Nothing worng with the first and I was really stupid that I sold it. If you are looking for a slide then the NL is not for you as they make no units with a slide. I have also had an AF 1140 and again they are a good camper and I didn't have any problems with it either but they are a heavy camper. Their dry weight is about the same as my NL when I'm wet and ready to go camping.

RE: 2003 Outfitter Apex 9.5 Value

If you can fix it if you could get it home make an offer that the seller haul it to your place on his truck. Pay for his expenses and a little for his time and have him haul it to your place and then you can work on it till you can make it fit your truck. Isn't that a fairly simple solution if you really like and want this camper I'm sure you can make it happen.

RE: 2003 Outfitter Apex 9.5 Value

This is quite common, just use some plywood in the bottom of your bed to raise the camper above that curved area of your bed. There have been a lot of people that have done that on here. It sounds like a once in a life time buy, I would see if you can't make it fit if you really want it.

RE: New TC and Truck what it all added up to weight and handling

My F350 LB with a 6.2 gasser has a GVWR of 11200# and with my camper loaded I'm 11500# so a little over my GVWR. I went to 19.5 just to have some extra room on the tires. My tires are 4800# rated 19.5 and the Vision wheels are 4500# rated. So now I have right at an extra 2000# extra capacity. This makes me feel better than being right on or over the tire ratings. This is IMO

RE: Cold vs. hot tire pressure

I don't check every morning. I get in and start up the truck and wait for the tire pressure monitor to tell me what pressure my tires are at. If I have a low tire then fill it up and see if I can find a problem with it. That is the reason I have a TPMS is so I can know what my pressure is even when I'm running down the road. Just press the button and rotate through all of the tires once in a while and I can keep an eye on all of them without pulling out a tire guage and try to run along side the truck trying to get it on the valve stem so I can see the pressure in each tire as I'm moving. :B I know smart a**. That is the reason I buy these toys is to be able to check on things going down the road. I always run the TPMS on my trailers to keep and eye on them and actually my new truck has the stock TPM on it but I don't like it near as much as my Doran system. It just tells me I have a low tire but not which one nor does it tell me how low it is. They are a very cheap setup. For a few bucks more they could of put in the same system that I run form an outside vendor.

RE: 2Questions: diff Amp services & Where do I get a sway bar?

A 15/20 amp is a normal outlet like you have in your house. You would have limited items that would work in your TC on this amperage. The next step up is a 30 amp. This is what is typically seen in a campground. This is the normal circuit for a smaller TT and a TC with one A/C and less electrical demand. Then there is the biggie 50 amp. This is usually used with the bigger 5ers and MHs. It actually provides 2 50 amps worth of service meaning that it well supply 100 amps to the unit. I don't know of any TC that uses this type of service. Now if only 50 amp service is available there are adapters that you can plug into and allows you to use 30 amps cord from your TC. There is an adapter that also allows you to use a 15/30 amp outlet but it is still only going to provide 20 amps max power. Hope this helps.

RE: Adjusting tire pressure for load

Take a peek at you driver side door panel and I'll bet that they have tire pressure there. Normally on a dually 80# is way to much on the rears and the manuf probably calls for somewhere around 60 PSI on the rears and this is for a full loaded truck to the max GVWR. I agree with using a tire inflation chart for the weight carried but you do need to spend the 9 to $10 to get the weight of your rig and not use someone elses and guess what your camper weighs loaded ready to go camping with everybody and all your stuff in it. Then you well have an idea what pressure to run with the pressure charts. And there is a difference what people run in a SRW and a DRW so taking what people say when they are running a SRW does not work for you. It would be nice if people that are responding would keep their responses to a DRW as that is what the OP has. This is IMO

RE: Cold vs. hot tire pressure

Don't worry about it the tire manuf have taken this into account when they build their tires. They know the tire well heat up in the summer but they recommended tire pressure is to be set cold. So set them cold and then don't worry about them unless you have them overloaded then this can cause them to heat up also. When I had my 5th wheel on a 80 PSI tires on it I would see tire pressures in the 90# range also when I started with 80 in the tire and the my tires were not overloaded. I run a Doran TPMS and like to watch it also.

RE: looking for tires

Hey butch50..I just weighed my Adventurer dry was 3060.I traveled close to 14,000 miles with the previous Nitto Terras rated 3750 lbs. on current truck mods and 17 " Forged Aluminum rims loaded. Truck hauled TC like a beast ,never even engaged the bottom overloads with airbags at 5 psi. My truck has a 1 ton axle from factory. Had some minor sway but tried some homemade stable loads with stihl plastic wood wedges and zip ties. Really helped with sway. Will order stable loads for bottom overloads soon. I will weigh truck/camper fully loaded and post weight. If I really need 19.5s visions I will buy them but 3 custom wheels shops told me my forged aluminums, last shop told me they were Alcoa, were strong enough. My Nitto Terras lasted me 45,000 including my last camper too..A 1996 11' shadow cruiser which had a dry weight of 2400 lbs and loaded really engaged my bottom overloads with only 5 psi. did not use airbags back then since they were not plumbed separately at the time. I have to go by my past experience with having no real problems with this wheel/tire set up. OK but as you stated your camper is 3060 dry and you have a 86Fb and Adventurer states that your dry weight is 2205#. The OP has a 106 that has a brochure dry weight of 3129#. So if we take the difference of your dry from the brochure to your weighed dry weight of 3060# minus your brochure dry weight is 855# heavier. So if we take that 855# and add it to the OP dry weight we would come up with a dry weight of 3984# before the OP added anything to it if equipped with similar equipment as yours. So his weight is almost a 1000# more than yours. I don't know how close his numbers are to what I have but I would figure that he would have AC and other options that increase the dry weight.

RE: looking for tires

With a camper dry weight of 3129# from their web site (which we all know is a joke) you might want to look at 19.5 tires and wheels. I put them on my F350 11200# GVWR rated truck and they are rated at 4850# tires and the Vision wheels are rated at 4500#. This gives me a cushion that I wanted as I didn't want to be on the edge of what I had. The tires are 16 ply rated trucks and the truck handles my camper very well. My cmaper is not as heavy as yours is. Wet and loaded I'm right at 3700# Just a thought.

RE: RV Net Forums & Other Forums

I read RV.net first, TC thread, then look at the Alaska and boondocking threads. Then take a peak at NATOCA, then move over to the Northern Lite forums and read there.
