RE: Flat screen tv attachment

My TV has two rails that are mounted onto the wall, then two brackets that secure to the TV with a hook at the top, which hooks over the top rail, then when the bottom part of the bracket meets the bottom rail, there's a screw that you have to screw in to keep the TV from coming off or sliding on the rail. I had to use a camera to take pics behind the TV so I could find out where to unscrew them. Colossal Pain. Good Luck.
I didnt think to take a pic back there. I did, got a visual of what i was looking at, and plugged it straight in.
Thanks a million man!
I gotta credit the Wife with that one. After standing there staring at me struggling with it, she mentioned it.

RE: Holy Cow, What a week

That's exactly what we're thinking with the storage unit. We have as little as 11 months to as much as 23 months left here at which time we would have the option to move back into a S&B house, or keep on living in the RV. If we decide to move back into S&B, we still have our big ticket items and some basics so we don't have to sell the camper to get back into living in a house.
Thank you all for the awesome responses. I'm getting a lot of good advice from this message board.

RE: Holy Cow, What a week

Thanks for the dialogue all. :)
Our plan is to use the surplus housing allowance to really get the V-Cross paid down and before I retire trade it in for one of those monster 5th wheels and a bigger T/V and then hit the road. We're kind of wanting to keep the basics in storage in case this whole thing flops and we end up working again.
Some tough decisions ahead. We found where we're going to live after we leave here today. We went to a campground that got good reviews and talked to a couple of guys that were hanging out in front of a 5th wheel. The guy in the 5th wheel had been there for 4 years and the other guy had been there on and off for 18! That sounds like some good vouching. They said it stays nice and quiet and the owner doesn't put up with silliness or people making a mess around their trailer.
We're both pretty excited to try this out.

RE: Holy Cow, What a week

We were thinking the same thing. We've got the opportunity to try fulltiming on a military salary for a while but want to keep some sort of irreplaceable stuff till we figure it out.

RE: Holy Cow, What a week

You would recommend cutting everything out that we can't put in the camper then? We have some paintings from the mother in law and some other stuff that we just don't want to sell/donate. Maybe putting them in someone's attic till we decide to call the fulltiming quits?

Holy Cow, What a week

Well Jess and I have been focused on full-timing after I retire from the military. I'm within 6 years of retirement and just found out that the house we're renting is not going to be available to us after September. We've decided to full-time a little earlier than initially anticipated. We have a 29' V-Cross, which is not what we intend to keep for full timing and it's just Jess and I and a dog. We live near Virginia Beach, so the fulltime camping opportunities are good. We've also checked with the local military campgrounds that are offering us some good options. This is kind of "all in" approach, but we're prepared to liquidate the house and move into the trailer, but we absolutely know there will be more to it than that. We have a storage unit for things that we just can't/don't want to sell in case this doesn't work out.
We're kind of freaked out and really looking forward to it at the same time.
Any advice for the newbies would be welcome. I've comed the internet and have answers to many of our questions, but if y'all can think of some immediate type things to think about, we're all ears. :)
Thanks and we look forward to joining the ranks of the Full Timers.

RE: What Can We Tow? What to Buy?

I bought a 4000 lb Skyline Koala 21CS and towed it home with my 2009 Nissan Xterra. The X had a towing capacity of 5000 lbs and I can tell you, uncomfortable was an understatement for that ride home. I got lost, went through two tunnels, had an 18 wheeler have a blowout in front of me (first time I locked the trailer brakes up), rain, wind and fog...just to get home. I drove the Xterra to Charlotte the next day and traded the X in for a Chevy Silverado 2500. WAY overkill for that trailer, so I went and bought a 29' V-Cross :D.
Now I'm sitting pretty. Enough truck with enough trailer.
Having too little truck to tow your trailer is no way to start your weekend. All you will do is think about how much of a drag it's going to be to tow it back home...then you have to go back to work Monday on top of all that. :(
Go way lighter than your owners manual says and you'll be way happier. I kind of wish we had done that in the first place...I loved that XTerra. But I'm really happy now too.

RE: Lessons we've learned over the years

Man those are some great lessons.
Only one I can contribute (so far)... Our black tank had been showing full for the previous two trips even though everything had drained out after both trips. Figured something had been stuck on the sensor. I read some stuff that said try ice cubes or make sure the tank is completely full before emptying. Well I decided to try that latter one and before we unhooked from the campsite, we opened the toilet and fill'er up. I get to the dump station and I'm making casual conversation with the fella across from me as I'm hooking up. I stick the end of the hose into the ground, cover it with the rock, and pull the handle all the way out. I had never filled the black tank on our trips thus far with this camper, so I guess I misjudged the pressure. Almost instantly, the poo water starts seeping out around the hole and filling up the spill reservoir. I had already stood back up and looked at the rising tide and said "Oh S(*&" and the guy across from me goes "Yep". I shut it off and let things settle down and continued with no further incident.

RE: "Dog Dooty is YOUR duty!"

What a great thread. I always pick up my dogs poo. Sometimes I even pick up other dogs poo when I'm at the park I like to walk in if there's big piles near where I like to walk on a circuit. We've gotten the "What the heck" look from people before when our female Golden Retriever squats to pee. To dog owners, a female squatting to pee and hunching over to poo are way different looking operations...but they can look the same to the non-dog owner. We haven't had too much of a problem in our favorite campground with anonymous piles.
Our dog is very predictable/regular, so we usually have her go before a walk so we don't have to pick it up with a critical audience watching.

RE: Irresponsible Dog Owners (Rant)

Thanks for the advice folks. I can imagine this is a bit of a polarizing situation. Last weekends situation was an accident, but unfortunately the issue is still that someone's dog is coming after us. I'm not going to resort to carrying my pistol around the campground yet, but a stick and a squirt gun with the vinegar and water sounds like it might be the ticket to try out first.
Thanks again all. I appreciate it.

RE: Irresponsible Dog Owners (Rant)

Nice to know I'm not the only one around bothered by the practice of illegally letting your dog walk off leash in a leash rule area. So far my dog has been friendly with every person and dog she's encountered...but I'm still not about to let her run around off leash. I'm going to try the "Mine's Not" line if I have to this weekend.

RE: Irresponsible Dog Owners (Rant)

The majority of people with dogs are responsible IMO, and there's just a few bad apples.
I figured that. I've never really paid attention to people with dogs until now...hopefully we'll get into a good batch this weekend.
People not picking up after their dogs is a whole other topic lol.

RE: Irresponsible Dog Owners (Rant)

First off, I would highly recommend that you refrain from 'kicking' a bulldog in the face-unless you really want to loose a foot.
You're right there. :) I'm very glad that some rational part of my brain was operating well enough to make me NOT do that.
I guess I'll look into the spray. It's temporary and harmless after a while.
I can't stand the thought that someone else thinks they know me well enough to assume that we are okay with a strange dog running up on us that "just wants to play".
I'm hoping that this weekend will be event-free...I don't want to have to start expecting that this is going to happen every time we go out.

Irresponsible Dog Owners (Rant)

How do you folks deal with someone who has their dog illegally off leash? We had a pair of American Bulldogs charge us and our 7 month old Golden Retriever last weekend. We spoke with the owner later in a more controlled setting than the initial meeting and he said we just walked up the moment the dogs weren't leashed...okay. We were glad he came by and apologized, but it still scared the heck out of us. We called the camp registration office (immediately after the incident), but they were already closed and it didn't occur to us to go talk with the camp hosts. It was evening and the people were leaving the next morning anyway so we just let it go and stayed away from that area.
Trust me, the last thing I want in the world is to have to get violent with someone else's dog, but it's certainly not my fault if they fail to control their animal. I have done some research on what might work in the situation from last weekend and I'd like to say I will have the presence of mind to yell "No...SIT!" and hope it works, but my first inclination with the bulldog was to kick his mouth around to the other side of his face. I really don't remember what happened in the moments after the dog got to us, but I ended up running down the road with my 50 lb dog over my head...which, admittedly, is kind of a funny image now that I think about it. :)
Mace...a big stick...don't walk "through" the campground...any advice to avoid this situation again would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for letting me vent.

RE: Small TT (<25') w/slide, full queen?

The Skyline Koala 21CS has all of those except for a full queen. It's a short queen which we replaced with a memory foam mattress. It's so comfortable for me (6'3") that we tow it when visiting family and sleep out in the driveway/yard.
It's got a couch on the slide out, and the sky-light in the shower so I can stand up straight.
Good Luck.

RE: Trailer lock

I use this: (search "trailer tongue lock ccp" and you'll pull plenty of them up)
http://www.boaterbarn.com/images_products/fulton_optic_coupler_lock_fits_31204big.jpg
Charles is right...if some hood is out to get your stuff, they'll get it. It's a crappy situation...but that's the way it goes.
I think with the coupler lock, the padlock on my tongue latch, and the fact that there's 20 trailers around mine with no locks on them at all greatly increases my chances of not being a victim...and that's all you can really do.
G'luck!
