RE: no power inside my 1994 Fleetwood Tioga class C

I have the same vehicle. I thought Jim Shoe nailed it. Under the hood, under the solenoid that isolates the batteries is a small blade type fuse. Pull it out and check it.

RE: Bought a Blue Flame Propane heater

Water is a byproduct of burning propane. It does seem counter productive to have to open a window doesn't it?
We have found that just lighting the oven pilot or setting it on low takes the nip out of the air when its really cold.

RE: NMOHVA Files Lawsuit Against Santa Fe Nat. Forest TMR

NMOHVA should have tried to educate their members before the fact.
It is highly unlikely that NMOHVA members are the problem. It's the ones that don't belong to the group that are the problem. For the most part only responsible people belong in these types of organizations.
Only thing the TMR is doing is preventing respectful citizens from enjoying the forest while the idiots continue to do what they do.
Agree.
If the USFS was really concerned they would have searched for some middle ground. They would have warned the groups of the imminent closures. Now areas will be condensed and and over used. This applies to the degradation of native species as well. Now we will all sit around and say: "remember when...."

RE: San Francisco, Anyone?

stevekk- keep in the right lane on the bridge, turn right as soon as you can and you will wind through the presidio. Nice views btw. After you go thru the golf course your heading downhill and turn right on Geary. It swings by the Cliff House and turns left and voila! You are now back on Highway 1 south. enjoy.

RE: Dually wheel extensions

I also use the braided ones with no problems. BUT- you mentioned clipping them to the hubcaps. BAD idea. I've lost 3 of my hub caps/ wheel covers and shudder to think what would happen if they were attached to the valve extenders.
I just drilled and tapped a small hole in the rim and fastened them with an 'L' bracket.

RE: Miles per day/hours on the road

Have you considered flying then renting an RV when you get there?
We don't like doing extended days driving, doing 4 or 5 hours. We can add an hour or 2 if we share driving. I have driven with a friend who likes to drive and just drives until he gets to his destination, stopping only when necessary, but it takes a lot of preparation and a competent navigator.

RE: Sequoia NF Plan Revision Meetings

Dan the Stanislaus recently had a timber sale a mile from my house. They did a selective timber harvest, masticated (ground up) the brush and gathered the slash and hauled it off and used it to generate electricity to run the sawmill. Very encouraging. I see mountain quail and hawks now that didn't use the area before. The trees left look quite robust.

Sequoia NF Plan Revision Meetings

If You use the SQF and want your concerns heard speak now or forvever hold your peace:
CALIFORNIA - Sequoia NF Announces Forest Plan Revision Public Meetings
Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,
The Sequoia National Forest is one of three national forests in the Pacific Southwest Region of the Forest Service to begin the process of revising its 1988 Land and Resource Management Plan (Forest Plan), implementing the new 2012 National Forest System Planning Rule. The Planning Rule directs that Forest Plans will be science-based and developed collaboratively with stakeholders who are interested in the management of national forests.
The Forest Service is conducting two workshops for anyone interested in learning more about the Forest Plan Revision process:
• Thursday, February 7th, Forest Supervisor's Office, Porterville, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
• Friday, February 8th, Oddfellows Hall, Kernville, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Each workshop will consist of presentations and opportunities for questions regarding the Forest Plan revision process. An initial orientation will discuss what a Forest Plan is and what it is not, and will introduce the Collaboration and Communication Plan. The second part of the workshop will give participants opportunities to interact with members of the planning team. These workshops will be facilitated by Laura Kaplan of the Center for Collaborative Policy.
The Sequoia National Forest is committed to open dialogue through collaboration, improving transparency, and strengthening the role of public involvement in the forest planning process.
For more information about the workshops or the planning process, visit www.fs.usda.gov/sequoia.
As always, call or email if you have any questions or comments.

RE: I need the RV communities help!

14,520 here.
Sorry but with all the closures of public land I have to side with the use-what-you-have crowd. I've seen first hand how impossible it is to cleanup a military training facility. Plus I find it a stretch to think our national security would ever be at risk if they didn't have this area to use. Ever been to Nevada?
Good luck with the petition and thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Believe it or not the rest of us might help you pay the bill. California has a program to help owners get their vehicles to pass smog. See if you qualify:

RE: Sea Foam

I've heard mechanics say Seafoam works too well. I wouldn't use too much.
As far as ethanol- it's hygroscopic, it absorbs moisture. You CAN remove it from your fuel. It's quite easy. Just use larger containers than shown in this video: linky

RE: It Ain't Over 'Till.....

Well said pnichols.
What the closures also do is restrict winter camping. Around here many of the campsites are far too hot to use in the summer yet sites that would make great winter sites are closed and locked off. These sites have no weed/mud/road maintenence issues as they are paved and right on a major highway. What they are- managed by a subcontractor. If the subcontractor can't make his fees they close it to everyone! Who's is it anyway?

Dahkota have you looked at a Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM)? Not sure where you're at but fully 90% of our roads are closed right now. You can't get there unless you want to walk.

foliver I think you may be on to the key that opens the gates. The ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) is not being met by the USFS when they lock gates but leave a ladder for us to crawl over the barbed wire. Time for more action and investigation.
It appears the lawsuit favors those who want more restrictions. SPEAK UP, you may never get another chance.
Nick, be careful what you wish for.

RE: It Ain't Over 'Till.....

While I shudder to think of what might be next I have to agree on that point. I can't agree on the 'environmentalist's are reason' view tho as I really don't have first hand experience. If Arizona's Center for Biological Diversity gets more involved I'm afraid the gloves will have to come off.
From what I see the common sense approach used in the mid 20th century still has merit. Although OHV's have stretched the bounds more than a little. It is refreshing that they are leading this fight but then IMHO they bear the responsibilty.
Here, in the Stanislaus, the forsets products management is, again IMHO, top notch. However bringing in tons and tons of boulders to close off an area when a $15 lock would have sufficed leaves me wondering. Also creating berm after berm to close a bad road when it could have been graded easily causes me question their objectives. The main issue from the USFS's approach leaves a very large elephant in the room they are not addressing- grazing. The cornerstone of their defense is the unwanted spread of weeds, yet they don't address the major cause.
Keep the conversation alive, it's our resourse. They are just being paid to manage it.

It Ain't Over 'Till.....

It seems numerous lawsuits are popping up against the USFS in regard to the Travel Management Plans and how they were drafted. I don't drive a OHV, unless you consider a Jeep one, but I sure am glad they have organized and are calling the Forest Service to task on their road closure procedure. Personally I like to see pristene forests and it disturbs me to see trash and off road damage done by careless individuals. I don't however support unnecessary closures and 'defacto wilderness'.

Recreation Advocates React to Stanislaus NF Court Decision
Sacramento, CA (January 8, 2013) -- The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California issued a decision on January 4, 2013, that found a legal flaw in the 2009 motorized travel management decision issued by the Stanislaus National Forest. Judge Kimberly Mueller has set a hearing on February 15 to consider remedies.
The Court ruled in favor of the Forest Service and recreational intervenors on many claims in the case, including challenges to the range of alternatives and cumulative impacts under the National Environmental Policy Act. However, the Court found lacking the agency's discussion of how it sought to "minimize" specified effects of continuing motorized access as required by agency regulations. While the Court did not make a finding that damage has occurred or is illegally occurring under the challenged decision, the Court concluded "...the Forest Service has not made the required showing that it minimized environmental impacts as required by" its travel management rule.
Paul Turcke, counsel for the recreation group intervenors, states, "We are in the process of reviewing the decision. An appropriate remedy will focus on the manner in which the agency properly conducts any omitted steps in the process, which may but does not necessitate any particular change to the designated network of motorized routes on the Stanislaus Forest. We will continue to advocate for properly managed motorized access at future proceedings before the court and the agency."
John Stewart, Resources Consultant for California Association of 4 Wheel Drive Clubs, states, "The Stanislaus NF engaged in a public process to determine a sustainable system of routes to meet forest needs as required and solicited the public in an open process according to established rules."
The recreation intervenors led by the California Association of 4 Wheel Drive Clubs, including the BlueRibbon Coalition and the AMA District 36 Motorcycle Sports Committee, will continue to advocate for public access to public lands.

RE: NMOHVA Files Lawsuit Against Santa Fe Nat. Forest TMR

rexlion, you need to look at the seasonal closures. The bulk of CNF roads are closed from 1/1 to 5/1 each year. Others closed as per the table. Here the roads just close and open 2 weeks earlier. Personally I feel they used too broad a brush. They aren't going to change the maps every year. Change will happen glacially.
The dispersed camping rules are quite lax compared to ours. You get 150 to 300'. We get 30'. How's that for conformity?

Time for Roof Maintenence

It's time for me to recover my 21' Class C again. I did it 5 years ago with liquid EPDM? Pretty sure that's what it was. Now I see remnants of EPDM sheets on Ebay and wonder if I might go that route. I realize I'd have to remove all the trim strips and although its quite a job I resealed the front curved strips last years and it wasn't too bad.
So my questions: Has anyone used the sheets before on a reroof? Would you do it again?
Where would be the most economical place to purchase a liquid product?
Thanks in Advance-
C-dad
