RE: identifying a tuned used diesel TV

One decent giveaway is to look for signs of a boost gauge or pyro was installed. I would look under the hood at the turbo piping and the exhaust manifold for plugs or newly replaced parts. Aftermarket exhaust is almost a dead giveaway.

RE: Another TT accident

The truck in the photo is big enough, if I do the rigging and the driving. Which model Toyota truck are they talking about(specifically)? I'm a GMC guy, don't know Toyotas. In GMC speak, you are saying you would hitch a 32ft TT to a GMC Canyon. Not me.

RE: Its not that hard to leave no trace

Everyday a large trash bag is one of the first things that go up and one of the last things to go down at my camp sites. One comes out when I am making coffee and it goes in the dumpster right before I head for bed. I don't understand those that do not pick up after themselves, but I do try to do my part and pick up trash when I see it.

RE: what pressure to blow lines out?

I use 20psi, that's what was recommended from the dealer. Has worked so far.

RE: Is my WDH adjust properly?

Please note that I am a former Titan owner and was very satisfied with the truck except for towing a 30ft 8000lb TT. That about sums it up :) Seriously, what does it feel like when towing? Mine was very squirly until I added airbags and E range LT tires. The squirrel was somewhat gone from the rear end of the truck, but the sway from the trailer was not. I did not feel the braking was adequate even when the brake controller was obviously working well. I hope your experience is different. Basically it was too much trailer for my truck. After going with a 2500HD CC LB, my towing issues were gone and my trips were very comfortable.

RE: Scientific Wave Test Results

That is funny considering I have owned a Jeep Wrangler and a Harley. I almost feel weird not waving now that I don't have either.

RE: Looking at a new truck to me

With out a lot of information on the truck (4x4, bells and whistles, condition), around here probably 10-15k. I was looking for one for a short time but could not find one affordable with under 200k miles and that was in 2008. From what I had read they were the best engine ever produced. I did some reading on ford forums and found they also have their issues, just like any other truck. I think most compare them to the 6.0, so they probably are the best ever. :) I am not steering you away from a 7.3, just don't expect it to be totally trouble free.

RE: What do you do while camping?

My entire camping trips are spent wrangling my 2 year old son. :) That's about it....

RE: Towing Issues with new trailer & Hitch (Reese) - scale update #2

I just want to point out that this is a cool thread to read. Op asks for help, he receives help and actually uses that help. OP updates the thread with what he finds after loading everything up twice and heading several miles for the weights. I assume it took some time to hitch then weigh, then unhitch then weigh, then weigh some more. :) Several people take time out of their day to help OP safely transport his family. Good job to everyone involved!!!!!!

RE: hurricane roof repair

I am not sure what to recommend at this point. It might be time for a pressure test. Some RV repair places offer a service where they pressurize the inside of the camper and spray down the outside with soapy water to find any leaks.

RE: hurricane roof repair

There is a place where the upper cap meets the rubber roof. Have you inspected that well?

RE: hurricane roof repair

The pictures certainly help. I would look at removing that horizontal trim and looking behind there. Most likely there is a butyl tape that the screws go through to seal. You could either replace the butyl or put eternabond under the trim. Then re-install the trim and use Dicor to seal the edges again. Make sure to use a sealant like Dicor that is made to stick to fiberglass. While I was in there, I would probably check out those vertical trim pieces as well.

RE: hurricane roof repair

Dicor also make a lap sealant for vertical surfaces that doesn't run like the roof sealant. That might be a solution. This was going to be my recommendation. I used it when I resealed the outside shower. I used new butyl tape, then the Dicor lap sealant. Maybe you could post up a picture, it would give us a better idea of what you are working with. I forgot to mention, I used masking tape around the outside shower when I used the Dicor. I am terrible and laying down a bead.

RE: Tow vehicle suggestions needed

My 05 Chevy CCLB 4x4 2500HD had a much better turning radius than my dad's 04 Ford ex cab long bed 4x4 F-250. I think the difference was strait axle vs. independent front suspension.

RE: Chemicals in holding tanks necessary?

Had some dear friends that had 18 cats in the house. They didn't smell either. That is what they thought. They just got used to that odor after a while. I never mentioned it because I didn't want to embarrass them. I just never visited them much. I did deliveries for Best Buy for 2 years. I probably went into 12 houses a day for 5 days a week. There was only one house in all that I was very surprised to see a cat, I couldn't smell anything cat related at all. With all those houses, there were some stinkers!! Sorry off topic. On Topic, I use the geo method. Calgon water softener and laundry detergent. I guess they are chemicals but they are not harsh by any means. I have looked everywhere and can't find the calgon water softener...in California. Where do you buy it? Try Walmart or go to Amazon.com or Walmart.com. Our local Walmart does not have it but I was about 30 miles from home and just happen to stop at a Walmart and they had it in stock. I grabbed a few bottles. I buy it at my local Dillons/Kroger grocery store. It's in a white bottle by the laundry detergent.

RE: used 5th wheel

I don't have specifics on that model, but look at it just like any other camper. Open every storage place, step or push hard on the flooring there, push up on the roof inside upper cabinets, anywhere you see a blemish push or prod around. I was looking at a similar unit and opened the back upper cabinet in the bunkhouse, I saw signs of rot and could almost push the rotten wood up through the roof. Everything else was clean, but it had obvious issues to me, the dealer acted like they didn't have a clue.

RE: A heart felt thank you to T/C forum members

I looked at Google and tried to figure out where the I-40 cooridor was, no luck. If you are traveling through Wichita, KS I have a driveway you are welcome to park in. I will have a home cooked meal and a young family to share as well. Thank you for your service and good luck on your adventure!

RE: Chemicals in holding tanks necessary?

Plenty of water is the ONLY holding tank chemical that is NECESSARY. Without sufficient water NO chemical will keep them working properly. I read about people using everything from bleach, dish soap, bruce floor wax, fabric softener and water softener and septic treatments. Water is the only common denominator of the ones that work. You forgot white bread :)
