RE: Dual cam, cam arms

There is nothing to lose that the kids could touch except maybe the little clips for the snapup brackets.
Which are pretty easy to lose if you drop them in six inches of leaves then kick them around a bit before you notice the clip is missing! Don't ask me how I know! ;)
I keep an extra pair of these in my tool box now... just in case.

RE: Camping with kids - buying a new TT - bunks or not?

I'm a huge fan of the bunk house models and we are on our second one. We have three girls that now are 12, 15 and 17 and most of the time we still ave all three of them with us when we camp.
They love the bunk room so they have some privacy and their own TV/DVD player in there. They can go to bed when they want and get up when they want and not be in anyone's way.
Having the sofa and the dinette available at all times was important to us. Sometimes we are up late or get up early and we just like to have that space available when we want to use it.
Every once in a great while they want to try a tent... that usually only lasts for one night then they are back in the bunk house!

RE: Start small or Go Big??

I wish I had started out with the larger trailers... I spent a lot of money upgrading to where I wanted to be. I would have been thousands of dollars ahead by starting off there!

RE: Old WD Hitch?

Do you know what weight your bars are rated for? For example if you have 500 lb rated bars but need 1,000 lb rated bars, you probably couldn't transfer enough weight forward to level it out.

Huevos Rancheros

Anyone else out there a fan of this Mexican style breakfast dish?
I recently spent some time working along the Mexican border in south Texas and I just love the food down there. My all time favorite for breakfast is Huevos Rancheros. I first had this dish about fifteen years ago when I started doing some work in south Texas.
I have had this prepared many different ways and each little diner seems to make it just a bit different. Its easy to make and I make it on occasion for my crew.
Basically the dish is a couple of over medium fried eggs served on a warm corn tortilla or even on some crumbled corn chips. Warmed salsa poured on top of the eggs. Refried beans on the side and served with a couple more warm tortillas. If you don't care for the corn tortillas the flour works just as well. It is also usually served with some sauteed beef cooked in a red pepper sauce. Some places serve crumbled up bacon on the side as well. Its fast, its easy and its good. Give it a try sometime if you like Mexican food. :)

RE: How can I . . . ?

Get one of these from PPL Motorhomes.com or JC Whitney for under $20.00. Plug it into any 12 volt outlet and read your battery. When testing with no load on the battery fully charged is 12.6

I've been all over PPL.com & JC Whitney, and I can't find this thing, got a name for it, or a direct link? Please, Thank You
Here is something like if from Camping World.

RE: Help! Jayco deals

(not the G2 ... it weighs too much to even venture to a local flatlander state park).
The difference between the Jay Flight and the Jay Flight G2 with the same floor plan is usually just a few hundred pounds in the lighter trailers.
For example the Jay Flight G2 27BH weighs 4,860 lbs mt. Compare this with the Jay Flight 26 BH (same floor plan) weighs in mt at 4,445 lbs.
So we are talking about 415 lbs between these two, so the G2 would work in this example.

RE: Help! Jayco deals

Okay I called Chevrolet and they agree I shouldnt pull the trailer I THOUGHT I was getting. Plus the more I talked to the dealer it turned out he wasnt even selling me the one with the slide, how we got mixed up there I will never know. SO my weights are lower, I just dont know how low yet. I am going to reassess everything minus changing my tow vehicle.
Can someone tell what they think I can tow? Jayco wise. I dont want any of the tent contraption things
Chevy said my Towing capabilities are 7400 and that I should only do 75% of that to be safe. So all things included, gear and all that would be 5550.
Jayco says that a new 27BH weighs 4,860 empty and can gross 7,500 fully loaded. I'd do it, I would just make sure to load the trailer conservatively and travel with empty tanks. You can toss 1,000 lbs on and still be at only 80%.

RE: Portable tank for transporting fresh water??

I went to Northern Tool and bought a 15 gallon hard plastic tank with a 12 volt pump already attached. Works good for me, I just throw in in the trunk of our Saturn, go to the closest water supply, fill the tank, come back to the R.V., hook up to the battery in the car and pump it into the R.V. Ronnie
This is interesting... I looked around their website and couldn't find it. I wonder if they still carry it? I think I have a catalog in my office so I'll take a look tomorrow.

RE: Portable tank for transporting fresh water??

Just remember that for every gallon of water you carry.. you also carry about 8 pounds of weight..
10 gallons = 80 pounds
50 gallons = 400 pounds
etc..etc....
plus the weight of the container itself...
John
My intent is to carry the tank empty and then just use it in the area of where we are camping. However I do have the capacity to carry it full if I wish. I am probably going to stick with twenty gallons or so when I find the tank I want.

Portable tank for transporting fresh water??

Hi folks!
We just came back after seven nights out at one of our local parks. The water was not on just yet so we were using electric only, which is pretty common for us. Most of the state and federal campgrounds that I frequent have just an electric hookup with no water or sewer.
We easily cruise through a weekend with the water that we can carry on board, we can even go three nights with little effort. Beyond that though and we are probably going to have to pull off some gray water and add fresh water. So I usually only need to do this a few times each year and I know in advance if I will or not.
For years I have kept a few five gallon collapsible water jugs on hand for this and it works ok. I find that with my disability it is pretty difficult to handle these now so I am looking for an easier way.
Seems like a twenty gallon or so tank and an electric pump might be a good solution. I have some ideas for the pump but not for the tank.
For those of you that use a system like this for transporting water, what kind of portable water tank do you use?
Thanx!
Jeff

RE: Jayco went cheapo

Either DLS45 unit is a very good unit.
Here's the website: Lota
and here are the basic spec's:
The DLS-45 Power Converter/Battery Charger from IOTA Engineering converts nominal 108-132 AC voltage to 13.4 DC voltage for both DC load operation and 12V battery charging.
As a power supply, the unit's tightly controlled regulation allows the user to operate a nominal 12VDC load up to 45 amps.
As a battery charger, the unit will maintain the battery, delivering its full-rated current when the battery capacity falls sufficiently low. The voltage is set to deliver its maximum current for the necessary period of time to minimize undue stress to the battery caused by heating of its cells. This helps to ensure the longest possible life of the battery. Over time, as the battery nears its full capacity, the DLS-45 will automatically drop the current, providing a float-charge to the battery to prevent self-discharge of the cells.
DLS-45
The DLS-45 provides AC/DC conversion up to 45 amps and features a Dual Voltage Jack, allowing the user to manually select between 13.6V and 14.2V charging.
DLS-45/IQ4
The DLS-45/IQ4 features an internal IQ Smart Charge Controller which automatically provides three-stage battery charging for safer charging and longer life for your system's battery.
Happy trails,
What is in my Eagle is not in normal production at IOTA. Mine is a ILC-30-45 which I was told by IOTA that this is a custom unit for Jayco. It is a single stage charger and can't be upgraded by adding the IQ4.

RE: Jayco went cheapo

I am in the same boat with my Jayco Eagle. I spoke with both Iota and Jayco and was told that I was out of luck on making this a three stage charger.
I was very disappointed in Jayco's decision to use this charger converter.
At some point, I'll swap it out but haven't yet.

RE: Search Required before posting.

With that reasoning, might as well shut this deal down and just leave it as a searchable archive. We have discussed most everything by now...
OR maybe we could just be helpful to folks, especially new folks and answer questions and discuss rv stuff? If something bothers me, I simply ignore it. Yea, I think I'll continue to do it this way.
I don't think we should make this a requirement.

RE: scooter lifts help

My setup with a Pride Legend is a bit heavier than yours so I do use a 2" class three hitch for my scooter carrier. I wonder if changing out the hitch receiver itself might be the best answer. Last time I looked at those adapters they were pretty expensive, might be able to add just a few bucks and get the heavier hitch.

RE: Destin, FL to Gulf Shores, AL

I would and have run across US 98 to Pensacola then 192 to 182 into Gulf Shores.
I will warn you though that I like scenic routes! ;)
MS Streets and Trips routes it as US 98 West to Foley Alabama then take 59 South into Gulf Shores.
