RE: Propane Detector

this is our 3rd season camping in our new 2012 TT . our detector started going off last year always during the middle of the night. Sometimes it would never go off for an entire weekend. Was very un predictable . Got a repplacement over the winter covered under warranty, Installed it this year and it has not gone off once. I would replace it again.

RE: Va. St parks and pet fee

I am not saying that there are no costs with allowing pets but after talking with the local state park maintenance & rangers it appears they are against the fees as they are rarely full & the money this year instead of upgrading or maintaining the park campground (over $500,000) went to building a horse facility / parking with water & electric hookups, & a horse barn that is under used as well.......... & yes the park employees have to shovel the horse poop.............(Dogs don't make near the mess LOL) I wish we could camp there much bigger sites than in the campground....... but we still would go to the cheaper private campgrounds Which park do you keep referring to that built the horse stables? I knonw Douthat closed a campground and turned it into stables. But, they built a new campground that is big rig friendly. Only downside is it is at the entrance to the park but the lake and all activitives are 3 miles inside the park so we continue to camp at the interior CG that remained opened.

RE: What brand of Tire Pressure Monitoring System recommended?

Tiretracker for me. Installed this year and 3k miles later all is good. I love the peace of mind I get from having a TPMS on my TT tires now.

RE: Ocean Lakes and other MB campgrounds

Just checked and we are in site 2208. Well, you will either love it or hate it as that spot is along the road so you will be in the mix of all the action. At night you can sit in your site and see all sorts of things with the golf cart cruise going on. BTW, we will be nighbors as we are in spot 2190 which is about 3 spots behind you in the next row over. We come in on the 28th - 7th. See you at the beach!

RE: Ocean Lakes and other MB campgrounds

Your kids will have a great time. Sure its busy but all the campground parks are busy and July 4th is the busiest week of the summer. If you are in the 3000 or 4000 section it will be much quieter. However, after 11pm it quiets down everywhere within the park. Our kids have been going with us since 7 and 3. They loved it then and now they are 10 and 6 and love it more and more.

RE: Natural Bridge, Va

Both are nice. KOA is right off I-81 whereas Yogi is about 6 miles. Yogi will have more to do but they nickel and dime you. for kids in summer i would say Yogi .

RE: Moving on up

Congrats on the new MH. The first time you pull into a CG with the MH and all you have to do is pull in, put in park, and open a cold one....you will wonder why you waited so long! :C So 20 minutes is too long to unhook a TT, place a set of BAL XChokes between the wheels, level side to side(if needed), level front to back, and lower stab jacks. I should say except for placing the BAL chokes the other 3 steps are power operated. After this step every camper has the same steps to follow from this point on. 20 minutes for me is being generous on the first part to be honest.

RE: Driving non stop

I love to drive. No issues going 12-14 hours per day and that includes towing. i would do this vs. having my wife drive for one hour . However, i would also think I would prioritize my destination first and foremost to minimize driving and more time to see different places. If Yellowstone is where you want to go and this is your only opportunity and 2 weeks is all you will ever have to make the trip i would do it. But like other posters have said there are many places to see between NC and Wyoming that will keep you out of the drivers seat longer. Another idea would be to fly. Have fun. Did you sell your TT?

RE: Can You Raise/Lower TT With Bal Chocks On?

I raise and lower each trip with the BAL chokes installed. I gave up using wheel chokes 3 years ago

RE: Bethpage Campground Va

We were there from Thursday to Monday. Outside of raining and being cold on Friday it was a great time. spent Saturday and Sunday lounging and sippings suds at the pool. That yellow slide tweaked my neck though. :) We will be back next year .

RE: Wytheville Virginia KOA

We met the new owners last Labor Day. They are very nice and said the same thing to us about consolidating some sites, adding some others, paving etc. However, they also planned to do this during this past off season so maybe they had to push it back until after this season. We like the campground as it has a very nice pool with a slide and our 10 and 6 year old love it. We also stay right across from the pool in site 48 I think. they are FHU back in sites and very deep. We are right next to a cabin so we have plenty of room. There are tight sites in the CG for sure(I don't like the pull throughs at all) but in general the CG is nice. We are going back for 3 nights in July. If you don't need FHU they have very big back in sites directly in front of the restrooms.

RE: Virginia State Parks

I would prefer to pick my site. With a 34' TT I am not comfortable showing up and hoping that all the big sites aren't taken by tent campers. We make our reservations 11 months out so with a site specific system i would be assured I can show up at 5pm on a Friday afternoon and not worry about what is left. In order to move to this system though I suggested in the survey that VA state parks post photos of each site on the campground like the COE does. Makes picking sites much easier.

RE: Grills that hang on the side wall of the trailer

Same one I use. Works very well and big. I think about 220 sq inches.

RE: West Virginia

Our kids will be 9 and 6 at the time. A playground would be nice but we vote for a scenic cg first. A clean showerhouse would be fantastic. This trip is to catch up with family so we will be hanging out at the CG and hiking. Horseback riding and other activities aren't necessary. Any part of the state is OK. Pipestem offers these attractions. Granted the bathhouse is not the newest or nicest but we take Navy showers in the TT. They have a gondola which is great for the kids to ride and experience, have horse back riding(6 year old may not be old enough as our 5 year old could not do it last summer) and great hiking. Have an olympic size pool as well.

RE: Grills that hang on the side wall of the trailer

About the smoke. No matter what I grill I place a sheet of heavy duty aluminum foil on the rack. This keeps all the grease from burgers, juices and marinades from dripping into the flame. Works for us and my grill does not look nasty with grease splattered all on the inside. Very little smoke if you do this and everything I BBQ comes out fine. At least wife and kiddos never complain so I assume all is good. :)

RE: Rockwood 8312 SS

Looks like your model has corrected the ONE problem that has occurred on our 8314 model. That being the location of the rear door. When located too far behind the axles this tends to make the steps a "drag point" when traveling over uneven ground and we often camp in National Forest and other back country areas. Had to replace my rear steps twice due to this problem. The single door prevents this issue. Good luck / Skip Probably true but I also noticed that the placement of the rear door and steps when driving in rain throws all the crud onto the steps. Since we use the carpets on our steps this gets annyoying but I would not ever give up having this door leading into the bathroom. Would be nice if Forest River made some type of splash guard and that would solve the problem.

RE: Grills that hang on the side wall of the trailer

We have a sidekick grill and use it all the time. No issues. Love the quick connect from the hose on the side of the trailer. No problems with splatter, grease or discoloration

RE: Rockwood 8312 SS

This is our 3rd season with our 2012 8312ss. We love it. I sure hope you have the max tow package and HD package on your f150. The engine will pull it but you will be overweight as the tongue weight is heavy on these units. Good luck. I do recommend you replace the LCI power jack if you got one, They are junk and will fail within 1-2 years dependiing on use. Be careful not to extend it too far. The gears strip very easily.

RE: LCI electric tongue jack - fix that worked for me - some oil

Dman1Well, we'll just keep on going until it does fail. At least we can always crank it manually if need be. Anyone else out there with an LCI that has worked well for them? This will be my 4th summer. I'm sure there are some longer lasting ones out there? Don't be so sure of that. When mine failed it would not even manually crank. The inner shaft just moved up and down(had to use bungee cords to keep it from falling out). I was extremly lucky that mine broke when I was disconnecting in the storage lot and it had not put enough pressure on the block before breaking. I was on the ball and was able to get the block out. Drove it to my dealer for replacement. LCI is junk. Plenty of posts on here to support this. If you want my spare LCI I'll sell it to you for $50 + shippping. Works but I don't trust it.
