RE: To do near Gatlinburg

Thanks, staying at Twin Creek. We have those few places on our list already. Hoping to find some good BBQ. I also found a musclecar museum in Seiverville, which I'll do.

To do near Gatlinburg

Hi folks, We will be there w/o the 22nd, and have done some searching, found the usual touristy stuff....Dollywood, SMNP, downtown, but looking for the out-of-the-way things to do and places to eat. Good BBQ, places to hear bands, out of the ordinary shops ...etc. The forum was very helpful in our trip to Nashville, we were referred some great places. We all especially liked the Trace Pkway and Leipers Fork recommends. Hopefully someone can do the same for the Gatlinburg area. Thanks.

RE: Anyone using a 2009 Escape?

It's not like you're cutting up a collector car and hurting future value. I also assume you'll keep the car for several years. If you have the toad you want, put the tow bar on it. Yep will go the tow bar route. Escape came in but got put into dealer stock in error and they SOLD it....so now awaiting another. They're knocking more $$ off the price for my trouble. What I really need is a nice trailer like yours, to haul my '66 Goat around ;)

RE: Anyone using a 2009 Escape?

I already have a Roadmaster tow bar, so I'll need to stick with their base plate. I've read over the install instructions...they don't look bad at all, only taking the front grill off and getting the fasteners to work again will be the only tricky part. Escape still not in...but I'm told should be any day.

RE: How do YOU have your Driver's-Side-Mirror adjusted?

Mine is adjusted as yours...to be viewed through the side window, though I've always disliked it as it does stick out too far. Always wanted to experiment to see if it could be changed, but they mount to the side rather the front, so it remains to be seen if it works on mine.

RE: Yesterday, it was one week ago

So sorry we know the feeling. From time to time, I still hear Tucker drinking out of his water bowl ;)

RE: Anyone using a 2009 Escape?

Thanks all. Escape is due in next week, and I've decided to stick with towing 4 down instead of a dolly. I'll do the install myself. Hope it tows as good as my Explorer.

RE: am I getting taken on this brake job?

Hey Mike, you should have rang me up, could have done it here no problem. Give me a ring sometime.

RE: Anyone using a 2009 Escape?

After thinking about it, researching some of the dollies available, looking over the install instructions, and everything else pertaining to, I've decided to stick with 4 down towing. I found the Roadmaster baseplate for $300, and can do the work myself, as I do all my own auto / mechanic work. I'm used to this method, and don't want to have to figure out a whole new routine, storing, hooking, spare tire...etc. As far as setting up an '05 Escape, the baseplate is probably the easy part, but because of the limitation on the transmission, you can't simply hookup and go without some additional work as a trans bypass or driveshaft disco; the reason why I didn't buy one until the '09's were tow ready.

Anyone using a 2009 Escape?

Hi all, Just ordered an '09 Escape, trading in the Explorer. Currently I tow 4 down, but I've been kicking around the idea of using a dolly instead of 4 down towing. The Explorer tow bar brackets were very easy to install, the Escape is major work, but still do-able. I just didnt know if I wanted to take apart the front of a brand new vehicle and start drilling / trimming ..etc. I'm very used to 4 down towing, so any comments appreciated.

Lake George CGs, other than LGRV and Escape?

Hi folks, I have nothing against these 2 CGs but we stayed at LGRV and was impressed at what was offered but I must admit, it's very pricey, probably the most expensive we're ever stayed at. Only 2 people included and +8 bux each nite addtl. Weekends a higher rate. We don't use all the amenities so it seems like I'm paying for stuff I wont use. Are there any other options for that area? Thanks.

RE: ENOUGH Winter Already!!!

Other than cold we haven't really gotten any real winter weather here. No snow just a few dustings. You folks up north have had it pretty nasty, so I feel your pain.... Hang in there !

RE: Waiting at the Rainbow Bridge

Today we sent our beloved Tucker to the Rainbow Bridge, who was just shy of 14 yrs. There he'll meet up with my first Golden, Aja, who was lost at 13 yrs. We adopted Tucker in 2000, and he traveled with us, along with Penny, our whole RV'ing life, making lots of people and doggie friends along the way. He had a great, healthy life, in a big yard that was his "kingdom", loved the pool, and chasing his ball and just recently he started to show his age. We are all heartbroken, but we know that we did the right thing for our big guy and look forward to the day when we'll meet again. See ya on the other side, boys...... http://kensfamily.com/images/Tucker.jpg

RE: Ford Escare V6 flat towable?

I've been looking into possibly trading my Explorer for an Escape. It seems like only the FWD (front wheel drive) models can be towed. Edit: 4WD CAN be towed 4 down, but cannot be towed on a dolly That's the way I'm reading it now.

RE: New California GPS law starts in January

Now, why in the world would they need to pass laws that prohibit putting things in your view area that obstructs seeing the road, traffic, signals, etc.? Same reason for the warning on a hair dryer that says not to use it while bathing......STUPID people. Thanks Bill Engval ;)

RE: FL keys to Kissimee

What route would you suggest? There is so much tolls on FL tpk... is there a better way? Sheesh, I found this out the hard way. Must have cost $40 in tolls from Orlando to Miami. I will surely keep the alternate rout in my notes for next time.

RE: Ford Escare V6 flat towable?

I was on Ford's site a short time ago and was looking at the towing pdf they have for their models. It does look like the '09s can be flat towed as long as they have an automatic trans. (on all but the I4 engine, which can be towed with the manual also, though there is a 70 mph restriction.) Also there is a restriction that they can't be towed on a dolly, but then you didn't ask that ;)

RE: One MORE reason I hate my DTV

I feel your pain man. I curse DTV repeatedly. I have great signal on all the transponders (90 or better) but ever since they upgraded me to a HD DVR I get constant audio drop outs and freezing of the picture. Sometimes the screen just goes blank and I have to power cycle. So after putting up with months of this and it getting real bad during the CMAs (of course during Shania Twain's appearance :M I called DTV in for service. Now I expected they would find nothing wrong, and probably would want to replace the rcvr, but to charge me for a $50 service call? Been a customer for 14 years, and now a service I pay for is not working correctly and I have to pay more, on top of the $100 / month. $100 / month to watch TV............I must be an idiot :S
