RE: Harbor Frt Cordless Drill or Impact

We use a Rigid that came with 2 battery packs. Have been using it around the house for a number of years and now we have used it to lower our stabilizer jacks for the last 18 months. One of the battery packs isn't holding a charge like it use to so I think it may be getting time to buy another drill. Seems the battery packs are almost as much as the drill.

RE: $7000 to spend on tow vehicle, suggestions?

We owned a 2007 Avalanche (4wd with tow package). We loved our Avalanche and had it set up for the kayaks and mountain bikes. The back seat was spacious and accomodated our 2 large German Shepherds with room to spare. Love that the rear window could be removed and the seats could fold down with access to the cargo area. We have a 27RBSS Viewfinder and it towed our TT beautifully locally in GA and into FL without issue...until we got into anything with more than a 3% grade and it struggled. This was our 2nd Avalanche and it had 180k miles on it when we traded it in on our new TV. It's a much nicer towing experience with our new TV andnot having to worry about being underpowered.

RE: Doberman

I have never had a Dobie but have camped with our 2 German Shepherds. I never ran into any breed restrictions with them per se. I did ask when making the reservation if it would be a problem to bring them. If nothing else, they were like a novelty because whenever we would have them outside and people would walk by everyone would stop and ask us if they could pet them. Even a park ranger at a SP stopped by our TT just to see them and comment how much he appreciated us having them under control. We now have a 9 month old German Shepherd puppy that we just started camping with. She is super social - almost too social but I'd rather have her that way than the other extreme. Good luck!

RE: Can't Keep It Looking Good

$260 for a wash and wax? I'm thinking that sounds great compared to the price I was quote recently for our 27 ft TT. Now, I just have to get the DH to "help" me wax it after our next trip.

RE: We did it!!!

Congrats! We bypassed a pop-up and hybrid and went right into a TT. We love it so I really have nothing else to compare it to. Hope you enjoy yours and it's delivered by the 4th of July weekend!

RE: CO Story -- Stay safe everyone

Good to know on the CO detector's. I change the batteries in the smoke detector in our TT at the same time I do the house batteries. Twice a year to coincide with DST.

RE: 4 night minimum normal?

The SP's in GA also have a 3 night minimum for holiday weekends. I've always had better luck calling the SP's directly than using their website. I do like ReserveAmerica's site though!

RE: Please tell me about Iowa

My nephew and his wife have stayed at Cenla (Lake Okoboji area), Lake View and Scharnberg. Sites were nice and they would definitely go back plus it's close to home for them. Safe travels.

RE: Please tell me about Iowa

I grew up in the northwest corner of Iowa close to Lake Okoboji and lived there for 22 years. I enjoy going back to visit but do not like the snow. It's a lot slower lifestyle than metro Atlanta and is quite refreshing. I think that's great that you want to photograph the courthouses. Keep us posted on your travels. The Clay County Fair (the world's largest county fair) occurs in September for 10 days. Unfortunately, I did not start camping until I moved south to Georgia. I can check with my nephew who has a TT to see if he has some CG recommendations. However, I will be eager to hear what others have to say as well. We have been "toying" with the idea of towing our TT up there for our next visit and making a larger trip out of it.

RE: Portable Gray Water Tote

Thank you everyone for the replies and the comparisons between the Thetford and Barker. I would definitely want one that had wheels and could attach to the hitch. I too, like taking showers in our TT and being able to wash dishes without worrying about filling up the gray tank. The showers are short and I certainly don't let the water freely flow in the sink either so I try to be conscioutious regardless of the hookup. I just know from our last trip that we had to let some water out of the gray tank. The SP's and COE's that we camp at have at least 1 dump station and in most cases multiple dump stations. Now, where the dump stations are located logistically to our site may be another thing but if the tote can be hauled easily then it really shouldn't be much of an issue.

Portable Gray Water Tote

We usually camp at private campgrounds with sewer hookup and usually have to dump some of the gray water by the 2nd night/3rd day. Our next few trips will be spent at COE or SP's that do not have sewer hookup. Thinking of buying an 18 or 27 gallon Thetford tote should we need to dump some of the gray water and avoid having to hook the TT up. Pretty sure DH isn't going to go for the option of hooking up just to dump some gray water. We have room in the bed of the truck to store it so that's not an issue. Just wondering if it's worth it or I could just make DH use the showers at the CG;) Would like to hear any pro's or con's if you've used these.

RE: What food to bring?

Here I thought my crock pot was my best friend. I might have to investigate the dutch oven! We eat very similar meals to how we do at home too (maybe a little worse because of the snack food and chips). We never have those things at the house...and for a good reason!

EcoBoost Gas Mileage

Am curious to know if those of you who have the EcoBoost - has the gas mileage (daily driving) been what you expected or just hype? We have yet to tow with ours but have a trip coming up this month..FINALLY!!! The gas mileage running around town is in the mid teens and high teens on the highway if we don't have a lead foot. Most of the driving right now is in town and running quick errands (stop and go). Was just wondering if this is average or if there's something else we should be doing to increase MPG. Honestly, the MPG seems about the same as the Chevy Avalanche that we had which rode much better but just didn't have the towing capacity.

Good idea, Sharon! Mine had her chip inserted at 10 weeks of age without issue.

RE: Springtime shedding

I used the Furminator for many years on my German Shedders errr I mean German Shepherds. It worked much better (for me) than the shredding rake and slicker brush. You just need to go over their fur lightly; don't press hard. Haven't tried it on the new pup yet...for whatever reason she doesn't seem to shed as much as the other two did...AND she's a long coated German Shepherd. Go figure!

RE: Camping with 9 week old pup

Congratulations! We were in the same situation in October when we brought our puppy home. However, I opted to not do any camping trips with her from the advice of my vet and the breeder until she was fully vaccinated. Just my choice. By then, camping season was over. Can anything be transmitted by what the stray dogs may leave behind that you don't necessarily see? I agree that you can't keep them in a bubble until they're vaccinated but I do think some places are better to go with them than others. I'm also one of those people that carried her into the vet AND had playdates with other vaccinated dogs at our house just to give you some perspective on my craziness. Ha ha!

RE: Soft crates

In a pinch I purchased the Wal-Mart brand soft crate to transport our 12 week old German Shepherd home in. It worked fine short term but not built for longevity in the least nor did I expect it to be. The door was flimsy and tore easily. I used it for about 2 weeks and then purchased a sturdy canvas crate once I returned home with a durable mesh door. She's outgrown the canvas crate but it held up very well and I would have purchased the next size up to start with had it fit in our vehicle. She is now in a 42" wire Midwest crate. I'll use the extra 36" wire Midwest crate in our travel trailer. The canvas crates are definitely easier to handle than the wire crates but both fold up nicely. One is just heavier than the other.
