RE: Dam Dogs

Bottom line is nobody knows if stepmom did something that the dogs perceived as a threat. Of course she will say she did nothing. ANY dog may attack if feeling provoked. There are many pits living with families that have never been nor ever will be an issue.

RE: Best route to cherry park in maryland

I wouldn't drive through NYC unless my life depended on it! You can only go over the top of the GWB w/propane. We go around via the Tappan Zee, 287/87, then into PA via rt. 78. Outside Harrisburg pick up 81 to 83, go through Harrisburg (not an issue on a Saturday), stay on 83 into Maryland, pick up 695 to 95 (we go the western route and avoid the Key Bridge). Follow the directions on their website from the Beltway. It's more miles but no NYC hassle. There some hills on 78 but nothing major. And you can stop at Cabelas in Hamburg, PA. Great place to get out and stretch, do some shopping or browsing or eat in their restaurant plus there's accessible gas there.

RE: A question about Disney World

Directly from the website:
Items that you may not bring into the theme parks include but are not limited to:
•Items with wheels, such as:
•Wagons
•Skateboards
•Scooters
•Inline skates
•Shoes with built-in wheels
•Strollers larger than 36" x 52" (92 x 132 cm)
•Suitcases, coolers or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" (61 cm) long x 15" (38 cm) wide x 18" (46 cm) high. (Coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations.)
•Any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller
•Alcoholic beverages
•Weapons of any kind
•Folding chairs
•Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
•Pets (unless they are service animals)
In Disney's Animal Kingdom theme Park (for the safety of the wildlife), balloons, straws and drink lids are not permitted
It all comes down to whether or not you want to lug a ton of stuff with you versus spending more.

RE: Spring ???

Ah, sorry, but no! Right now we have no snow on the ground in our area and had a magnificant and very rare 70 degree March day, but it's going to turn cold again at the end of the week and we are not out of the woods yet. Latest major snow on record is 5/9/77-we had a blizzard in eastern Mass. Snowblower doesn't get put away until June!

RE: Dam Dogs

No issue with any dogs here. Issues with some dog owners. I've had people tell me to get rid of my Springers because of Springer rage, including a vet tech who won't go near them. Regardless of breed, ANY dog can turn. And unless someone is in the house with the breeder and sees all and knows all or was there when the dogs "attacked" we can't judge.

RE: Yard back to normal

Burms gone-we needed to fill in the hole we got the dirt from! Yes, we are thinking of moving but my son is settling into college this fall only an hour away, so it will probably wait. My friend is hoping that FEMA says that because the house has been flooded 3 times they have to move. She can get pretty close to fair market price and it's paid for. Her kids are all grown (one still lives at home) so there's no school issues or anything like that. She's ready to move on.

Yard back to normal

Meant to post earlier but wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes and let you know the water receded almost as quickly as it rose in the yard. Dog kennel is put back together and other than Jake escaping earlier today (he came right up on the deck) because the gate was too high, all is well. My friend didn't fare as well. She lives on the river upstream from us on the other side of town and lost everything in her basement. It's happened before so all that's down there was the furnace and air conditioning and they've got flood insurance, but the water came up to about 3 inches below the first floor.

RE: new traveling companion

My apologies if I came across as harsh. That wasn't my intent. I agree that you did a wonderful thing by taking this animal in and keeping it safe. However, your first post didn't give any indication that you were trying to find the rightful owner. It certainly appears you are and I wish you the best of luck. I know you will be heartbroken if you have to give Roadie up but I also know you will do what is best.

RE: Take the test

Actually my thought is most that don't do well are extremely smart. I had my son do it (remember, 8th in a class of 400, A's and B's in all honors and A/P classes, top SAT scores) and he didn't do that well. You are overthinking, that's all.

RE: Grafitti is not Art, in my humble opinion..anyways

It depends. I've seen some incredible artwork done grafitti style. I've seen many "classic" pieces of art that look like blobs. Just like beauty, it's in the eyes of the beholder. Do I approve of someone painting another's property without permission? No, of course not. But to me, some of the paintings are far more attractive than just a bland wall.

RE: The stick is out-updated 3/16/10 9:05

Total rainfall was 8 inches in our town. It was one of the hardest hit areas but a town just a few miles away got over 10 inches. It's receding now and we are starting to see the damage that's been done. Nothing major-just a mess of "stuff". We had to line the bottom of the fence in the dog kennel with timbers and tree trunks to keep the dogs from digging out and they are EVERYWHERE along with some soccer balls and other assorted toys. But the weather is GORGEOUS and is supposed to be that way for about a week. That will give us time to clean up and get back to normal.

RE: The stick is out-updated 3/16/10 9:05

We made it! Woo hoo! The water came REAL close but didn't quite make it. This morning's commute was a bear (I'm at work but took a quick peek) because all the back roads are still clsoed due to flooding but here I am. And the house is dry, which is more than a lot of people can say. I am so thankful we were so lucky because many people just a street or 2 over weren't.

RE: The stick is out-updated 3/16/10 9:05

The water started rising about 6-8 inches an hour last night. We were up at 2 a.m. then again at 6. The bridge we had built across what is normally a small run-off stream was free-floating. It weighs about 300 lbs. Right night it's teathered to the dog kennel fence and what we hope is a strong tree. It's still raining but the rate of rise has slowed considerably. I originally planned on staying home from work (hubby is working from home) for fear we'd need to evacuate the dogs but then around 10:30 decided it was safe to go in. I cannot get to work due to road closures and huge traffic jams. So, guess I'll catch up on the laundry and pay the bills. Not sure we're completely out of the woods yet but things are looking better.

RE: I found a leak

We are in the same boat. The dome over our shower got damaged earlier this year, we fixed it once but couldn't get it replaced like it needs to be. It's covered but because of the wind is still leaking some. Most of the water is going directly into the shower stall and then draining. Fortunately it's been warm enough that we aren't worried about water freezing in pipes or the holding tank.
