This is a nice inexpensive one. Big digits and a wrist strap so you can use it one handed. It also takes standard banana plugs so you can set up with some Pomona leads and alligator clips or whatever. I have three...one at home, one I fly with (work), and one in the RV.

RE: Poor GPS Reception in a "C"

I recently had trouble with mine. I just started using a dashboard camera in my RV and had it in the center of the windshield next to the GPS It turns out the camera kicks out enough RF noise to cause the Garmin problems. I moved the camera to the driver's side and problem solved. Anyone else having reception problems should check for nearby electronic devices that could be causing issues.

With a 4 wheel drive, you can get stuck much farther from a paved road than a 2WD.

I had to chuckle when I read this.. We found two rigs like we now have. One 4WD and the 2WD. My wife and I liked both and talked it over. Just what you said became the main point and a reminder of me getting a 4WD rig stuck needing two D6 Cats. One got stuck and had to set until things dryed out to dig it out. Wife won this one. Love our 2WD drive.
That's the whole reason for having 4WD.....you can get stuck places you previously couldn't even get to!!!

On our recent 1 month trip in the Western US hitting national parks we saw a few foreign RVs. More expedition types than I expected. Biggest one was on a Stehr truck chassis. Smallest was a Camel Trophy Land Rover (the real deal) with a tent on top. In between we saw some Toyota Landcruiser based ones.

I have to assume that the travel trailer's umbilical will be plugged into the receiver on the back of the class C. You will need those trailer brakes to fire off when stopping such a combination.
True. I recommend brakes over 2500 lbs. Texas law requires 4500 lbs plus. My particular TT I towed behind the Class C is 4400, but I still use brakes, weight distribution, and sway control.

In my state it's 3000 lbs. I tow a smallish utility trailer behind the RV without brakes but I have supplemental braking for the toad when I tow it. It is just under 3000 lbs but I'd rather be safe.

Not to hijack this thread, but what is the brightest, easiest to see, greatest contrast color?
I don't know about the Scangauge, but the Insight automatically adjusts to light conditions.
Scanguage can be set to all kinds of back light colors so I have it set to match the MB dash and it's a near perfect match. Great night and day.

As stated, as long as you do not exceed the length restrictions (usually 65 feet) or go over the GCWR, you should be good to go.
...and remember the tongue weight counts as weight in the RV.

We have an appointment June 3 at HWH in Moscow, IA to get an automatic leveling system installed. Very reasonable, they charge list price for the system but do not charge for installation. I'll post pictures when finished.
Just found out something interesting: according to the Sprinter Wiki, only the 2007 model Sprinters have the V6 engine with the 4.18 rear drive axle. In 2008, it changed to 3.92. So our mileage is a bit less but more torque to the rear wheels. :C We thought it towed well, interesting to find out why.
Do you mind if I ask what they quoted you?

I have one on mine and use it all the time when on trips. When loaded heavily and towing I use the LOD function to give me visibility as to when to downshift.
The OBDII port on the '11 Sprinter is under the fuse box cover so with the gauge plugged in you cannot close the cover unless you either a) trim a hole in the cover, or b) unscrew the Sprinter OBDII connector, hook up the Scangauge connector and tuck the two of them away behind the panel it was screwed to (which is what I did). You can route the wire under the trim, rubber etc along the door/ A pillar to get to the top of the dash.

Expect to find a fiberglass layer over a thin layer of ply (luan) and then foam. You can combine screws with double back tape if you want a bit more support. Don't forget to seal the screw holes. I think you may be over-thinking things. It's not rocket science. The manufacturers just drill away and add screws.
There are high tech double back tapes available that would allow you to dispense with screws completely. Folks mount their solar systems to the roof with such tape. I think 3M makes one of them (figures).

I mounted mine inside the rear window. No new holes in the MH. Works well except in the rain.
Rear view cameras don't work so well it the rain anyway. Only issue for you is cleaning the back window to restore the view. Clever idea, actually.

Yes, the unit itself has to be below head level. In the instruction book for my CPAP unit, it also warns against using an extension cord. Will go back and review that condition as well. Taking it in today to my sleep specialist, so will try to remember to ask about that as well!
I will take a closer look for outlets the next time we look at one.

I suspect the extension cord warning is just because the manufacturer has no control over the quality of extension cords or how they are used. It is a pretty typical warning of many devices. That should not be an issue if the cord is of sufficient gauge (a CPAP can't draw that much current) and has the appropriate plug configuration.
I think your biggest issue is going to be getting the unit down low in a J or any RV with walls surrounding the bed.
One thing that could be done is punch a pass through in the wall (on a J) and put the CPAP unit on the bathroom side with the hose coming through the wall to you. Just thinking out loud.....
I just looked at mine and there's the two outlets mentioned above at the foot of the bed up kind of high on the wall and another 115V outlet at the foot of the bed at floor level.

Thanks for the comments. Finding them informative. We have seen the 24J and feel that the floor plan would be adequate with our 2 terriers. However, I am on a CPAP machine and there is no place for it with that corner bed configuration and no plug-in back there for it. We did see how someone had addressed the plug-in problem in a used one that we looked at, but the placement is still a problem. It has to be lower than my head.
The Via is also very intriguing to us and would like to several more of those.
We saw a very clean 2010 Via but it has 100k miles on it! I know, I know, its a diesel!! I'm assuming that is about 1/5 or less of its life expectancy?!?
There are outlets (both 115V and 12V) at the foot of the bed on our 24J. You sure you have that correct or has WGO changed something? Is the actual issue the CPAP has to be below head level?

There are times when it is good to run with all slides in. Wallydocking comes to mind.
We use ours as our bedroom when staying at my folks' place. We are parked in the street when we do it so the slide can't be deployed.

That's nice as long as you paddle short kayaks. My 16' touring kayak would pose a problem, though ;-)
Here's my trailer - the handy part is that I can bum a ride from almost anyone to a boat launch or river put-in; places our Class C sure can't go!

We use a kayak cart/dolly to get the boat (loaded with gear) down to the water. Once there we either strap the cart to the boat or lock it to a convenient spot on shore with a bike lock. On a bigger boat (we have a 14' inflatable so limited interior space) one could knock down the cart and carry it inside.

I have a 2011 24J which we just got back form a month long trip towing a 2000 Chev Tracker. I feel the Tracker climbing steep grades but I'm still overtaking the semis. If you are familiar with Utah 12 (Torrey to Escalante) we made that run. 9600 foot pass with 14% grade on our descent. Yeah, I had to pay attention. It is not for the faint hearted RVer.

This was a BIG deciding factor for me. I originally wanted slide but after shopping and seeing them in, I quickly changed my mind about a 'slides r us' MH.
All depends I guess on how much you travel with the RV. I full time so a lot of time 'traveling' on the road. When I stop at a rest area to use MY bathroom, get a sandwich, take a nap on the bed, or to get a sweater out of a closet.....I want to be ABLE to do so!!!
I looked all the way up to the top end of the A's with slides and all of them blocked the usage of most of these areas. More slides, equaled even less access. :(
My advice on this is if you are looking at RV's with slides, especially if they are at a dealership MAKE them CLOSE all the slides.
Every salesman I encountered came up with 10 different reasons why they couldn't close them for me. Ya right. :R
They have them all open and don't want to close them because on most on them it seals off access of the entire MH!
It was a hard requirement for us to be able to live in the RV with the slide closed. We just got back form a month on the road and about half the time we didn't even bother putting it out.
