RE: cash grab by Crown Villa Resort

As a dog owner, and someone that showed dogs for 20 years, I do not believe in dogs being left outside and I do not believe in tying up a dog, for any reason. I can't tell you how many dogs die each year due to this. I also agree that if a dog does damage, same as if a kid does damage, it is not up to me to assess the amount. It is what it is and I would pay it. However, one of our dogs is a service dog and goes everywhere with me (stores, movies, etc.) and the other is 16.5 years old and sleeps 99 percent of his life. We have been to this park before too and LOVED it. Hope they are not going down hill, as that would be so sad We planned to return in 2014. I tie my dogs to my chair when I sit outside, but I do not leave them alone. DW or I are there. Leaving dogs chained by themselves is bad for the dogs disposition. IF the mess was normal wear and tear you should not be charged. IF it was more.... I have seen humans leave messes also.

RE: Carrying Aux propane tank

I hope that by talking about what happen to my family, that maybe others will not have to endure what our family did as a result of a propane accident. TXDego is very accurate. If a container inadvertently leaks you risk and explosion and that is why you are not suppose to store them in an enclosed container like a bay. It sounds like the possibility of static electricity as stated or the possibly of a rather minor spark when the tail gate was moved was sufficient to cause the propane to explode.

RE: Navistar RV is gone.......Hello new owners

Great news for Monaco family of coaches. Sure hope the new company is not over leveraged as it could mean the death of all of them. This will be very good or very bad news eventually.

RE: swap 5k lbs hitch to a 10k lbs hitch

Yup, don't bother to stay within the towing limits of your coach. And, if you have an accident, hope you can explain to police and insurance company why you exceeded the legal limits of your vehicle (they are smart enough to ask). 'legal' limits? LOL, the only 'legal' limit in most cases is defined by the DOT limits on the roads you're on (typically 20,000 lbs per axle, not something you have to worry about). Or in some cases, the max. amount of weight your vehicle is registered for with DMV. GCWR, and GVWR limits, contrary to popular belief, and contrary to the MYTHs that keep getting spread on here, are NOT legal limits. They are purely RECOMMENDATIONS from the manufacturer. No more. Insurance? LOL, lets PLEASE not start spreading that ridiculous MYTH again, suggesting that insurance can deny a claim if they find you are exceeding a manufacturer's RECOMMENDED maximum weight. That urban mythological bit of nonsense just needs to die. Having said that....Like other posters have alluded to, you do need to take several factors into consideration before just swapping a 5k receiver for a 10k receiver. Frame/chassis strength, weight balance/distribution, and axle, tire weight ratings to name a few. However, paranoia spread on internet forums about non-existant 'legal' limits is not one of them. IF you have commercial insurance they may be able to deny coverage If you have regular owners vehicle insurance like most of us it would be surprising to me if they could deny coverage. For the most part over loading will reduce the life of various components due to fatigue, over heating, etc and most will not experience that failure and some may. a SMART lawyer will try to paint you as a reckless risk taker that flaunts safe guidelines. He may plant the seed that you would likely do other things to disregard others safety. Will a judge allow this? Some would and others would not, but a judge likely will not rule until trial as judges like both sides pressured so they settle before trial so get ready to answer these types of questions in a rather stressful deposition. Everybody needs to make their own decision based on their assets at stake and their risk tolerance. You will most likely really ever know this if someone gets seriously injured or killed and they take the time to really examine the details. But, as far as believing over weighing your coach is riskless endeavor as some say is wrong. Of course if you have no money and no insurance like they guy who hit my SIL they really will not do much to you. :E

RE: Boondocking at Walmart

We have to stop at Walmart any way. Prescriptions, need to keep the dog on a single brand of dog food, lots of name brand food we choose for consistency like cereals so why not take advantage of there free pull thru parking? On a 100 night trip I likely stay at Walmart 10+/- nights. Exactly who am I hurting?:h Walmart is perfect when your next stop is more than one day away, especially for us. Other wise it stinks for camping experience, but we do not stop there for a camping experience we just stop there to shop and to sleep.

RE: the worse built motorhome you can think of

This discussion is going nowhere. Let's end it here. Actually the OP posts good questions. He may likely have alteria motives and wish to stir the pot, but their are both good and bad manufacturers and you can not identify them easily from various posts here or else where. The posts that indicate it is the user are silly. Was the Yugo, the Pacer, or the Vega equivalent to the best of both foreign and domestic production? I have owned f-150s, hondas, and ..... All better than many other production. Similarly Newmars and others are better than some also rans IMO. As I previously stated we are to biased about our homes to get to a real answer here about other MHs. While the OP questions are good his stirring the pot is not IMO. We should still answer some of his questions even if we ignore his stirring the pot IMO. I know we all love our rigs, but we still need to help determine better builders from less better builders. This everyone deserves a trophy for just showing up mentality has got to go. They may be very nice people for showing up, but that does not mean we should spend our hard earned dollars on them (We are talking about 6 months to a years difference in working lives or more here :E :S) As a side note I would kill for an extra year of life traveling in my MH (OK kill is an exaggeration)

RE: the worse built motorhome you can think of

Well how do I like it, that a Prevost a Foretravel ETC is better than my HR? I DEAL WITH IT!!!!!! get over yourself. And who cares how long I have been on a forum?? I have owned buses or a motorhome since I was 29. And furthermore I am sure that there is "the cheapest terribly built rv out there. Many People do not admit to problems with MHs. They have emotional attachments to the house and the brand. People do not get emotionally attached to stereos, and gadgets the same way. Tiffin is one of the top loved brands on this or any forum. Things like the fact that many years of MHs were sold where the roofs cracked and wet bays rotted do not stop this devotion to this brand. There are other devotees of other brands. Even really poor manufacturers owners love their home on wheels. It is home sweet home plus an escape to anywhere. This makes it VERY difficult to determine good brands and bad brands, but you will find out when you called some ones baby ugly I can guarantee that. :E

RE: Air Bags

I just brought a 2000 Gulfstream Scenic Cruiser. The air bags seem to go down over night. is this a problem? If you're driving...yes...if parked, not so much...:B....Dennis If they deflate completely overnight, you probably have a leak somewhere in the system. Time for soapy water and some crawl time.....usually it can simply be a loose fitting. MAKE SURE YOUR COACH IS SUPPORTED BEFORE CRAWLING UNDERNEATH! If an air line goes while you're under there, you could be crushed to death....Dennis All advice so far is great. BUT PLEASE reread the above again and again. IF you disrupt a fitting or hose or ..... while underneath we get back to the CRUSHED TO DEATH comment.

RE: Buying First Motorhome - Help Please

While you can find class A MHs for under 20k it is difficult. A few lottery winners who got great deals does not also include the people who bought c*r*a*p got frustrated and quit RVing as they do not post here. Based on your budget and less than full time usage I would consider a fifth wheel or trailer as I believe it is more likely you can get a better unit with less issues. Of course if you still wish a class A I would search long and hard. Either way I wish you good luck as no matter what you choose the journeys will be wonderful.

RE: Passport America Lifetime, Thanks all, I'll pass

Passport America is a PIA Yes it pays for itself after a few uses, but there are so many restrictions and the restrictions vary widely. The discount is rarely available when you wish to visit. Their product just does not seem to be worth the hassle.

RE: Forest River Motorhomes RV One Superstores????

Forest River is going to try to spend as little money as possible to get us to accept the coach. Forest River needs to contact us, propose how they plan to repair the defects in our coach, get our approval to their plan, and then do what we settle on. We do not believe that poor craftsmanship is a warranty item that only the manufacturer gets to decide. 1. Yes they want to minimize their expenses while fixing the MH. 2. Actually I do not think that will be their interpretation of the warranty. 3. I think the manufacturer does get to determine the level of craftsman ship sold in their coach as long as things "work". I understand why you are as upset as you are especially considering the issues with the dealer, but I would change course and try to work with FR if I were you.
DanTheRVMan 05/09/13 10:34am Class A Motorhomes
RE: Forest River Motorhomes RV One Superstores????

The biggest issue is we are expected to blindly place our coach back into the hands of Forest River and whoever they deem to do the repairs with no discussion on how they intend to repair any of the items. As an example, On the sides of the slide outs there are black lines where the slide seals stuck to the slide out. The black is rubber torn loose from the slide seals because they were not properly serviced prior to closing the slides. How does Forest River intend to repair? Clean the sides of the slide and call it fixed? Replace and service the damaged slide seals. Which would you want? If I knew how to post pictures here I would, but if you want to see what I mean I'll be glad to forward the pictures. Send me an email privately with your email address. A manufacturer needs to evaluate the problems and then decide how to fix. They are unlikely to say how they will do this in advance. As long as they agree to a new dealer for you or repair at the factory then you need to find a way to work with them. They may have made mistakes, but you have to work with them not try to control them. Explain your concerns and see how they do. Your alternatives are lemon law, arbitration, or an attorney. Personally I think that would be counter productive and more stressful right now and a big mistake. You need to give them a chance to correct things.

RE: Forest River Motorhomes RV One Superstores????

WEll, we can even add to the "mystery" of this first post. You see the Berkshire doesn't even LIST for $262,000, but the OP says he's got a coach that cost him that much. He bought it in Orlando but picked it up in Buffalo? He's having so many problems with his coach and his dealer, yet so many of us who have dealt with both companies have had great responses from both the dealer and the manufacturer. Yep, something doesn't add up at all. Some of us have had absolutely horrible dealings with that dealer. Of all the dealers I dealt with it is the only one I do not trust. The worst I can say about several other dealers is they wanted to much money for the MH and that is just business. I would try again at all the other dealers I dealt with. I have had no dealings with the manufacturer.

RE: Gas Pods for an RV to improve gas milage?

Hey, let's not be so hard on the guy -- I think he's on to something. It says on the Web page that "for every gallon of gas saved, 19.4 lbs of CO2 are prevented from entering the atmosphere". Since a gallon of gas only weighs about six pounds, these things are obviously creating matter! the O2 part of CO2 is not in the gas it comes from the air. Since 2 Oxygens combine with the C in the gas you should expect the weight of CO2 to be a lot more than the gasoline. I would expect these silly thing may or may not provide some minimal improvement like air tabs

RE: LP Gas Odor question

The stoves LEAKS. They all do. I got scared once due to the smell. Spoke with a tech at stove manufacturer. I do not know if they want it this way, it is a non problem they live with or what, but it leaks. Turn the propane off when not in use I guess. I smell it at times and hope the tech has not steered me wrong. Been camping for 30 years. Have never once had a stove to leak, Never smell gas in the TT unless lighting the stove when I turn iot on. I'm thinkin, your tech ain't as smart as he wants you to think he is. Or maybe he don't like you. Or he just don't want to fix it. The stove is a very low pressure system to my understanding. I am not certain, but I think it is roughly 0.5 psi On at least some stoves they have a pressure relief system from what I have been told. These pressure relief valve release gas occasionally - not continuously. Some people can smell these occasional low level releases and some can not from what I was told. You go with that. If it helps you to sleep, and it may well help yopu to sleep I appreciate your comments. I think I was slightly wrong about the 1/2 psi as that was the stated max test pressure in a manual I read. Still operating pressure is close to that. Atmospheric pressure is roughly 14.5 psi at sea level at 2000 meters it is 20% lower or 2.9 psi. You need to get over 10,000 ft to get a 30% reduction in pressure. I am not sure exactly what springs and pressure relief devices are being used, but here is one excerpted example is taken from table 1 below: Special 1.5 to 3 psig (0,10 to 0,21 bar) 3 to 5 psig (0,21 to 0,34 bar) Standard 2 to 8-inches w.c. (5 to 20 mbar) 6 to 16-inches w.c. (15 to 40 mbar) 11-inches w.c. to 1 psig (27 mbar to 0,07 bar) 0.75 to 1.5 psig (0,05 to 0,10 bar) 1 to 2 psig (0,07 to 0,14 bar) 1.5 to 3 psig (0,10 to 0,21 bar) 3 to 5 psig (0,21 to 0,34 bar) Standard 2 to 8-inches w.c. (5 to 20 mbar) 6 to 16-inches w.c. (15 to 40 mbar) 11-inches w.c. to 1 psig (27 mbar to 0,07 bar) 0.75 to 1.5 psig (0,05 to 0,10 bar) 1 to 2 psig (0,07 to 0,14 bar) Special 1.5 to 3 psig (0,10 to 0,21 bar) which can be found at http://www.documentation.emersonprocess.com/groups/public/documents/bulletins/d100152x012.pdf My point is many of these pressure relief devices are set to lower levels than the change in air pressure that will be seen when camping. I do not like it, but I am not trying to justify it I am simply trying to inform. I wish I knew who used which rated devices, but I do not.

RE: Misleading avertising/ignorant sales people

You need to forget a motorhome and buy a 5th wheel style 3 horse trailer withupgraded living quarters and a Ford superduty diesel dually to pull it JMO....they make some very nice trailers like this and in this economy they are available for a fair frice Unfortunately I am trying to use the same vehicle for several purposes. I may want to pull my boat to some water and have that sort of outing or pull a 4WD out west and explore some remote areas. I would like to take the entire family so I would need a good size toad to hold everyone. The only affordable choices I have found are the new 4 Winds super C that has a 33,000lb GCWR and a 19,500lb GVWR or a used Renegade/Haulmark type. The 4 Winds super C seems to be in verly limited production still and I really can't see myself pulling up someone's field with a 43' Renegade on a class 8 chassis to ride horses or manuevering that rig around a boat ramp. I suspect that it also burns quite a bit more fuel and frankly and concerned with the cost of maintenance on a rig like that. Also, my boat is about 26" from the tip of the trailer to the tip of the engine. That could put me over legal length in most states. I worry that the 4 Winds chassis is marginal and that the long rear overhang would lead to undulations that would be rough on the trailer. It is frustrating to get so close to what I want and then find out that they saved a few dollars on the transmission and don't offer what really should be in there no matter how much more I pay. The Allison transmission is known for being stout so maybe it could be pushed a little beyond the ratings, especially if I watch the transmission temperature and drive conservatively. I do hate to spend that much money and then worry about it blowing up on me. Interestingly, the manufacturer's website was recently updated to show "10,000lbs Towing Capacity". Apparently their own marketing people were taken in by the misleading hype even that the factory rep says that everyone knows better than to take hitch rating as tow rating. I have brought that to his attention and will be interested to see how long it is before that is taken down. Well it sounds like you understand the towing issues. Now you just want an upgraded MH for the cost of a basic MH (you, me and everybody else).:B It is a lot more than a few dollars for the better transmission. Likely over a $10,000 option after all the mark ups and it likely comes with another $30,000 worth of stuff you may or may not want. You need to spend more, compromise on your needs like others and tow less, OR start shopping for a good used DP with lots of towing capacity in your budget. Wishing the MH manufactures sold you more for less ain't going to get you what you want.
