RE: Grand Rapids Mi RV Show

Both of the new motorhomes we've owned were bought as a result of the Grand Rapids RV show, however we didn't actually order at the show but dealt with the dealer later......much more relaxing that way. It is a good show compared to some of the larger ones we've been to in Florida and Arizona. Missed the show this year due to health issues with the DW.

RE: Truck Wash

There will be a guy who walks you in, tell him "No acid", hand him a $20. Watch them take special care with your coach.
Hadn't thought of that....good tip. First time I used BB they asked if I wanted toad done too, said sure and no extra charge was incurred. Think I got out of there for $38 total. My dealer charges $75 and he doesn't do as good a job.

Had mine washed at a Blue Beacon in Florida when it was 6 months old. Did a good job and no damages to the coach at all.

RE: Park model infestation

Check out this park in N. Fort Myers. Park model and RV areas pretty much separated for the most part. Stayed there a couple years ago - reasonably priced and close to most activities.

RE: mobile internet for RV

To get a Verizon or AT&T mifi type service for a short period of time does not make any sense. Both companies will want you to sign a 2 year contract.
Really ? Verizon has a "pay-as-you-go" plan where you can purchase either daily, weekly or monthly service without a long term commitment.
I use this plan with my Verizon mifi or air card for short trips.

RE: 2012 Dinghy Towing Guide

I just received the 2012 Dinghy towing guide with my Motorhome magazine. I like to run through the vehicles just to see what the different manufacturers are offering.
The one that caught my eye as being a big pain in the bottom is the Ford Escape 4 and 6 cylinder units. It says that the transmission fluid level must be lowered during four-wheel-down towing.
Are they kidding? How would you 'just lower' the fluid level? Do you put back the same fluid when you're ready to drive?:h
To me, that car shouldn't have been offered for four-wheel-down towing. I can see removing a fuse or even adding a pump to the transmission, but who is going to remove fluid?
MM.
This forum is for opinions and you are definitely entitled to yours. Up until the midyear of the 2012 model, the Ford Escape was certified towable by Ford and warranted as such. Lowering the transmission fluid was a precaution to prevent the fluid from overheating while towing. The so-called "lowering" was only to the minimum level on the dip stick and It could be left there once adjusted. I have towed mine for close to three years now with no problems and it's an excellent daily driver also.
DandSW, hate to bust your bubble, but I was talking about the 2012-2013 (new style), not your 2010. Different animal with a different transmission. It is noted that Ford changed their minds on four wheel down towing on the new units and issued a supplement. I think the hybrid version is towable on the new model.
MM.
No bubble busted. Your post I answered talked about how it's silly to lower the fluid level. If you were talking the 2013 model, the post was wrong anyway since it can not be towed and lowering the fluid is moot. BTW, the 2012 model has the same engine/transmission as mine, the 2013 is all new. Ford just de-certified it for towing mid way thru the year.

RE: V 10 Ford

That engine is bullet-proof, I've had two of them with absolutely no problems but anything can happen. I couldn't begin to speculate on what caused it, perhaps lack of maintenance ?

RE: Looking for AZ. RV trip recommendations

Blanco 1 - Think you've got a pretty good list there. There are many sights and attractions to see in Arizona. As others have stated, it will be hit or miss on the weather in some of those places at that time of year but enjoy. We were at the Grand Canyon a couple years ago in early February and it was a beautiful day in the 40's and sunny. The next day a storm dumped 9-10" of snow in that area. Just keep an eye on the weather.

Well, I am old but definitely not hard of hearing. If you hear noise from your shower head - more power to you. Thanks for the lesson on pressure.

RE: What companys make RV washer/dryers stackable one's

Assume you're talking about the "spin" cycle vibration. Pretty hard to get rid of but it can be minimized with proper anchoring and vibration pads. I had a good installation at my dealer and all I feel is a very slight vibration. The rest of the cycles and the dryer cycle - I have to check to even know they are running.

RE: What companys make RV washer/dryers stackable one's

The plumbing shut-off was moved to the basement, (you'll probably find that once your 24" appliances are in place, the hook-ups are rendered inaccessible).
I certainly wouldn't want that set-up. Something else to worry about freezing up in cold weather ?? As to the accessibility of the shut-offs and connections, my shelf arrangement allows full access to both and the drain hose set-up from the front and I don't have to go outside to shut off the water. it also allows for a shelf on top of the washer for storage of washing supplies, etc. Guess it depends how the manufacturer installs the rough in plumbing,

RE: What companys make RV washer/dryers stackable one's

One word of caution: Do not stack them! Rather put the dryer on its own shelf above the washer.
That's exactly the way mine are installed.

RE: What companys make RV washer/dryers stackable one's

My washer and dryer are Whirlpool model LHW0050PQ4 & Whirlpool model LDR3822PQ1. Very satisfied with them and wouldn't be without this set-up in any coach. Work much better than the combo units.

RE: Oxygenics shower head

Too bad you didn't post this last summer. I installed one in our Jayco and it lasted one camping trip. They spray a hard mist and are very noisy.
Wow - first negative post I think I've seen on the Oxygenics shower head. What noise ??? They do spray a strong stream if you don't throttle it back with an extra shut-off control like I installed but I wouldn't consider it noisy. I think it's a major upgrade to most stock shower heads and it saves water.

I'd like to thank all those that won't stay at a KOA....believe me lots of us do and we appreciate being able to get a site. I say the same to the Flying J haters...easier to get to the pumps if they are not there.

RE: Ford Escape Report

My understanding is that it is just a matter of time before the transmission will fail. It is the same transmission that they will not warrant and now state that it is not towable 4 down so go figure what your chances are.
rondeb - while I understand your thinking I'm not sure failure is inevitable on all vehicles. There are a vast number of us towing four-down with no problems. That transmission is problematic for a lot of other issues not related to towing, as I've found on various Escape forums, so it obviously isn't one of Ford's better efforts. In the meantime, I still have the warranty coverage for another 2-3 years in case I have problems.

RE: Ford Escape Report

Thanks for the information. I will be contacting my dealer in the near future to see what he has to say. I had heard of Ford installing the pump after a transmission failure in some cases, but hadn't heard they were going to be pro-active. My Escape was built in Feb. 2010 so I should qualify if your info is correct. BTW, I have had NO problems towing four down in over two years now.

RE: Ford Escape Report

Read the above information regarding the Ford part numbers and contact your Ford dealer. Ford has the Remco pumps available with their own Part numbers to install on Escapes built before 2-27-12 and are being towed 4 down. If your local dealer does not know, have them contact Ford Motor Co.
Are you saying Ford will install the pump free of charge ??
