RE: Replacement Shock Suggestions

I am with SM. I put a couple of Bills on the back of the old F250 at 125K. Peer pressure from this board got me. :S
I could not tell the difference.

RE: Good bye V10. What should be next?

It seems that no matter what the subject is a bunch of folks say go with F 350.
Ya got me.
I tow our 11.5K fifth wheel with the 6.2 and 4.30 diffy. Works great for me.
One thought - with the 6 speed you can probably be at about the same rpm in 5th with the 3.73 and then still have the cruising gear for running empty. I think I shoulda went that route.

RE: 30 amp service in garage

When I am backed up to the garage for load up and unloading and cleaning, I run the fifth wheel cord back in the garage and use an adapter to plug into one of the 20 amp receptacles. Never had a problem with the AC.

RE: Enjoying camping this weekend and...crash!

Maybe the moral of the story is to not haul along cinder blocks or a ton or two of wood blocks to create a hazard. :h

RE: Longest Satisfactory Use of Easy Lube Axles?

I had problems and I greased it very carefully per instructions. I just put new brakes on and WILL NOT use the EZ-lube again. I also, found a pitted bearing once. You really need to check, these are made in China bearings after all.Replace with Timken Bearings and wave China byebye.
Where do you think Timkens are made?

RE: Full Synthetic or Synthetic Blend

I use what Ford recommends but change it sat 5000.
My truck should outlast me so what is the use of having full synthetic in it?
Just me, wait a minute, I need to equate the savings to brewskies. :W

RE: Might be forced to buy Diesel

Wow Gator, what kind of a fifth wheel are you gonna tow?
The Ford F250 is rated to yank 15000 (as I recall) with a gasser. If you need a diesel and got the bucks then that is what you need to get. It is all about what makes one happy.

Pumping to fast is not as much of a problem as knowing when to stop.

Man, I did not know that you could even get the drive train warmed up in 300 miles. :W

so were they 16" E rated? That is what came on my fifth wheel and I have had no problems thus far for 3 years.

RE: Rear-end lube change

Different strokes, but if I were changing the diffy oil and the diff had a removable pan, I would take it off.
All the bad stuff, if any, will be on the bottom.

RE: Recommendations for RV Garage?

Considering your personal needs and the local codes, you could consider an unheated pole barn. it is what fits your needs.

RE: Fifth Wheel Capabilities Truck

Looking at GM online fleet ordering guide CLICKY LINK shows your 2500 Chevy WT has 3500-3600 lbs payload. The truck will have no problems carrying that trailers pin weight.
Now the deal killer is GM say the '12 2500 WT 6.0 4x4 short bed 3.73 has a 9800 lb tow rating (4.10 gears = 14300 lb)
IMO any smallblock pulling over 12k will not make for a comfortable towing experience. The truck will struggle at those loads. I would stick with a 10k wet weight trailer.
OK I give, give me an example of a 2012 LARGE block.
OP if you got a 6 speed you should be fine in towing with 5th most of the time.

RE: Water in Fuel

I got my money on the sensor system having a problem. However instead of messing around on the keyboard I would catch some fuel and look. Water will be totally separated and show up in the bottom of the catch jar.
By the way, when I had a diesel I put an extension hose on the bottom of the drain tube and zip tied it secure so I always had easy access.
Flying J just could not afford to be pumping water in those big company rigs. :h

RE: I think I've got the answer

I have never had my fridge not work because my trailer was not level, just saying. I think the level issue is grossly exaggerated. There have been many times I got it only eyeball level and I know it was off.
yeah, I am with you on that gypsie. However if I feel like I am gonna roll out of bed, it is time to do something. :W

RE: 5th Wheel Travel with Large Dogs

Our two labs have plenty of room on the back seat of the crew cab. no kids involved - they both have grey in their hair. :W
Anyhow I ordered a custom form fitting seat cover from etrailer - turned out great. Protects the seat and the hair does not get stuck in it.
