RE: Volunteer opportunity in SE Alaska

For 22 years we lived 100 miles from the nearest WM or anything else worth shopping at (Costco) Now we live over 100 miles from same.....at least it was not a shock to the system when we settled up here in the wilds of Idaho :B:W

RE: closed topic

Joe is correct......
In addition, the Amazon topics have tended to become private message boards, and that is not the intent of this forum.

RE: RVing with Livestock?

I know you love your animals, I did too....raised horses, cattle, pigs and my chickens were my best friends :B
Once we hit the road, I realized that the responsibility for those animals was tremendous, 25 hours a day, 8 days a week! I would not want goats with me as they are definitely escape artists! But chickens...I would love to have had a hen...DH nixed that :B
I would doubt you would be very welcome most places......

RE: Question for ladies

Some guides will not take women into bear country at that time of the month for just that reason.
Sounds like my DAD :M He did not like to take me hunting once I reached that age because of "maybe" having a period :M (His excuse for not wanting a woman along :E:M)
Turns out I am the (ONLY) hunter among 4 siblings! He was an avid hunter and once I was married and went hunting with my DH and him...he realized it :M

RE: Is a GMC 3500 enough for a 18,500# Teton

We pulled our 39' 19000# Teton (GVWR 20,000#) with a Freightliner FL60:B and would never suggest anything less :E Even a 450 is not enuf truck (which we pulled a 1600# with).
Case in point....we were coming down the grade in WY from ID to Landers. The fiver brakes failed and it was all THAT truck could do to get the fiver stopped before we were launched:E I can't conceive of ANY pickup stopping or even slowing it down :E
Don't do it......

RE: Volunteering for a full timer

Many use a generic notice....the best plan of action is to contact the specific area you are interested in for current information.

RE: Volunteering for a full timer

Kirk is correct. I was instrumental in gathering information on refuges and hatcheries which utilize rver's and have sites for volunteers. Many are not on that list. Many are not listed anywhere, and it took much research to ferret out those that are not. My information was turned over to the appropriate person who was going to create a website, but that never happened.

RE: Ham Radio as a hobby?

There just aren't as many people on the air, now. as there used to be. It gets old just listening to white noise.
Wow, don't know where you are, but we have been all over the US and DH has never lacked for folks to "talk" to. He is very active on CW (Morse code) and works the world, literally. Right now he is working a fellow in east Russia......:B He doesn't lack for voices, either.

RE: Ham Radio as a hobby?

My DH did it for 13 years in a fiver....9 years fulltiming. The bedroom vanity area was his shack. Can't tell you about the equipment, but little was portable and he carried multiple antennas as well as at least 4 radios and associated equipment.
It is a terrific hobby and certainly fits with the fulltime life.

RE: Considering full-timing with 6 kids... are we nuts?

If you already have a TT, why not go on a 4-6 week trial run? You have the means to do that, and then reevaluate. It should give you time to see if it would work.
Question....do your kids get along, now? There will be no escape living this lifestyle and you can't just send them out to play and run wild in most cgs and parks.
I would think the constant noise in an extremely small space would be a deal breaker, but these opinions are just me......you will be working, what about your wife? She will bear the brunt of everything.
