RE: Where are all the Truck Campers ?

I don't see many out my way unless I get down to a surf fishing area that allows TCs.

RE: How to enjoy packing for a trip

Leaving in a few hours. Camper kept mostly packed from our last trip a couple of weeks ago. So much anticipation only to have this 3-day weekend trip end too soon...

RE: How to enjoy packing for a trip

To some extent, we maintain two households. I have several sets of 'camp clothes' in the TC, swapping out dirty for clean when we return, two stocked liquor cabinets, two sets of tools (obviously not complete in the TC), etc. It does make the packing a bit easier and I, too, enjoy the anticipation of a weekend trip. We have 10 or 12 planned for the rest of the year. Sometimes, upon return, we leave the fridge loaded and simply plug in to keep it cool and ready for the next adventure.

RE: Campfires: Love them or hate them?

Half the places we camp allow fires and we bring wood in our front hitch carrier and have the fire. A couple of campgrounds (parking lots) don't and we don't. One place even has a notice not to make a camp fire in the barbeque grill. Must have been an issue for them to feel it necessary to post the sign.

RE: Front hitch receiver

Now and again, if I'm carrying a big load of firewood, my EZPass will be blocked but the 'authorities' always seem to track me down and get their toll money. Nothing (including bikes on a bike rack) seem to block my headlights. I guess they're too far right and left to be blocked by anything on my carrier.

RE: Front hitch receiver

I have one on the front of my F450 and have never had an issue with overheating. I use it to carry bikes or firewood. When using the cargo carrier for firewood, I install a couple of markers so that I know approximately where it is in front of me. Not a problem when I use the bike carrier.

RE: What size Olympian Wave Heater?

I, too, use a Wave 3 but rather than permanently mount it, I purchased the leg kit, connected it in to the Lance regulated gas outlet and use a 6 foot extension hose to move it where it may most needed (our feet under the dinette) I only take it with us when we'll be off the grid and unable to use a space heater.

RE: Any winter campers out there?

We go year round. Weekend here, weekend there. We haven't had a winter, though. I winterized for a week or so just at the start of this year. Since then, I've flushed out the pink stuff and just run a space heater + I keep a light bulb burning in the tank valve compartment. We're headed out again next weekend.

RE: what speed do you maintain on the highway ?

I generally do not drive over 60 unless the speed limit is 65 in which case I'll push it up to near the limit. But, I try to avoid any highway with a limit over 60. As I get older, I recognize that my reaction times and vision are not what they once were so I've modified my driving habits accordingly.

RE: The story of Bear...and his eulogy

Something I just read, posted by another.
"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...."

RE: Nominations for Best & Worst Thread of the Month

I find it hard to believe that anyone, let alone a moderator, would anticipate that there would be flaming, name-calling and general bad feelings of a TC forum thread. Tell me it ain't true...

RE: Arctic Fox 1150 or Lance 1191

I've had my 2008 1191 since it was about 6 months old. It had been purchased by an older gentleman who was shortly thereafter moved into a nursing home by his children. Their story was that he had begin to lose his ability to rationally think and never should have made the purchase - happens to many older people and might happen to me as well...
Long story, short. I ended up getting essentially a brand new camper for just over half retail and also got a nice value for my trade...a deal I couldn't walk away from. Since that purchase I have been more than happy. The side door and the ease of use when the slide is in were major selling point but the price would have turned my head from almost any other option.
I carry this heavy camper on my signature F450.

RE: No RV parking – are we RV’s?

With the crew cab and large camper, I'm hard pressed to fit in a 'regular' car spot. But, as another poster stated, if I can back in to reduce my overall length, I will. If the parking lot is relatively empty, I'll use two end-to-end spots.

RE: Under My Lance 1191

Sounds like a good idea when I go back in to complete the job. Putting up the whole 8' section by myself was a contortionist's nightmare. Thanks for the idea.

RE: Under My Lance 1191

Welds all looked strong. I added piping insulation as well as fiberglass batting. I may go with Dave's insulation boards when I go back in during the summer. Other than the leak that I wasn't able to access yet, I was pleased with the solid underbelly construction. Lucky construction day for me I guess.

Under My Lance 1191

While searching for a leak in my black tank flush system, I pulled off the bottom of my 2008 Lance 1191. Here are some photos of what's hidden down there. BTW, I found where the leak is coming from but it looks like a summer job (requiring complete removal of the fresh water tank for access).
All of these shots are looking up, from front to rear. I was particularly pleased with the substantial tank supports.

Just under fresh tank, looking aft.
