RE: Yokohama tires not happy

I ran Yokohamas on my old TV from 2004 up until just this year. No issues.

RE: Mt Rushmore

I agree about the KOA--it's close to Mt Rushmore and there's a lot for the children to do...pool, horseback riding, etc. Also, they have a restaurant, a snack area--pizza, ice cream, etc. and they serve an inexpensive pancake breakfast in a huge tent. Agree with above. It's been 9 years since we were there but our kids were about the same age as yours are now. While I know adults may prefer the "ambiance" of places like Rafter J Bar and so forth, your kids are going to remember what THEY did at the CG. The (Palmer Gulch) KOA also offers free shuttle service to and from the monument, and be sure to take in the nighttime lighting ceremony - very impressive. An earlier reply noted the road to this KOA was curvy - it is easily negotiable as long as one observes the posted speed limits.

RE: Travel through Maryland on I-95

Bay Bridge-Tunnel, for sure. Nice drive. Congestion on I-95 doesn't ease up until you are south of Fredericksburg, IMHO.

RE: Atlanta Suggestions (Stone Mountain Park)

The "premier" sites by the pool were packed in tight. I did not see the appeal to those. Neither did I but we were there for only two nights. Little to no shade, too.

RE: Places to see in Wyoming and Montana

We thoroughly enjoyed Lewis & Clark Caverns in Cardwell. And if you have the time, your Buick will easily handle the dirt road to the (supposed) ghost town of Elkhorn. Interesting.

RE: Atlanta Suggestions (Stone Mountain Park)

Like dodge guy, my review is also in rvparkreviews.com (we visited in July of last year). Agree with other responses - how level your site is depends on the site you get. We were in the loop around the pool; our back-in site was level side-to-side and pitched just a bit front to back. I didn't think the roads were all that narrow - I've seen worse.

RE: Klamath falls OR

Collier Memorial, no question. Full hookups, plenty of room for your rig and gorgeous setting.

RE: Water won't boil??

Adding salt increases the temperature at which water will boil. Any impurity will increase the point water will boil. It may boil at 214F or more. High altitude will lower temperature at which water will boil due to lower atmospheric pressure. It may boil at 200 or less. That is why things such as pasta take longer to cook in boiling water at high altitudes. Right on the money. Plus, stoves in older RV's may not be as robust as those in newer rigs. We found this out the hard way in our old Coleman pop-up. It took FOREVER to prepare our lobster dinner............

RE: This Makes Me A Sad Panda.......

normally the rail line manager tells the rail crew he wants that train wreck cleared up and new temp rails laid down by next week. we are losing money each hr no trains are running!!!! so get that crap, {cargo (whatever it is) and damaged rail cars} off the right of way and get me new rails laid, I want to see money making trains running. we will send the bill to the insurance company now getting cracking. I can almost hear this conversation taking place!!!!! Bang!! Nail hit on the head. Time is money in the transportation business.

RE: Do we set ourselve up for failure/disappointment?

We took three cross-country trips with our kids of 32 days or more. Rather than "trip of a lifetime" the perspective was "as long as we have the opportunity we're going to do this!" and to us getting there (where ever "there" is) should be at least half the fun. For the record none of the trips was without tense moments or some kind of issue related to the truck or trailer, however nothing even came close to spoiling the good times. In retrospect, the first of the three was the best. It was not the longest in terms of miles or days, nor was it the trip on which we saw the most sights, etc. Rather it was the realization of how huge this country is and what a wealth of things there is to see and do, regardless of individual interests. The trip is what you make of it, and often the "trip of a lifetime" doesn't make itself apparent until after the fact. JMHO

RE: Can a 2008 Toyota Sequoia 5.7L tow a Salem 33' TT

As others have noted, the payload is the Achilles heel for the Sequoia (see my sig). Our TT is just over 6K loaded and ready to roll and the Sequoia handles it easily. Now, having said that...... What model is your Sequoia? What power options do you have? What wheel size do you have? In my research prior to purchasing (in Feb. '09) our SR-5 I noted a couple of things. First, the 20 inch wheel option reduces your tow rating. Second, higher trim lines (Limited & Platinum) often come with power seats all the way around and power folding 3rd row seats. This also reduces your tow rating. IMHO you need to take your Toyota to a scale and weigh it, then run your calculations again.

RE: Sailor Gal Update

Old-Biscuit .... Nope, not caught up with the Nimitz yet. RDWIII - Tiger Cruise - wild horses will not keep DW from showing up for a Tiger Cruise at the very first opportunity. I'll be going along - you betcha. Thanks to all for your kind comments.

RE: Stone Mountain information

We were in the loop around the pool; as a group probably the most level sites in the park but very little shade for most of the day. Plug in a voltmeter and keep tabs on line voltage when the weather is real hot & humid (yeah, I know - it's GEORGIA.....). Voltage was down by 10% during our visit.

RE: Klamath Falls, Oregon

Collier Memorial State Park - no question. Our visit was in 2009 and it was without a doubt in the top 5% of the nicest state parks we've seen anywhere. Bathroom/shower facilities impeccably clean. Grounds well-groomed and totally free of litter. Gorgeous forest setting and a crystal-clear river flows through the park. Hiking trails. Full hook-up sites. In '09 it was $21 per night. The Logging Museum that is adjacent (and still under development I imagine) has an incredible collection of equipment spanning the history of the Western logging industry.

RE: %#$&# salesman

The buyer was ignorant.....not necessarily his fault since he's new at this and all, but yes, should have done his homework. The salesman was irresponsible, period.

RE: World's Largest RV Show: Worth the Trip?

I get there as often as I can (it's close) and I'm not even in the market for a new TT. Lots to look at - I doubt you'll be disappointed. It's neat to look at what's new in the industry and I get a chuckle out of the sales people..........

Sailor Gal Update

Today is May 16, 2013......exactly 2 years ago today we watched DD leave for Navy boot camp @ Great Lakes. Last Friday she finally exited "the pipeline" with her graduation from Prototype in Saratoga Springs NY. So what's next? Tomorrow a.m. we bid good-bye again as she heads for Washington state; she's been assigned to the USS Nimitz. Bittersweet, but mom & dad Navy proud.
