RE: RV Storage in Arizona

I live south of Tucson so not as hot as Yuma. No way can I afford the indoor storage. Maybe if I was in the income bracket to have a 100,000 + rig I could put out the dollars, so my lowly trailer and fifth wheel (still for sale) sits in the open. In a year and a half, so far, I see no ill effects. The main thing I do see is graphics fading and that kind of problem. All I know is that I see 1000's of rigs in the open so I can't believe they are all incurring huge amounts of damage. And all the rigs at dealers lots sit in the open...

RE: Front Living (Which one)

I've heard good things about the Infinity but have not seen one. I would take the Cardinal over the Montana for the reasons you have mentioned. Generally speaking, the Cardinal is well built fiver that many full-time in. Montana is not in the same class (OK, let the Montana lovers have at it). The prices difference between the Cardinal and the others may be in amenities. I always thought the Cardinal was more expensive.

RE: Can I hang cabinets and shelves?

The problem you will find in hanging cabinets in a trailer not so equipped is finding studs that will support the cabinets. When manufactured, trailers are usually reinforced where cabinets will be hung. You will just be hoping there is enough strength in the walls to support a cabinet and its content. I'd shy away from any trailer that doesn't generally have what you want you in the way of cabinets...

RE: Springdale TT

We owned a Springdale 25' trailer before going full-time and loved it. We never had one problem with it and towed it 1000's of miles. When we got "off the road" and wanted another small trailer to go to the near-by parks we looked at Springdales but just couldn't find one with the floor plan we wanted so bought a Hideout, which looks and feels very similar to the Springdale. I think Springdales are a great trailer--and yes, they are considered entry level--but see nothing wrong with that unless you plan to live in it and subject it to constant heavy use. They aren't built for that.

RE: Checking out El Monte rental sales

All I know (and I shouldn't admit this) is that my son rented a MH when we traveled together on an RV trip to Yellowstone. He drove that MH to places I would never take one...rough roads, steep grades. The generator wasn't working correctly but he ran it the way it was. I'm not advocating his practice, but I sure wouldn't buy a rental if they are treated that way month in, year in and out. My son only used it for two weeks...but months or years? I'd be scared to death to buy one.

RE: If you were a Snowbird, where would you stay?

Gotta go with the majority: Florida or Mexico if you are looking for really warm. We chose AZ because we come from OR and love the west. But it does get cold at night and no 90's during the day in the winter. It's still mild and wonderful.

RE: Another question on residency

You may have to break down your questions in several threads. You may get a better response that way. In general, you have to decide where you are going to reside. Period. You can't bounce around to try to avoid taxes. That is the way you will be caught. If you buy in OR and move to SD, you will pay the 3% on your rig. No getting around it. You can own property anywhere but if it produces income you will have to pay taxes to that state. Most states have legal requirements for how long you can reside in the state before you are a resident. For instance, if you buy and live in OK six months, you could be considered an OK resident and you will have to pay taxes accordingly. Don't know if that's true but it is in AZ.
My opinion: if you only plan to be full-time for a year or so it is going to be easier and just as cheep to stay OR residents. Changing is very involved and you will be off the road before it is all done. That's what I found out. We were OR residents and just decided it was easier to stay there until we got off the road and then became AZ residents. If you sell your house get the DMV "Permanent Travelers" designation, then you can use a mail forwarding place as your domicile. We used Mailforwarding.com in Jefferson. They were very helpful.

RE: Delamination

Yep, just cosmetic and won't hurt a thing. Only problem is that it might keep growing as heat causes it to continue delaminating. We have a similar issue on our fiver and it has not gotten any larger in three years...

RE: RV Parks and Large Dogs

Other have explained it well. Your dog may be very docile, gentle and quiet. But if they let yours in they have to let the non-gentle, vicious 100# in that the next camper has. And that dog can do far more damage than a 20# dog. It is just the way it is. Rules have to be made for everyone. No way can a receptionist at the desk decide which dog is gentle and which isn't.

RE: snowbirding

You might want to check out the Escapees Forum, also. A lot of those folks winter in Texas as that is where the Escapees headquarters is located. RGV is certainly the most popular. Rockport and the coast areas also get a lot of snow birders. It is great to be on the water---but you pay for it with the wind.
We spent a couple months in Texas when we were checking out where we wanted to winter and chose the Tucson area. I love the cacti and the desert. Now we have moved and bought a S& B in Green Valley, AZ.

RE: Arctic Fox 245N

I have checked NADA on many 5th wheels for sale. All NADA pricing is below asking prices I have seen. When I blogged this fact, I heard from many that they have found this true also. Maybe because there seems to be a demand for the smaller units which drives the prices up?
True, NADA may be low on asking price... but we're talking buying price. I have never paid more than NADA price and never will. Used RV's are notoriously over priced, quite often double what they will actually take.

RE: Equalizer Maiden Voyage

Thank you for your info as we have an equalizer and do not pick our new TT until May 9 but after checking out hitches this seemed to be one of the better ones.
Have a good year of camping!
Do you have an equalizer (generic term) or an Equal-i-zer ( brand name)? They are not the same critter.

RE: Bar Harbor Camping

We spent a month at Timberlands a couple years ago and really enjoyed it--cost was far less than the KOA's and stuff real close to Acadia. Free shuttle to the park and Bar Harbor, Friendly people. We stayed about 3/4's the way down on the left side of the main road. It was nice but nothing fancy. I would recommend it. I know nothing about Smuggler's Den.

RE: Registering Trailer in a State Other Than Actual Residency

You may not be getting the straight scoop from your friend...or he needs to check to see if something is wrong. We have a 2011 23' Keystone Hideout that we just registered in AZ for $260. and it will go down every year. So $700 sounds way off the mark...

RE: New trailer, looking for opinions?

While OSB has water resistant glue it can swell terribly if it gets wet. I would use exterior plywood. Older trailers were built very light so I, too would be concerned about laminate. It's heavy and it will also swell if it gets wet. I'd stick with vinyl flooring. You can hardly tell some of the newer vinyl with a wood pattern from laminate.

RE: Black tank won't drain...

Happened to me once when I had no access to buying something to fix it. I finally just sacrificed a hose, stuck it down the toilet, turned the hose on, and swung it around and around on the bottom of the tank until it hit the clog. It freed it up. I'm not recommending this but it worked when i was in a jam. I did buy the Flush King kind of thing afterwards!

RE: Dog friendly parks Cape Cod-Maine

We stayed a month at Timberland Acres in Trenton, just minutes from Bar Harbor. Free shuttle to the park and Bar Harbor. We loved it there. They actually had people in the park who would take your dog for a walk or let it out to do it's thing for a minimal amount. If it were closer to Tucson, AZ, we would spend the summer there every year. We loved it. Great park, an easy drive to all the sites around the NP and prices far, far less than the KOA and those even closer to the park.

Can't speak to your Keystone but we put a full length mattress in our Arctic Fox and it also pushed slightly against the dresser when all the way in but never affected the slide.

RE: Want to run my WD setup through you guys

Sounds like you are on the right track. The whole point of equalization is to keep the truck as level as possible or as close to the original level. It's to keep enough weight on the steering. Air bags won't in any way defeat that or take weight off the bars. They may help the back end from bouncing if your springs are too weak for the trailer. Give it a try. If it drives well, all is well. You're not dealing with sway, just with keeping control by keeping weight on the front end. Sounds to me like you are doing that.

RE: BestTime to Buy

I have always maintained that their is no best time to buy. It all depends on the specific unit you are looking at and all that goes into the dealers motivation to move it. You won't get a great price on a hot seller, but one that has been on the lot for awhile will go for less, etc., etc. That's why you can find the same rig at two different dealers for $1000s difference--it just depends on how bad the dealer wants to sell it. You will get a better price by not worrying about the time of year but by knowing exactly what you want and then shopping dealers over as wide a range as you can to get the best deal.
