RE: I Need to Vent!!!

Similar instance when I bought my coach. Dealer was great, awesome deal, easy to work with. Only a few dealers sell ACEs so I went there. Initially service was great despite the 60 mi drive. Fast forward, 6 mos later and the entire service area was gutted and service manager gone. Their service went from OK to horrible. Luckily I found a Thor dealer right across the street from my office - how about that. They don't sell the ACE but certainly work on them as well as under Thor warranty. They are GREAT to deal with. Happy, helpful, quick, and reasonable. So now I just drive it to work and drop it off. I'll still go through the other guy for my next coach cuz he's cheap, but I'll stick with the guys across the street for service. That's the catch. A lot of dealerships will work on your coach but if you didn't buy it there you are last in line. Not with these guys. They don't care. Happy to have the work. I wish they had the units I want I would buy from them. Moral of the story, there are plenty of dealers. Find one that works for you not against you.

RE: Thor quality

My wife and I own a 2013 Palazzo 33.2. We absolutely love it. This is our second new Thor coach. Any issues, you take it to the factory and they correct it plus. My wife would not consider any other coach. We love our coach!!!! Hey Hound, tried to PM you but couldn't. Would you mind PM'ing me? We are shopping the Palazzo and would love to hear some real world feedback about the ride, noise, comfort, mileage etc and overall review of your ownership with it. Thanks!

RE: Electric Steps

Also, check the ground. Mine would act erratically and I checked the ground wire and found it was mounted to the back of the step box whick I don't even think is steel. I think it's aluminum. I moved it to the frame and it worked perfectly since.

RE: Need a quick measurement from any ACE 29.1 owner

Oh, also need from the floor to the top of the cleats/boards that the table rests on when in bed position. If no one can help I guess I'll have to put off another day. Thought about it after I was 10 miles down the road to the office. oh well.

RE: I did the "Cheap Handling Fix"!

The F53 chassis is used for a lot of purposes. Since Ford doesn't really know what a particular chassis will be used for they come with ability to adjust. But they also come set in the softer setting. What has me scratching my head is why MH manufacturers don't move them when they build the coach or why the dealers don't do it. I wonder how many folks passed up on buying a unit based on ride that they otherwise may have bought if it was adjusted. It's free, takes minutes to do and makes a huge difference.

RE: I did the "Cheap Handling Fix"!

My 2008, F53 seems to handle just fine so either I know nothing about a nice ride or we own a fluke. Please tell me exactly what is accomplished by doing the fix. What will be better than before. Thank you. The house doesn't sway as much on bumpy roads. With a little practice, I have found cross wind handling is improved too. Can't find any related threads. Forum search seems a bit broken right now. It cuts down on a lot of wander, dead spots in the steering, truck push and rocking.

Need a quick measurement from any ACE 29.1 owner

I need a measurement from anyone with an ACE 29.1. I am ordering my CASS Hudson dream dinette kit today and darned if I didn’t forget to take the measurements before heading into the office. I think all I need is the measurement from the floor of the dinette to the bottom of the window. Can anyone assist? Thanks

RE: Best place to buy replacement awning fabric

14' awning. Need 13'2" of actual material. I should have mentioned that. The carefree looks like a better than the OEM with the denim weave and 2 sided color. I'll get a price from CW but from what I usually see they are expensive.

RE: Best place to buy replacement awning fabric

Try rvawningsmart.com I am about to order a replacement fabric from them Clicky http://rvawningsmart.com/ Looks like they only have stripes and fades. I need solid.

RE: Best place to buy replacement awning fabric

Update - called carefree, they do still make the solid colors. It's called denim print and it's both sided which is nice. Black or brown. Now, is CW the only place to order or do a lot of places carry?

Best place to buy replacement awning fabric

The cheap white awning on my ACE has become pretty stained and shabby looking and starting to show thin spots near the top. So I want to replace it. Found plenty of places that sell them, CW seems to be a little pricier than some others. It's a carefree electric awning. What I am having trouble with is finding solid colors. Seems like they all have stripes. I want something dark and solid that won't show dirt as much. I know they make them because the ACE models with paint come in all black. I am Ok sticking with vinyl to keep costs down. Any sugestions?

RE: Off brand ATV's

I'd look at used name brands. Suggest you get one for yourself while you're at it. Have fun. Believe me I am a name brand guy. The problem is that a used Honda TRX90 that's even 5 years old is over $1000.00. I can get a brand new 110cc off brand for $399. Apples and oranges, or is it... I was doing some reading that off brands now share a lot of the same parts with different stickers as the name brands. And if I got a used brand name I would have to pay someone to work on it, but the cheap one at least would have a warranty. Seems to me, that if he gets 2 years out of it I'd be way better off getting the cheapo. If he turns out to be a great MX rider I would not hesitate investing in a good piece of equipment. But I don't want to bite that bullet unless I have to. He has a nice bicycle because even good kids bikes are still under $300. A good atv could set me back thousands. But most assuredly it would not be safe for him to ride alone ;) Daddy would have to have one too. Further exacerbates my cost issue though.

RE: Gutters

I had this discussion with my neighbor. We live in a heavily wooded area. I went with cheap Lowes screen guards and installed them myself. Probably only paid $100. 6 Autumns later I have not had a single clog. My neighbor went the expensive route and had the top cover models installed. Cost him about $3500. I would think you could almost hire an immigrant worker to live on the roof and keep it clean 24/7 for that. He said they look nicer. Maybe. Can't remember the last time I pulled up to anyone's house and thought "nice gutters". I mean the ones I installed you can't even see. Anyway, the problem with his fancy top cover models in that in a hard rain they flow over. The rain goes pretty heavy into the beds around his house. To each his own. I have had great luck and spent very little money with the Lowes Cheapos.

Off brand ATV's

Let me preface by saying I know little about motorcycles or atvs. I've ridden them, friends have had them etc, but never owned one. My son who is 9 expressed an interest in getting a 4 wheeler or dirt bike. We have several acres of wooded property so it makes sense we could have something like that. Prices on new or even used brand name bikes (Yamaha, Honda, KTM) etc are way too much money to spend on something that we aren't even sure if he'll take to it, and if he does I imagine he'll grow out of what he can fit now pretty soon. There are quite a few places around that sell off brand ones. Something his size in the 90-110cc category can be had for 1/3 of what a brand name one would sell for. I hear they can break easier, makes sense but they carry a warranty and the local shops assure me they can get parts pretty readily. I am a firm believer in getting what you pay for as I have raced bicycles for years and know the value of a high end bike. But he's 9. I mean seriously how long will he have it? Seems to me that saving a LOT of money to ease him into it makes much more sense than getting a used one at 3x the price for a name brand which I would have to pay a mechanic anyway. I did have a cousin that had an off brand atv and said they had no issues with it. Ran hard and lasted until they sold it. Anyone have thoughts?

RE: Boondocking at Walmart

As others have said we see this topic almost weekly. What I still can't fathom is why it's such a heated debate. If someone wants to stay at a WM and they let them, who cares? I don't get it. One of the coolest things about an RV is it's a rolling apartment. You can stay anywhere. And if that anywhere is ok with the management, what's all the fuss about? I really don't understand why folks get their knickers all in a twist about what other folks are doing. You do your thing and let everyone else do theirs. If you don't want to stay at Walmart, then don't. If you do and it works for you, great. Who cares?

RE: Good Sam GPS

Unless they upgraded the processors from the previous RVND 5510 and 7710 I would stay away from it. That's all they are is the same RVND models with GS campgrounds on it. The previous ones had every campground in it anyway so I am not sure what the GS partnership is all about. I have an RVND 5510 and the thing freezes up constantly. Tells me I will be on a dirt road in a half a mile even if I am on the interstate, and the customer service for Rand McNally is obviously overseas. In India I think and they don't speak good English. I have had mine replaced twice, and it still freezes up in the most convenient locations like on the DC beltway. The solution by customer service is to download repair files which takes hours. And not real convenient while travelling. And touch screen response time is very slow. Like 10 second between the time I touch the screen and it reacts. Again not helpful in traffic. It has some great features, lots of POIs and is fantastic when it works. And that's the problem, a lot of times it stops working. It's not reliable. Again, if they upgraded the processor over last years RVND models, maybe you'll be ok. Otherwise look elsewhere. I will never buy another Rand McNally product again. Now I use the co pilot app on my I phone. Cheap and easy. I may never buy another gps.

RE: GPS

Do NOT get an RVND 5510. I wasted my money on one of those. While it has a lot of POI's, tons of info, RV Specific, and overall great when it works. That's the problem, it freezes up constantly, continues to tell me I will be on a dirt road in .6 miles even on a highway, and their customer service barely speaks English. Their solution to the problem is to always do a file repair. I have never had a GPS where the processor is so unstable it requires repeated file repairs. Especially handy when it freezes up and you are on the DC beltway. And finally it's heavy. Downright brick. Still keeps it from being too light for a boat anchor. Expensive paperweight. Now I use CoPilot app on my Iphone. Works great. The co pilot app is only about $10.00 if you download the maps. I'll never buy a gps again.
